Chapter 997 - Chapter 768: Dark Forest

Until Newt revealed his purpose... to bring someone to solve the werewolf problem.

Before he could finish, Sirius was the first to jump out, wanting to join, but his request was tactfully declined by Newt.

It was truly very tactful. As a socially anxious person, Newt rarely had the experience of refusing someone, so he could only awkwardly say it wasn't suitable.

Initially, Sirius was naturally unconvinced. He believed his Animagus form could definitely be of use and that he was the most suitable candidate present.

Fortunately, everyone else understood and went forward to persuade Sirius, saying he should now stay at St Mungo's to take care of Lupin.

Anyone with a little sense knew whom Newt wanted to find... after all, apart from Kael, nobody in the Order of the Phoenix was familiar with Newt, and no one had even seen him before.

And in fact, that was true. Newt was indeed there to find Kael.

In his words, when Chris graduated, he began running around to resolve the werewolf threat. Now that Kael had also graduated, this task naturally fell to him.

In a sense, this counted as a family legacy.

So Kael followed Newt to the Dark Forest, searching for werewolves.

I have to admit, the process was really boring.

"Should we keep looking?"

Kael looked around, "What if we make some noise to attract the werewolves? I have cows and sheep in my case, which the werewolves might like. As long as we keep watch nearby..."

"Cows have never appeared in the Dark Forest, Kael."

Newt shook his head, "Werewolves are essentially wizards. They wouldn't be foolish enough not to discern such a basic trap."

"Then how about rabbits?" Kael continued, "Before graduating, I specially got various animals from the Forbidden Forest, including rabbits."

"The rabbits here and in the Forbidden Forest are completely different species."

Newt kept shaking his head. "Kael, you need to be more patient. Because of their living environment and instincts, werewolves are more alert than ordinary wizards. If they detect any abnormality, all our previous efforts will be in vain, so we must not be anxious.

"Your father was much stronger in this regard. When we were looking for a group of vampires who had allied with You-Know-Who in the Cumberland Mountains, we stayed for a full three months, during which he remained patient."

"Alright, alright, I get it." Kael sighed softly. "I don't like it here, not one bit."

The Dark Forest was too dense. Looking down from above, you could only see leaves, and nothing else.

Otherwise, he could completely ride Nord to fly up. With a fire dragon's speed, they could probably find the werewolves in a day.

But now, this method was definitely not feasible.

Kael sighed again, trying to calm himself as he continued to follow Newt forward.

...

A few more days passed.

As Newt had said, this was a work requiring patience. Apart from some other bones, they found nothing, not even a strand of wolf fur.

Kael even began to doubt if Newt's information was faulty, feeling the urge to speak up several times but holding back in the end.

Meanwhile, Newt also noticed the changes in Kael's mood but said nothing.

Kael had few flaws, but a lack of patience was certainly one of them.

It's not that Kael was irritable; quite the contrary, he could be quite patient with certain things, like guiding Fudge to believe that Voldemort was making a comeback.

Regardless of whether Fudge truly believed it or for some other reason, the Ministry of Magic indeed issued a notice before Voldemort grew stronger, allowing everyone to prepare in advance.

The "lack of patience" according to Newt referred to matters outside of concrete actions, like the current situation of searching for an enemy's trace.

Perhaps due to different experiences, or maybe from learning bad habits from Dumbledore, Kael preferred facing his opponents directly.

He was willing to spend time on planning strategies against enemies rather than aimlessly searching for a target.

But in real wars, not all enemies stand foolishly in place; more often, they hide in the shadows like werewolves, only surfacing to create havoc at crucial moments.

This is what troubled Aurors and the Order of the Phoenix the most, so finding them was also a very important task.

The main reason Newt brought Kael out this time was to take this chance to train him in this area where he was lacking.

It was for this reason that Newt was not in a hurry at all, as there was still time before the next full moon, and they could take their time searching.

The two searched the vast Dark Forest from day to night and from night to day. The sunlight pierced through the gaps between leaves, casting bright beams into the forest, making it appear mysterious and beautiful.

Unfortunately, no one appreciated this scene. The increasingly restless Kael and the calm Newt formed a sharp contrast. Kael habitually kicked some fallen leaves and was about to say something when a small creature, like a mantis, suddenly leaped from a nearby tree onto his shoulder.

It was a Bowtruckle.

The Dark Forest, like the Forbidden Forest at Hogwarts, was often frequented by magical creatures, so it wasn't surprising to see a Bowtruckle.
