After seeing off the refugees, Luffy returned to the shore and saw Aokiji sitting there, scratching his head.
"What's wrong?" Luffy asked.
Aokiji replied, "How should I put this… you really are like your grandpa, Monkey D. Garp. Should I say you're unrestrained, or just completely incomprehensible?"
The moment Garp was mentioned, Luffy froze.
Ever since he was young, his grandpa had been dead set against him becoming a pirate—yet here he was, a pirate captain. Luffy really couldn't face him.
Just as Luffy was sweating nervously, Aokiji continued, "In the past, your grandpa looked out for me a lot. I came to see you and Nico Robin… and also…"
Aokiji's expression hardened.
"I think it's best if you all die here today. The Government doesn't pay much attention to you yet, but considering your backgrounds, you're already a problem.
Especially you, Storm D. Sandy. In less than a year, your growth is unbelievable. At this rate, your crew will be extremely troublesome in the future."
Usopp paled. "H-How can you say that? Didn't you say you were just taking a walk?!"
Sandy remained silent, watching how things developed.
Aokiji went on, "The one who makes you truly dangerous… is you, Nico Robin."
Luffy immediately stood up, furious. "You bastard, you're still after Robin! I'm gonna beat you up!"
Ignoring him, Aokiji kept speaking to Robin.
"The bounty isn't just about strength. It represents how much of a threat someone is to the Government.
At eight years old, you were already wanted for 79 million Belly. A child, yet you survived.
Betrayal, running, using others to live… you crawled through the underworld to survive. And now, is this pirate crew the hiding place you chose?"
Sanji snapped, "Hey! Don't talk like that. What grudge do you have against Robin?"
Usopp panicked. "Sanji, stop!!"
"No grudge," Aokiji said calmly. "But if we're talking about connections… I let her go once before. That's all."
Sandy clicked his tongue. So she should thank you? Thank you for not killing her?
The logic of this world was seriously twisted.
Aokiji continued, "Soon, you'll regret your choice. Every group associated with Nico Robin has been destroyed—yet she alone always survives. Why is that, Nico Robin?"
"Shut up!" Luffy yelled. "That has nothing to do with the past!"
"Yeah!" Usopp added. "If we're talking about the past, we have a Pirate Hunter and a thief here too!"
Sanji nodded. "The present matters more."
Chopper shouted, "Robin is our important nakama! Don't say mean things about her!"
Sandy exhaled. Words weren't going to solve anything. Their positions were different. Battles happen because reason isn't enough.
Meanwhile, Sandy was thinking about how to fight Aokiji. The man's moves were all huge. Mess up once and it was instant GG.
Aokiji sighed. "I see. Your bond is very strong."
"What exactly are you trying to say?" Robin asked angrily.
Her childhood, her traumas—Aokiji was tearing them open one by one.
She finally snapped.
"If you want to catch me, then do it. Cien Fleur: Bloom!"
Sandy felt his stomach drop. This was bad. The biggest taboo in a fight was being the one to strike first—especially against the Marines.
Dozens of hands grabbed Aokiji's joints.
Aokiji sighed. "Ara ara… I talked too much. What a pity. I thought you were smarter."
"Clutch!"
Robin crushed him into ice.
"He shattered! He's dead?!" Chopper screamed.
Impossible.
Immediately, Sandy felt the temperature drop sharply.
Shit. He's activated his Domain…
As a Logia user, Aokiji could disperse into cold air or ice, travel instantly through the frozen environment, and reform anywhere.
Without Observation Haki, fighting him was almost pointless.
Without absurd physical strength and Armament Haki, your only ending was getting frozen solid.
The shattered ice released white mist, and Aokiji slowly reassembled from the fragments.
It was terrifying to watch in person.
"No way!" Usopp trembled. "Everyone, RUN!!"
"That's too much," Aokiji muttered. He picked a blade of grass from the ground, blew on it, and a sharp ice blade formed instantly.
"Ice Saber."
"I don't intend to kill you," Aokiji said, "but still…"
He swung at Robin, but Zoro stepped in just in time.
Zoro's swords blocked the Ice Saber. Sanji leaped in with a kick.
"Meat Kick!"
He knocked the weapon away.
Luffy pressed one hand to the ground and one to his knee.
"Second Gear! Gum-Gum Rocket Launcher!!"
But Aokiji grabbed Zoro's arm and Sanji's leg—freezing both instantly.
Luffy's fist struck Aokiji's torso and froze on contact.
Aokiji's control was monstrous. Every move could take a life.
In an instant, the three main fighters of the Straw Hat Pirates—Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji—were defeated.
