THE CONFRONTATION
Jake stood in their bedroom doorway holding Noah Reeves' investigation files—the same ones Samantha had hidden beneath her desk.
"Samantha," he said quietly, "why didn't you tell me?"
She froze.
Her armor snapped into place automatically—
cold posture, steady breathing, perfect neutrality.
"Because I needed to control the narrative," she answered.
"No," Jake said, stepping closer.
"You didn't tell me because you're scared."
Her jaw tightened. "I'm not scared."
"You are," he insisted.
"You think if you lose this company, you lose the last piece of who you were before everything went to hell."
Silence.
A truth too close.
Too deep.
Jake softened.
"Sam," he whispered, "you don't have to fight everything alone anymore."
