The battle started very suddenly, but ended just as quickly.
Newt hadn't even had a chance to do anything after pulling out his wand when the werewolf wizards on the scene lost all ability to resist.
Once the surroundings returned to peace, the forest became more lush, leaving hardly any clearing to step on, forcing Kael and Newt to stand precariously on thick tree roots.
A large number of twisted tree roots and trunks were tightly wrapped around the bodies of the werewolf wizards, making them look from a distance like tasteless fruits hanging on the trees.
"It's truly incredible." Newt looked up at the trees, which had swollen five or six times their original size, "Is this the charm you learned from Ravenclaw?"
"Sort of." Kael replied, "The Plant Enlargement Spell was initially invented by Helga Hufflepuff to fortify Hogwarts. She even used it to create the Forbidden Forest... though back then, it wasn't as vast as it is now, only considered a prototype."
"It's truly magical." Newt patted a section of the root beside him.
Normally, although the Engorgement Charm can make plants grow larger, it also disperses the original vitality, like a balloon, the bigger it gets, the thinner the surface becomes, without any change in weight.
Unlike the Engorgement Charm Newt was familiar with, these roots seemed full of vitality to him, brimming with life as if they had grown naturally.
But can ordinary pine trees grow this large? Like a wagon wheel — after all, Newt had never seen such a thing.
"Actually, this charm works best when paired with Devil's Snare," Kael said.
"Devil's Snare?" Newt asked in confusion, "What's different about it?"
"Of course," Kael said, "With Devil's Snare, its vines would actively entangle the surrounding creatures while enlarging, saving me the effort of directing them, making it much easier."
Kael stretched out his hand holding the wand, "Honestly, wanting these fifty-foot-tall trees to become supple is quite a bit of work."
Newt could clearly see Kael's arm trembling slightly, with a fine sheen of sweat forming on his forehead.
"Then why do you have to use this method?" Newt was even more perplexed, "It shouldn't be that difficult to deal with these werewolf wizards, right?"
"But this is the coolest way," Kael blurted out, with a hint of excitement in his tone, "I've wanted to try this for a long time, only I hadn't found the opportunity."
"Alright, then." Newt shook his head with a smile.
Truth be told, when the forest 'came to life,' it was indeed very cool, and if it had been fifty years ago, he probably couldn't have resisted learning it.
This spell is simply perfect for use in the forest; it doesn't damage trees or the environment like other spells. Instead, it enhances vitality — what could be better?
And back when he was young, the place he visited most was the forest.
Unfortunately, he rarely travels now, partly due to age and also because the Ministry of Magic Transportation Department in other countries has become increasingly sophisticated, with more magical items scrutinized for Apparition and Portkeys, making it harder for him to sneak in.
"Alright, we should also get down to business." Newt sighed and approached a bound werewolf wizard, "How are they? Are they dead?"
"No... well, I think not," Kael said, but his tone wasn't very certain.
"At first, I could control it, but later, as their numbers increased, I couldn't manage, just barely preventing them from attacking our own."
Ever since visiting the Department of Mysteries, Kael had been careful to avoid incurring a blood debt by killing wizards.
But in a fight with Death Eaters, being restrained puts one at a disadvantage, so usually, he lets the fantastic beasts in his case lend a hand.
Including when he used the Fiendfyre Curse on the tower last time — it was the Nundu that took the initiative to finish off the Death Eater, sparing his life beforehand.
This time was no different.
While the two were talking, a cat-like sound suddenly came from a nearby tree, only lower pitched.
The Wampus Cat first rubbed its paws against the gigantic tree branch, then leapt down gracefully, nudging Newt's palm with its head.
"Ah, it's you." Newt happily stroked its big head, "How have you been lately, happy?"
The Wampus Cat's blue eyes looked at Kael, nodding vigorously.
In fact, Newt already knew the answer well; the Wampus Cat isn't an animal that enjoys quiet — compared to the mundane life inside his case, it surely prefers frolicking outside with Kael.
The Wampus Cat nudged Newt again, then jumped next to Kael, and meowed softly.
"Six in total... you preemptively dealt with them, huh... impressive..."
Kael said with a smile, taking out a piece of bone-in meat from his case and stuffing it into the Wampus Cat's mouth.
"Make do for now, and I'll roast a pork leg for you later when we go out."
The Wampus Cat's blue eyes brightened even further, taking the meat and jumping aside.
"Kael, what are you talking about?" Newt asked, completely puzzled, "Six what, preemptive dealing, what do you mean?"
"Ah, the Wampus Cat handled six werewolf wizards ahead of time." Kael explained. "This way, I wasn't the one who killed them."
Afterwards, Kael briefly explained about the blood debt.
After hearing his explanation, Newt was utterly stunned, standing there speechless for a long time.
Good gracious, letting fantastic beasts take the final blow — only Kael could come up with such a bewildering maneuver, and certainly, only he could execute it.
