Chapter 136: Fish-Type + PK vs. Cyber Dragon (Part 2)
"I see. So it has a powerful disruption effect?" Sugihara Yo gritted his teeth.
"Then, the effect of Right-Hand Shark in the Graveyard activates! If this card is in the Graveyard and I control no monsters, I can Special Summon this card. If this card, Special Summoned by this effect, leaves the field, it is banished."
"Revive! Right-Hand Shark!"
"Next, since I control a WATER monster, this card can be Special Summoned from my hand."
"Appear! Silent Angler!"
"I overlay my two Level 4 monsters!"
Sugihara Yo extended his right hand, and a deep blue vortex formed before him. At its center, the red number 37 glowed, echoing the same number on the back of his hand.
"When the sleeping earth and oceans awaken, new hope is born! Xyz Summon! Rank 4! Descend! Number 37: Hope Woven Dragon Spider Shark!"
As Sugihara Yo's words fell, a shark with eight spider-leg-like fins leaped from the vortex, baring its sharp fangs.
Number 37: Hope Woven Dragon Spider Shark ATK: 2600
"A Number monster? Is this the power you used to repel Aster Phoenix?" Ryo Marufuji said, looking at the monster before him, whose aura was no less imposing than his own Cyber Dragon Infinity.
"Battle!" Sugihara Yo declared, entering the Battle Phase. The Spider Shark before him twitched its eight slender, spider-like legs, eager for a fight.
"Hope Woven Dragon Spider Shark attacks Cyber Dragon Infinity."
As Sugihara Yo spoke, the Spider Shark leaped in front of Cyber Dragon Infinity and opened its enormous mouth, its coldly gleaming fangs aimed at the bizarre creature.
"At this moment, the effect of Number 37: Hope Woven Dragon Spider Shark activates! When a monster, either yours or your opponent's, declares an attack, I can detach one Overlay Material from this card to have all of my opponent's monsters lose 1000 ATK until the end of the turn."
Spider Shark spat a mouthful of venom from its fangs toward Cyber Dragon Infinity. Under the venom's effect, the mechanical dragon let out a weak roar as its imposing aura diminished significantly.

Chimeratech Rampage Dragon ATK: 2100 → 1100
"Then, I activate my Trap Card, Cybernetic Overflow! I banish any number of 'Cyber Dragon' from my hand, Graveyard, and my side of the field, then destroy an equal number of cards on my opponent's field."
"I'll banish Cyber Dragon Vier from my Graveyard to destroy your monster."
From the face-down card Ryo Marufuji flipped over in his backrow, furious lightning swept over the wide-mouthed Spider Shark. The attacking creature's body instantly exploded into fragments.
"As expected, you still have follow-up moves," Sugihara Yo sneered. "But you're not the only one with more plays!"
As Sugihara Yo spoke, a deep blue vortex slowly formed from the shattered fragments of his Spider Shark.
"When Hope Woven Dragon Spider Shark is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to the Graveyard, I can target one other monster in my Graveyard and Special Summon it."
"Revive! Bahamut Shark!"
The dragon-headed merman emerged from the vortex once more, letting out a high-pitched draconic roar.
Bahamut Shark ATK: 2600
"Go! Bahamut Shark, attack Cyber Dragon Infinity!"
Bahamut Shark spread its draconic wings and swung a fatal claw toward Cyber Dragon Infinity.
Seeing this, Ryo Marufuji flipped over his last face-down card. "I activate the Trap Card, Attack Invulnerability! I target one monster on the field; that monster cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects during this Battle Phase."
A golden shield appeared before Cyber Dragon Infinity, blocking Bahamut Shark's strike.
"But you still take the battle damage!"
Ryo Marufuji LP: 8000 → 6900
"Battle Phase ends. I activate the Spell Card, Overlay Reborn!"
"I target one Xyz Monster on the field and attach this card to it as an Overlay Material."
The Spell Card in Sugihara Yo's hand transformed into a small, aquamarine orb and flew to Bahamut Shark's side.
"I activate Bahamut Shark's effect! Once per turn, by detaching one Overlay Material from this card, I can Special Summon one Rank 3 or lower WATER Xyz Monster from the Extra Deck."
The blue orb circling Bahamut Shark fell to the side, dissolving into a small puff of mist.
"Appear! Rank 2! Toadally Awesome!"
"Ribbit!" With a pleasant croak, a small, milky-white frog leaped from the vortex, landing beside Bahamut Shark.
Toadally Awesome ATK: 2200
"I set two cards and end my turn. At this moment, your monsters' ATK return to their original values." Sugihara Yo ended his turn.
Cyber Dragon Infinity ATK: 1500 → 2500
Chimeratech Rampage Dragon ATK: 1100 → 2100
"My turn! I draw!" Ryo Marufuji drew a card.
"I activate Cyber Dragon Infinity's effect! Once per turn, I can target one face-up Attack Position monster on the field and attach it to this card as an Overlay Material."
Dark red lightning coiled from Cyber Dragon Infinity's mechanical wings, snaking toward the little white frog.
"I activate Toadally Awesome's effect! Once per turn, when the opponent activates a monster's effect or a Spell/Trap Card, I can send one Aqua monster from my hand or field to the Graveyard to negate the activation and destroy it. Then, I can set the destroyed card on my field."
"I'll send Toadally Awesome itself to the Graveyard to activate its effect!"
A vortex appeared in front of the milky-white frog.
"It's useless!" Ryo Marufuji said. "I activate Cyber Dragon Infinity's effect! Once per turn, when a card's effect is activated, I can detach one Overlay Material from this card to negate and destroy its activation."
Dark red lightning shot out from between Cyber Dragon Infinity's wings, blasting toward the blue vortex.
"I've been waiting for this!" Sugihara Yo roared. "I flip my face-down card! The Counter Trap, Divine Wrath!"
"By discarding one card from my hand, I can negate the activation of an Effect Monster's effect and destroy it."
The chain of four links was ultimately resolved in favor of Sugihara Yo's superior Spell Speed 3 Counter Trap. The chain resolved. Ultimately, Cyber Dragon Infinity, now without any Overlay Materials, was Set on Sugihara Yo and Yuto's field.
"I see, so you were prepared all along?" Losing his monster didn't seem to annoy Ryo Marufuji. Instead, he smiled at Sugihara Yo. "Very good. As the opponent for my first battle, you've proven yourself worthy!"
"But can you withstand my next assault?"
"I summon Cyber Dragon Core in Attack Position!"
"When Cyber Dragon Core is Normal Summoned, I can add one 'Cyber' or 'Cybernetic' Spell or Trap Card from my deck to my hand."
"I'll add the Spell Card, Cyber Repair Plant, to my hand and activate it!"
"If 'Cyber Dragon' is in my Graveyard, I can either add one LIGHT Machine monster from my Deck to my hand, or target one LIGHT Machine monster in my Graveyard and return it to the Deck. However, if there are three or more 'Cyber Dragon' in my Graveyard when this card is activated, I can use both effects."
"I'll return a Cyber Dragon from my Graveyard to the Deck, and add Cyber Dragon Nachster from my Deck to my hand."
