The little creature leaned towards Kael's ear, its mouth opening and closing as if it were saying something. But its voice was so faint that Newt couldn't hear anything, so he instinctively turned his gaze to Kael.
Kael appeared stunned at first, before his expression turned serious.
"In a cave, footprints... wizard... the firelight at night... are you sure?"
The Bowtruckle said something again, and suddenly Kael became excited.
"Where is it! Take me there quickly!"
He then looked at Newt.
"We've found the werewolf, hurry and follow."
After speaking, the Bowtruckle bounced on its short legs to a tree on their left, and Kael hurried to follow.
To be honest, Newt was still a bit bewildered.
It wasn't hard to deduce from Kael's words earlier that the werewolf's hiding place seemed to have been found.
But can a Bowtruckle really be used like this? Newt felt a bit surreal, and he followed, half doubting and half believing.
They weaved through the thickets, encountering more Bowtruckles along the way, like little creatures deliberately waiting, and upon seeing Kael, they all followed.
The Dark Forest was vast, and by the time they finally stopped, half a day had passed.
Even from afar, Kael could smell a strange odor, like something was burnt.
In front of them was a well-hidden cave, not only was the mountain covered in lush trees, but the entrance was also overgrown with vines, making it hard to notice even if one were passing by.
Newt quietly moved next to Kael, taking just one glance, he could be one hundred percent sure there were traces of human habitation here.
As for whether it's the werewolf... Newt thought that except for them, no one would be bored enough to camp in such a place.
"How did you do it?" He instinctively looked at Kael, asking in disbelief.
"Through the Bowtruckle," Kael whispered, "this is their territory."
"I mean, when did you find so many Bowtruckles?" Newt turned to look behind him.
On a particular branch, there were at least a hundred Bowtruckles, from afar it looked like the branch was covered with a patch of moss, as they had all followed along the way.
Newt considered himself quite vigilant, a light sleeper, and thought it impossible for Kael to have developed so many informants behind his back.
"Oh, it was just a few days ago while I was on night watch," Kael said casually, "I was bored, so I thought about finding more helpers to track the werewolf."
"You found all these back then?" Newt asked, pointing at the row of Bowtruckles on the branch behind him.
"What?" Kael instinctively turned to look and was startled.
"No," he shook his head repeatedly, "at the time only one appeared before me, it seemed bold and unafraid of strangers, so I talked to it a bit more... as for why there are so many now."
Kael paused before continuing, "maybe it went and found others to help."
In truth, not only Newt, but even Kael found it somewhat unbelievable. Back then, he just offhandedly said something, not expecting that Bowtruckle to actually help him find the werewolf's trail, especially in such a distant place.
But Newt clearly didn't think the same way.
He gazed at Kael, suddenly clicking his tongue, "Sometimes, I really envy your kind of magical talent."
Having Bowtruckles help was tantamount to expanding their team from two to hundreds, and more importantly, these informants were highly discreet.
Especially in the Dark Forest, who would suspect an ordinary Bowtruckle? Even Newt himself wouldn't have doubted it.
It was utterly reasonable for such Fantastic Beasts to appear in the forest, not seeing them would be strange.
However, this method was only applicable for Kael, who could freely communicate with Fantastic Beasts; others, including himself, could not understand these little creatures.
He could only roughly guess their intent based on the Bowruckle's actions.
Involuntarily, Newt thought of Chris.
If Chris had sought help from Bowtruckles the way Kael did, when they were searching for the vampire in the Cumberland Mountains over a decade ago, they wouldn't have needed to stay there for months.
Having such a convenient ability but not using it, Chris really was an inflexible fool.
How did he end up taking such a foolish student back then?
