Fainting would have been a mercy, but he had already collapsed.
The Super Soldier Serum experiment had been agonizing, but compared to this, it was insignificant.
The brain, the most mysterious, powerful, and fragile organ, made modification exceptionally dangerous.
A single mistake could plunge someone into an endless abyss.
And Steve had fallen victim.
The Gamma Rays, like ruthless invaders, ravaged his mind, forcing an unreasonable and barbaric transformation.
His mental power surged uncontrollably, leaving him disoriented.
His memories twisted into a tangled knot, impossible to untangle.
After about ten minutes, if Stryker and Bolivar hadn't still been able to monitor Steve's breathing, they would have assumed the experiment had failed.
"Hey, teacher, this guy's endurance… it's beyond what ordinary humans can handle. Will this experiment even succeed?" Bolivar asked nervously.
"I don't think many people have Steve's willpower. Enduring this without breaking… it's nearly impossible," Stryker replied, shaking his head.
They had been watching every agonizing moment through the monitors.
This was no ordinary experiment. Completing a journey of thousands of years in half an hour was sheer fantasy.
"Maybe… maybe. I don't know how many can reach his level. It's too difficult," Bolivar muttered.
"How about we find people like Steve, with family feuds or national grudges? Their willpower makes them fight to the death," Stryker suggested.
Bolivar nodded thoughtfully. "Hmm… I'll listen to you, teacher."
Even a comatose person would probably wake from the pain of this experiment.
"Hehe, just wait. This will produce a ruthless being, like the Hulk. Even if the odds are one in ten thousand, it's worth it," Bolivar said, eyes blazing as he stared at the unconscious Steve. Their masterpiece of madness.
With the Super Soldier Serum and their tech, once Steve transformed, mass production could begin.
Of course, nano-bombs were implanted in his brain—obedience was mandatory. If not, they would detonate him instantly.
Suddenly, the scene changed drastically.
Steve roared, transforming into the Red Giant, smashing the Gamma Ray device and leaping free.
Roar!!
He bellowed like the Hulk, leaving Stryker and Bolivar stunned.
"Fuck! What the hell?"
This wasn't supposed to happen! He was supposed to be a controllable test subject, injected with the Super Soldier Serum—far more potent than the version used on Abomination.
Abomination retained sanity, so why hadn't he?
Had becoming stronger burned out his brain—like the Hulk?
They had no answers. Was this a failure—or a success?
Red Giant Steve didn't care. His memory was a mess. Nearly everything was gone except one thought:
Find Peggy! Complete their unfinished date!
"Peggy! Peggy! Wait for me! Wait for me!"
"I'm coming… I've already eliminated HYDRA!" he muttered, focusing solely on his mission.
"Where's the door? Where's the door?"
Steve searched frantically, every obstacle enraging him.
"Why are you blocking my way? Why don't you just die?"
A red energy beam shot from his eyes.
Boom!
A reinforced concrete wall over a meter thick shattered instantly.
"Hiss!!"
"This…" Bolivar and Stryker were speechless, wide-eyed with terror. They hadn't expected Hulk-like energy beams.
This mutation was far beyond their calculations.
"Heh heh, that's right! Peggy! Wait for me!"
Steve clapped his massive hands in delight, a thousand-pound Red Giant now.
Bolivar and Stryker could do nothing. Who could oppose a man capable of firing lasers at the slightest obstacle?
Meanwhile, the city celebrated New Year's Day 2009.
But the festivities quickly turned to panic as a booming sound tore through the streets.
Something monumental was happening—not far away.
