Chapter 76 - Chapter 76: Mímisbrunnr

The final chamber of the ruins opened before me like a secret preserved by time itself. The air inside was heavy, almost alive, thick with magic that pulsed like a heartbeat. The door had been the final test, and its requirements were grim. I raised my hand and let a small incision form across my forearm, blood spilling freely into the intricate rune carved into the threshold. Pain lanced through me, sharp and electric, but I ignored it, focusing instead on the slow pull of the magic that demanded this offering.

By the time the door swung open, I felt lightheaded, my vision swimming from the loss of blood. Soul hovered near, her golden feathers rippling, her eyes locked on me with a mixture of concern and quiet approval. I steadied myself, closing the door behind me, and stepped into the chamber.

A crystal-clear pool of water lay before me, reflecting the dim, otherworldly light of the chamber. Floating at its center was an eye, suspended in the water, eerily alive. Around the pool, ancient tomes rested on pedestals of stone, their pages yellowed but filled with meticulously written runes and diagrams. I recognized the signature scrawl almost immediately: Odin. The name sent a shiver through me—legendary, mythic, yet undeniably real in these writings.

So this is Mímisbrunnr, I thought, recalling the stories of the Well of Mimir. If Odin existed as a wizard, then he must have used this place to augment his mind, his perception, his wisdom…

I extended a hand, summoning the floating eye toward me. It shimmered as it rose, and I carefully stored it in a specialized solution that would preserve its magic without corrupting it. Then my attention turned to the pool itself. The water shimmered with layers of magical energy, ancient and pure. I hesitated only a moment before scooping a small amount into a vial, feeling the surge of magic pulse through my fingertips.

Curiosity—and ambition—pushed me further. I had studied this well, analyzed its magic, and planned this move for weeks. With a deep breath, I plucked out my left eye, holding it delicately between my fingers before dropping it into the shimmering water. The moment it touched the surface, it glowed brilliantly, and then the water surged with binding energy. I was unable to retrieve it—but I didn't recoil.

Pain and power collided in my mind as knowledge poured in like a storm. Rune scripts, languages I had never seen before, intricate diagrams of magic systems, spells, and histories—all inscribed directly into my consciousness. Wisdom unlike any I had ever known filled my mind, sharp and crystalline. I felt Mímisbrunnr's magic weaving into my neural pathways, enhancing my intelligence, my foresight, my perception of both magic and the world around me.

I staggered back, breathing heavily, my phoenix Soul circling me anxiously. "This… is incredible," I whispered, my mind buzzing with new clarity, new possibilities. Every thought felt deeper, more precise, more connected. A language of runes burned in my mind, elegant and structured, waiting for me to decipher it fully.

After several moments of letting the water's magic settle within me, I took samples for study, carefully collecting vials of the shimmering liquid. Soul chirped softly, her wings stirring the air as she prepared for teleportation. "Back to Hogwarts?" she asked telepathically.

"Yes," I murmured. "We have work to do."

With a blink of golden fire, we disappeared from the ruins and reappeared in my lab. I set the vials on the table, already thinking about the experiments I would run. My mind, sharper than ever, was already unraveling the mysteries of the well, planning spells, potions, and enchantments that had previously seemed impossible.

Mímisbrunnr had given me its wisdom, and I intended to use every drop of it.

Soul perched gracefully on my shoulder, her eyes gleaming. "Do you feel it?" she asked.

I closed my one remaining eye, letting the surge of knowledge fill my senses. "Yes," I said quietly, a grin spreading across my face. "I feel like I can see the world in ways no wizard has before."

And with that, the work began—an entirely new chapter in my pursuit of mastery, power, and knowledge.
