Chapter 48 - Chapter 48 Finally Kuya

Keifer's POV — Morning After

I woke up before the sun fully rose.

The room was quiet, wrapped in that soft, intimate stillness that only comes after a night where everything changes. For a moment, I didn't move. I just… felt.

Jay was lying beside me, bare skin warm against mine, the sheets barely doing their job. Her body was relaxed in sleep, completely unguarded. Our legs were tangled together, like they'd found their place naturally sometime in the night. One of my arms was wrapped around her waist, instinctive, possessive without meaning to be. Her hand rested on my chest, right above my heart, rising and falling with my breath.

And then the night came rushing back.

Her tears.

My confession.

Her forgiveness.

The way she chose me again.

My grip tightened slightly around her waist, as if my body needed to reassure itself that she was still here. Still mine.

She stirred at the movement, shifting closer instead of away.

God.

Her eyes fluttered open slowly, sleep-heavy and soft. When she realized it was me, a faint smile curved her lips — that smile that still made my chest ache in the best way.

I lifted my hand and gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, my thumb brushing her cheek.

"Good morning," I murmured, voice low and rough from sleep.

"Good morning, wifey."

Her smile deepened, warmth spreading across her face. "Good morning, Keif."

Hearing my name like that — quiet, intimate, meant only for me — made something settle deep in my chest. I leaned in, resting my forehead against hers, breathing her in, grounding myself in the reality of her.

No fear.

No past.

Just us.

I pressed a slow, lingering kiss to her forehead, then another to her temple, unhurried and full.

For the first time in a long time, I didn't wake up bracing myself for what could go wrong.

I woke up grateful.

And as she curled closer to me, still half-asleep, I knew one thing with absolute certainty:

Whatever came next —

I'd face it with her, every single morning like this.

Quiet Promises

She stayed close even after waking, her fingers tracing slow, absent patterns over my chest, like she was grounding herself in the moment. The morning light was brighter now, slipping through the curtains, but neither of us rushed to move.

I broke the silence first, quietly. "What do you see… when you think about the future?"

She lifted her head slightly to look at me, eyes still soft with sleep. "With you?" she asked.

"With us," I corrected gently.

She smiled — not big, not dramatic — just real. "A home that feels safe," she said. "Mornings like this. Arguments we survive. Laughter that comes back after the hard days."

Her honesty settled deep in my chest.

"I want that too," I said. "I want the boring days. The difficult ones. The days where we don't know what we're doing but still choose each other."

She shifted closer, resting her chin on my shoulder. "Are you scared?"

I didn't lie. "Sometimes. But not of you. Never you."

I slid my thumb along her arm, slow and reassuring. "I promise you this — no secrets. No running. If the past ever tries to come back, you'll hear it from me first."

She went quiet, then nodded. "And I promise… to listen. Even when it hurts. Even when I'm scared."

That hit harder than any dramatic vow ever could.

I turned slightly so we were face to face, close enough to feel each other's breath. "We won't be perfect," I said. "But I'll choose you on the days it's easy… and especially on the days it's not."

Her eyes shimmered, but she didn't cry. She smiled instead and pressed her forehead to mine.

"I choose you too," she whispered.

I kissed her then — slow, steady, full of intention. Not desperate. Not rushed. Just a promise sealed quietly between us.

When we finally pulled back, she laughed softly. "So… breakfast?"

I chuckled, brushing my thumb along her cheek. "Yeah. But just so you know—"

"What?"

"No matter where life takes us," I said, holding her close again, "this will always be home."

She nodded, curling back into my arms like she believed it completely.

And for the first time, the future didn't feel heavy.

It felt ours.

" Jay , wanna start another round." I whispered bringing her up on my chest.

" Keifer... " She chuckled and hit my chest lightly .

I sat on the bed , bringing Jay on my lap.

" Jay , look at you . You are already sitting naked in my lap ." I muttered in her ear .

She blushed , her ears turning red .

My hands went to her sensitive spot .

My fingers brushing her sensitive spot , tracing slow and lazy circles there .

" Keifer .... " She moaned, her head falling behind, nails digging in my back .

I leaned in , our lips almost going to meet , just then —

BAAM! BAAM!

Jay jumped, almost going to fall .

I caught her before she touched the floor .

" KUYA , open the door ."

Keiren.

Jay froze.

I froze.

Her fingers tightened slightly on my shoulders, and I could literally feel her heartbeat against my chest.

"Kuya? Ate?" he called again, suspicious now.

Jay looked at me with wide eyes. "Oh my God."

I swallowed. "Relax."

"Relax? I'm sitting on you."

"That's not the problem," I muttered. "The problem is he doesn't stop asking questions."

Another knock.

"Kuyaaaa. Why is it so quiet?"

