Chapter 832 - Chapter 787: Trials of the Hero

Speaking of Green Arrow, his official positioning is someone who has suffered, much more than even Batman.

Every superhero comic has a subtitle, like Batman's is 'The Best Legend, The Worst Crime', and Suicide Squad's has been 'They Don't Exist, But They're Creative'.

Green Arrow's comic subtitle states directly—'Hero of Ordeals'.

He has suffered too much; he entrusted his company to a good friend, only to find out that the friend was a member of the underground organization 'Nine Rings Association', siphoning money to help his enemies.

If he meets a beautiful woman, she's likely a villain, ready to stab him at a critical moment.

The people he trusts will either betray him or leave, even his sidekick 'Arsenal' ended up falling out with him completely.

His father died tragically, his mother died tragically, and his ex-girlfriend also died tragically. Those close to him rarely survive. He doesn't have an all-powerful butler, and he's not as suspicious as Batman, yet his luck is obviously worse.

If anything involves him, it often doesn't go smoothly, and sometimes it even seems inexplicably absurd.

Last night, after the flood receded, he brought the rescued people back to Star City.

Perhaps it was the relief after a disaster, or something else, his ex-wife Black Canary enthusiastically dragged him home, cooked a meal for the two of them, and then they spent a passionate night together.

He thought he could return to the peaceful days of the past, but a few hours later, Dina, seemingly satisfied, got out of bed, slapped him, shot him a glare, and left.

Since then, Oliver has been deep in thought, perplexed by what that woman is thinking.

Several hours passed, and he just quietly leaned against the headboard, the sheets covering his lower body, his eyes staring blankly at the darkened ceiling.

Is it the city that's wrong? Does Dina prefer Seattle? Or is it because he's made another mistake?

When Su Ming and the others landed on his bedroom balcony, looking through the curtains, they saw this scene.

Oliver sat gloomily at the headboard, with sorrowful piano music playing in the room; he held a bottle of wine, pouring it into his mouth with eyes closed.

It's a different kind of darkness from Batman; here, the prevailing atmosphere is depression after helplessness. It's the kind of pain where you want to scream in the cold rain but can't make a sound, want to cry but have no tears.

Su Ming and Bo Bo exchanged a glance; the gorilla gave a sympathetic expression, and Green Arrow hadn't noticed the three of them yet, partly because the security facilities were damaged by the flood, reducing his vigilance.

If he asked the question aloud, Su Ming could provide an answer. Dina's mood swings might be linked to Barbara rewriting Earth and then rewriting it back.

As for the specific effects, it needs to be analyzed on a case-by-case basis.

The marble balcony had some seaweed and small fish beneath their feet, originally much of the sunken trash had surfaced again, making the planter below patchy.

Star City, originally called Plymouth, is located in the southeastern United States, Massachusetts, known for its continuous hills and coastal erosion, considered a relatively green area.

During the Earth Sinking event, most humans on Earth turned into Fish-Men, but after the Alien Sea God defected, they naturally turned back.

Other than the Fish-Men who were killed, civilian casualties were limited, far less than the deaths from the Metal Event.

Star City residents were no exception; having turned back, they could only go home to tidy up and take inventory before going to the insurance company for a collective claim the next day.

Yet now, those people had just endured the nightmare of becoming fish and were pursued by monsters only seen in nightmares, truly miserable enough.

Diana didn't notice the interaction between Su Ming and Little Fortune Ape; she boldly opened the balcony door and strode into the bedroom.

Oliver's immediate reaction was to roll off the bed, using it as cover, he discarded the wine bottle and picked up the bow and arrows on the ground before realizing it was Diana who entered.

He closed his eyes and sighed deeply, dropping the weapon and wrapping himself in the bedsheet, standing like a Greek statue.

Diana raised an eyebrow, pointing and laughing at the sheet: "Nice outfit."

Oliver grabbed the sheet with one hand, wiping his face and head with the other: "I thought you'd say good evening and knock normally, entering through the front door."

"With monsters busy massacring in Star City, what are you doing?" Diana sniffed, detecting the smell of passion, shaking her head in disappointment: "Busy in bed with a woman?"

Oliver grabbed his uniform and quietly shuffled under the sheets to at least put on pants first.

"When did that happen? I've lost all surveillance in the city; the underground base hasn't finished draining yet."

Bo Bo walked over, finding fishnet stockings on the floor, then golden hair on the sheets, his eyes turned sharp.

"Tsk tsk, Oliver, you've fallen so low, letting a prostitute dress up like Dina."

Oliver grumpily glared at him: "I thought you'd say good evening too… that wasn't some hired dancer; it was really Dina. Let's talk business, where are the monsters now in the city?"

His movements were swift, now fully equipped, and he had his quiver slung over his shoulder.

