Chapter 175 - Chapter 174: Departure

Usopp shouted, his emotions spiraling out of control.

"But this ship—this ship is the one we're on right now!"

"That's right," Luffy replied. "And this ship is about to sink."

Unexpectedly, Usopp calmed down for a moment and said, "What are you talking about, Luffy?"

"It's true," Luffy answered. "That's what they told me at the shipyard. They said the Going Merry can no longer sail to the next island."

"Is that so?" Usopp muttered. "It can't make it? You just met these people today, and because they told you that, you believed them? Just like that, you came back?"

Sandy spoke up, exasperated.

"Usopp, do you not even believe world-class shipwrights now?"

"Yeah," Usopp shot back. "Those are just shipwrights called 'first-class.' So just because they said it's no good, you blindly accept their judgment?

Are you really going to abandon this important companion who has sailed with us through storms, battles, life and death? Are you abandoning it here—letting it die?"

After speaking, Usopp looked directly at Luffy.

"Is this ship only worth that much to you, Luffy?!"

Luffy countered angrily, "Can you even judge? It's because we don't have a shipwright on this ship that we asked them for an appraisal!"

"If that's the case, fine!" Usopp exclaimed.

"We don't need them—we can do it ourselves, like we always have. I'll repair the ship! That's how it's always been! Come on, let's start right now. You guys help too!"

"Wait, Usopp," Sanji said.

"You're not a shipwright, Usopp!" Luffy shouted.

"So what?!" Usopp yelled back. "I don't trust the irresponsible judgment of shipwrights who casually declare a ship dead! Ships should be protected by their owners! I will absolutely not abandon it.

Are you all fools? To be fooled by those shipwrights' fancy words? The people I know shouldn't be so easily influenced by businessmen. They should trust the Going Merry's resilience! Using some kind of fake adult logic—"

He suddenly grabbed Luffy by the collar.

"You're just pretending to act like a responsible Captain. What kind of decision is this? I seriously misjudged you, Luffy!"

"Wait—Usopp, Luffy originally also—" Nami began.

"Shut up, Nami," Luffy said sharply. "This is something I've decided. I won't change my mind. No matter what you say, we must change ships. We have to say goodbye to the Going Merry here."

Still gripping Luffy's collar, Usopp shouted, "Don't be ridiculous! I will never allow that! Listen, Luffy—people can't always be as optimistic as you! You want me to abandon an injured companion and keep sailing? I absolutely can't do that!"

"Don't talk nonsense!" Luffy shouted back. "Even if they're companions, humans and ships are different—"

"They're the same!" Usopp interrupted.

"The Merry also has the desire to live! The problem is you! Your heart's already excited about getting a new ship, isn't it?! You're pretending to be sad about Merry only on the surface—"

Luffy snapped, shaking his hand free.

"That's enough! Don't think you're the only one suffering—everyone feels the same!"

"If that were true," Usopp said coldly, "you wouldn't have decided to replace the ship."

"Fine then!" Luffy yelled back. "If you're that dissatisfied with what I'm doing—get off this ship right now!"

Both Sanji and Sandy reacted instantly—Sanji trying to kick Luffy, Sandy blocking him with a kick of his own, the impact ringing out sharply.

Sanji glared. "What the hell are you doing?"

"At a time like this," Sandy replied firmly, "I won't allow anyone to lay hands on the Captain."

Zoro looked tense. "Hey—what are you two doing?"

Sandy turned to Usopp.

"Have you calmed down yet? You actually pushed Luffy this far—are you satisfied? The ship's keel—the most important structural support—is destroyed.

It cannot be repaired. Luffy is the Captain. If we don't change ships, what, do you want to sink into the sea and feed the fish?"

Luffy loosened his grip on Usopp's collar.

"I didn't mean to go that far… I just…"

"No, Luffy, it's fine," Usopp said with a hollow laugh as he sat down. "What you just said—that was your true feeling, wasn't it?"

"What did you say?!" Luffy snapped.

Sandy frowned. This guy… he's too far gone. Is he even listening anymore? When I went through something similar, I wasn't this bad…

Usopp continued, "Go ahead and abandon useless companions one by one. If you're going to throw away the Going Merry, then throw me away too."

"Usopp, don't be stupid," Sanji said.

"No." Usopp shook his head. "I'm serious. I've been thinking about this for a long time. Honestly… I know I can't keep up with your monstrous strength anymore. Like today—I couldn't even guard the money."

Nami glanced at Sandy, but Sandy didn't feel guilty in the slightest. After hearing the entire argument, it was clear the problem lay in Usopp himself.

Meanwhile, Sandy was already planning something for later—a surprise for everyone. How to execute it… that would be interesting.

Usopp kept speaking.

"From now on, I'll only drag you down. You don't need a weak crewmate, right? You're a man who's going to become Pirate King, Luffy. But I don't need such a lofty dream.

Thinking back… you only invited me to the ship by chance. That's all our bond was. Now things have come to this—those who walk different paths shouldn't walk together."

With that, Usopp walked out.

"Hey, Usopp—where are you going?" Sanji asked.

"Where I go is my own business," Usopp said. "I have nothing to do with you anymore. I… I'm leaving this pirate crew."

He walked off into the night, then turned back and shouted,

"Luffy! I can't travel with you anymore! Even at the end, I'm still causing trouble for you. This ship belongs to you—the Captain. So let's settle this properly. Monkey D. Luffy… let's have a duel!"

Nami blinked in shock. "W-what are you saying?"

Usopp pointed at Luffy.

"Tonight at ten. I'll come back here. We'll duel—with the Going Merry as the wager. I will defeat you and take the Going Merry. After that… my ties with you end here."

As Usopp's silhouette faded into the distance, Sandy stood quietly, unable to stop memories of his own past from surfacing…
