I went to my room and sat down at my notebook, which was on the small table beside my bed. I opened Gmail and checked the email I had received. This time, it was from a personal email address.
It was the editor's email.
Masayuki Kuroda… I've never heard that name before.' Not that I knew the names of editors from those companies in my previous world.
The email started with the editor introducing himself again, followed by several lines thanking both my father and me for signing a contract with Media Factory.
'He seems like a nice person. I'd like to meet him.'
Now, onto the important part.
Right below, the tone of the email became more serious, and he started talking about the story itself. He wanted to know how I planned to continue it. He wanted to know my plans for volume 1.
He said that after we discussed my plans a bit, he would give me a deadline to deliver the manuscript for the first volume. Since it's the first volume, he mentioned that the deadline might be a bit tight.
'Well, I write very fast, and the entire story is already in my head. That's not a problem.'
After I submit the manuscript, he said it would go through editorial feedback and so on…
There were many details I didn't care much about.
The only thing I care about is writing. I'll leave everything else to him.
So I started writing a reply email.
First, I thanked him for the opportunity to work with such a big company like Media Factory. Then I said I would leave deadlines and related matters to him, and that I would focus only on writing.
Then the email kept getting longer.
I began explaining the entire structure of volume 1:
Origin of Ainz/Momonga
Introduction of Nazarick
Establishment of the new world, like the Carne Village arc, etc.
Demonstration of absolute power
Beginning of the "world domination" plan
I wrote everything in great detail. Long paragraphs filled my notebook screen. 'How much time has passed?' Even though I wrote a lot, it hadn't been more than 30 minutes.
It's really convenient to be able to type this fast.
After that, I sent the email to Mr. Kuroda. Now I just have to wait for a reply.
And then, a few days passed.
I posted new art on my Twitter, which boosted it even more. I also started publishing two chapters of the Overlord webnovel per day, accelerating its growth even further. Now it ranks #1 daily every single day.
After waiting for quite some time, I finally received a reply from Mr. Kuroda, almost a week later.
####
Mr. Kuroda's email began with an apology for the delay, saying he had some issues at work. I skipped that part and went straight to what mattered.
The deadline to deliver the volume is 1 to 3 months. He said that since I don't have much base content yet, as the webnovel is still at the beginning, he gave me a slightly longer deadline. Normally, it would be 1 to 2 months at most.
A deadline of up to two months? But volume 1 is already almost finished!
Every day I write two webnovel chapters and then focus on the light novel volume. I'm writing so fast that I'm nearly done with volume 1. I'm currently at the part where Momonga faces the Slane Theocracy.
After finishing reading his email, I immediately replied saying that volume 1 was almost complete and I would send it within at most three days.
After that, I opened Twitter to check things.
'My followers have already surpassed 30,000… impressive.'
All the art I've posted so far is from Overlord. Of course, the one with the most likes is Albedo's illustration.
I read and replied to some comments to keep in touch with my "fans," then closed Twitter. I opened Shōsetsuka ni Narō and checked my webnovel stats. There were already nearly 20 chapters published.
'Favorites have already surpassed 20,000 with so few chapters. From what I've researched, works with over 20,000 favorites are considered a major success.'
It will probably keep growing a lot.
I smiled and opened WordPad to continue writing, but before I could start, my mother opened the door.
"Kyo, we verified that man's identity. He really works for Stardust Promotion. Do you still intend to go through with this even after signing a contract with a publisher? That will overload you! I'm worried!"
She entered suddenly, talking about Stardust Promotion, and I remembered that guy who looked like a yakuza approaching us.
A smile instinctively appeared on my face.
Then I grabbed my iPad and wrote:
[Don't worry too much, I'll be fine ^^ If the work is boring or too difficult, I'll quit immediately. I really like writing, after all. I don't want anything to affect that!]
"You talk like you're sure you'll pass the audition. I told you it's not that easy—don't be so confident! You won't pass just because of your looks!"
My mother said, hands on her waist, staring at me seriously.
I looked at her, and soon she laughed.
"Hahaha, I'm just joking. I'm sure you'll pass—you're my son, after all."
[Mom, but that man seemed in a hurry to recruit a child. Maybe the deadline already passed and contacting him won't help.]
"We'll see. I'll contact him today, okay?"
[Okay!] I smiled brightly.
After my mother left the room, I continued writing volume 1 to finish it as soon as possible.
Some time later, she came running into the room saying everything went well and that I could participate in the audition for a TV commercial.
The audition would take place in three days.
After three days...
That same morning, Kuroda contacted me, and I sent him the manuscript for volume 1.
In the afternoon, I headed to the Stardust Promotion building for my audition.
'Please… let everything go well.'