Jay scrambled off my lap, wrapping the sheet around herself in a panic. I grabbed the nearest shirt and dragged it over my head.

"Yeah!" I called out, trying to sound normal. "What is it?"

There was a pause.

"…Why does your voice sound weird?"

Jay buried her face into the pillow to stop herself from laughing.

"It's morning," I said flatly. "Voices sound weird in the morning."

Another pause.

Then—

"Oh. Ate is inside, right?"

Jay and I looked at each other.

"Yes," I answered carefully.

"Okay. Tell Ate breakfast is ready. And Kuya?"

I closed my eyes. "What."

"Why did it sound like something fell?"

Jay lost it. Silent shaking laughter.

"Nothing fell," I replied. "We were just… moving things."

"In your room?"

"Yes."

"So early?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because I felt like it!"

Silence.

Then, very innocently—

"Okay. Hurry up. I'm hungry."

Footsteps faded.

The second the sound disappeared, Jay collapsed onto the bed laughing.

"You're terrible at lying," she whispered.

I sat on the edge of the bed, exhaling. "He interrogates like a lawyer."

She crawled closer again, still wrapped in the sheet. "Kuyaaaa," she mimicked in a teasing tone.

I pulled her gently back toward me. "Don't start."

She smiled softly now — the playful expression slowly fading into something warmer.

"You know," she said quietly, touching my cheek, "it feels nice."

"What?"

"This. Being called Ate. You being Kuya. It feels… real."

My chest softened.

"It is real," I said.

She leaned in, resting her forehead against mine.

"For the record," I murmured, "we were about to kiss before we got interrupted."

Her lips curved. "Were we?"

"Yes."

She tilted her head slightly. "Door's locked?"

I glanced at it.

This time — it was.

I looked back at her and smirked.

"Now it is."

She laughed softly… and then finally closed the distance between us.

Slow.

Warm.

Unrushed.

And somewhere downstairs, Keiren probably had no idea how close he came to witnessing something he could never unsee.

And I planned to keep it that way.

Breakfast Scene — Third Person POV

The dining table was unusually lively that morning.

Sunlight poured through the tall windows, reflecting off the plates and glasses as everyone slowly gathered.

Keiren was already seated, swinging his legs under the chair, impatient as always.

Keigan leaned back casually, scrolling through something on his phone.

Jay walked in from the kitchen carrying a bowl, calm and composed — as if nothing chaotic had happened upstairs earlier.

And then Keifer entered.

He looked… lighter. Relaxed. Almost glowing.

Keigan noticed immediately. "Why are you smiling like that, Kuya?"

Keifer shot him a warning look. "Eat your breakfast."

Jay hid her smile behind a glass of juice.

Eces came in last.

She paused near the table, observing everyone quietly the way she always did. There was still softness in her face from yesterday — a calm that hadn't been there before.

She took her seat beside Keigan.

For a moment, there was only the sound of plates and cutlery.

Then—

"Kuya, pass the salt."

It was soft. Natural. Almost casual.

But the table went silent.

Keifer froze.

Slowly, he turned his head toward Eces.

She didn't even look at him directly. She was focused on her plate, pretending it was nothing. But her ears were slightly red.

Keifer's fingers tightened around the salt shaker.

Kuya.

She said it so simply.

Not forced.

Not awkward.

Just… like it belonged there.

Something in his chest shifted — deep and sudden.

All his life, he had been "Kuya" to Keigan and Keiren. He protected them, guided them, stood in front when things went wrong.

But he had never had a sister.

Never had someone softer to shield.

Never had someone who would look at him and see safety.

And now—

Eces had just given him that place.

He passed the salt to her quietly.

"You can say it louder next time," he said gently.

Eces finally glanced at him. There was the faintest hint of a smile.

"Kuya," she repeated, a little clearer this time.

Keiren immediately gasped dramatically. "Ohhhh! Eces called Kuya!"

Keigan smirked. "Took you long enough."

Jay watched the entire exchange silently, warmth filling her eyes.

Keifer cleared his throat, trying to hide how affected he was.

But it didn't work.

Because his eyes had softened in a way they rarely did.

"You're stuck with us now," he said calmly. "No refunds."

Eces rolled her eyes slightly. "I didn't ask for one."

Keiren leaned forward. "Does this mean Kuya will protect you extra now?"

Keifer didn't hesitate.

"Yes."

The answer was immediate. Firm.

Not dramatic.

Just certain.

Eces blinked.

And for a split second, something fragile passed through her expression — relief, maybe. Or trust.

Jay reached under the table and gently squeezed Keifer's hand.

He squeezed back.

The table slowly returned to its usual teasing and chatter.

But something had shifted that morning.

They weren't just people living in the same house anymore.

They felt like something closer.

Like family.