"Good evening." Su Ming walked into the bedroom from the balcony, revealing his figure from behind the curtain, his red goggles shining brightly in the darkness.

Oliver immediately raised the weapon in his hand, bow bent and arrow nocked: "The words are right, but the person isn't; you shouldn't be here."

Diana stepped forward and lowered his bow, gesturing for Oliver to calm down: "This isn't the same Deathstroke as before, he's from another Earth."

Oliver was still skeptical, so Su Ming simply removed his face armor for him to see, and that youthful face relaxed him a bit.

Diana looked around; many pieces of furniture bore traces of water damage, and only the bedding was newly replaced, but she had no intention of sitting down due to the strange smell emanating from them.

"We've temporarily solved the monster issue for you, but the problem isn't over. Laughing Bat and Luthor are both on the move, our team needs you to join."

Oliver put away his arrows and walked to the bedside to pick up a bottle of wine, swirling the liquid inside: "Why you? Not Batman?"

Bo Bo jumped onto the bed and walked around, leaving a trail of black footprints on the sheets: "Because it's not the Justice League issuing the summons."

"Uh... is it the Dark Justice League?" Oliver stroked his beard, crossing his arms, questioning. He didn't think he had the qualifications to join the Dark Justice League.

After all, dealing with magic requires either being a powerful warlock or possessing strong anti-magic power, neither of which he has. Bo Bo, with his vast connections and knowledge of the Magic Realm, can do it.

However, Oliver knew that he was purely a martial artist; he wasn't even as proficient in technology as Batman.

Bo Bo scratched his head and looked at Su Ming, who was examining a shattered vase by the wall: "Speaking of which, our team doesn't even have a name. Is it too late to name it now?"

"Let's leave it at that, names aren't important to me." Su Ming tossed away the broken porcelain and approached Diana and the others: "Oliver, I won't introduce myself. You should have intelligence on me. The key issue has just been stated by Diana. Are you in or not?"

"But... with Batman around, what can I do?" Oliver sat at the edge of the bed, looking out into the dark night, the wind lifting the white curtains, which Dina once bought.

Su Ming sat beside him, placing a hand on Oliver's shoulder: "I have two suggestions for you that can bring you back to the pinnacle of your life."

Oliver looked at him, the black-and-yellow armor always grabbing one's attention. He really hadn't expected Deathstroke to mix with Wonder Woman, let alone bringing along Detective Gorilla.

It's obvious among the three that Deathstroke was in charge; even Diana, usually assertive, was letting Deathstroke handle communications at this moment.

"What suggestions?"

"These suggestions aren't free; I'm offering them at 5 million USD, including the project to bring you back to the core of the Justice League and gain voting rights."

Su Ming took out two cigarettes, putting one in his mouth and handing the other to Bo Bo, whereas Green Arrow didn't smoke due to the fear of jittery hands.

Diana secretly glared at Su Ming; this was not what had been agreed upon before. The Justice League exists to protect the world, how can obligations be turned into transactions?

Upon hearing Deathstroke mention money, Oliver finally felt familiar; if it was free help, he would have to worry about some conspiracy.

"Sure, just 5 million," Oliver displayed a financially robust demeanor, as if he had tipped a server five bucks while dining out.

Su Ming gestured to Diana, who reluctantly shook her head and turned away.

He then put on a commercial smile, shook hands with Oliver, and took out the prepared contract, handing it to Oliver for signing.

As the beautiful italic signature was penned, Su Ming happily shared his plan, while packing the contract into his backpack, patting Oliver's shoulder.

"Your greatest issue now is not having a platform to showcase your abilities. You've been excluded from several major Earth crises by Batman, so no one really cares about your opinions."

Green Arrow nodded slightly, indeed it was so; after Steel Bone and Hawk Woman joined the Justice League, his position gradually became marginalized, and with Ron returning from retirement, he found himself simply excluded.

He had tried seeking out Batman at the Hall of Justice but always got the same response, to return to Midtown on standby, just protecting the city.

Oliver wanted to discern any perfunctory or disdainful emotions from Batman's face, yet when Batman spoke of this matter, he was always calm, as calm as discussing what to have for dinner.

Green Arrow didn't understand what Batman was thinking, but he knew there wasn't a place for him among the Seven Giants.

His abilities had an exceedingly high overlap with the current Justice League brain, Batman, and his principles about killing clashed with Justice League regulations. Wonder Woman and Arthur could kill because Batman needed them to unite Paradise Island and Atlantis.

As for Oliver? Besides Queen Industries, he had nothing.

Not long ago, Queen Industries was nearly hollowed out by the Nine Rings Association, he personally killed his friend, ending decades of friendship with an arrow.

This pain is unimaginable to others; even Batman hasn't killed his friends, whereas for Green Arrow, he's nearly finished off his friends.
