Chapter 613 - Chapter 613: Heavy Wounds

In the shadowed corner of the suspended square, Liu Xi sat quietly hidden. His face was calm as the pure energy extracted from Hun Huzi's body was refined through his Qi Method, merging into his own Dou Qi.

Though both were 7-Star Dou Saints, Hun Huzi's strength was far inferior to that of the Nine Mysterious Golden Lightning. In both quantity and quality of Dou Qi, the difference was vast. Even so, absorbing Hun Huzi's energy brought Liu Xi a considerable gain.

He now sought only to refine this power quickly. The Void Devouring Flame and the Purifying Demonic Lotus Flame were not famed as the strongest Heavenly Flames without reason—their devouring and purifying powers were overwhelming.

Combined, they were an unparalleled weapon for forging strength. Together, they could create powerhouses at impossible speed. The Hun Clan's rise to equal the alliance of the four ancient clans owed everything to the Void Devouring Flame.

Below and above, the battle raged without pause. The earth and the heavens trembled as explosions and battle cries filled the world. It was a vision of the apocalypse.

Yet Liu Xi's attention rested on only a few figures. Elder Wanhuo, who wielded the Nine Serene Wind Flame, was being pressed by two 6-Star Dou Saints of the Hun Clan. Even with his Heavenly Flame, he struggled to fend off both opponents at once.

Elder Shen Nong, the wielder of the Life Spirit Flame, fared little better. Though that flame granted him a lifespan comparable to a Magical Beast, it did not bestow invincible strength.

Within the Death World Formation, the dense Death Qi could erode even the life force of 7-Star or 8-Star Dou Saints. The allied armies of the three clans were being crushed without mercy. Those not devoured by Death Qi were slaughtered outright by the Hun Clan, their blood raining across the sky.

The Hun Clan's warriors, skeletal and corpse-like, thrived amid the Death Qi that surrounded them. Their power only grew stronger as they fought, massacring the three clans without restraint.

But the true battlefield lay high above. Emperor Yao's massive remnant soul floated in the sky, his face calm yet filled with sorrow. This was the Yao Clan's Yao Realm—these people were his descendants.

Now they were being slaughtered before his eyes.

He was but a remnant soul. Revived through the Heaven Transforming Yao Formation, he had returned for one purpose—to protect the Yao Clan one final time.

This battle would be fought without reservation, without retreat.

The clash between the Void Devouring Flame and Emperor Yao's remnant soul had reached its peak. The Void Devouring Flame's inferno could devour all, yet the soul fire of Emperor Yao caused it unbearable torment.

That pure, transparent flame, born of soul essence, could not be digested once absorbed. Instead, it continued to burn within the soul, consuming it until both were extinguished.

The Void Devouring Flame's face was featureless, but its dark, agitated flames betrayed its frustration.

It recalled the stolen Soul Essence—that final, critical fragment that should have propelled it into the Emperor Realm of souls. But that chance was lost, leaving it one step short.

Now, facing Emperor Yao's remnant soul, its power fell short. Lacking strength, it sought to make up the difference by other means.

It raised its hand, and the black fire roared upward in a wave thousands of zhang high, surging toward Emperor Yao's massive form.

Though the remnant soul towered a thousand zhang, before the flame's tidal wave it seemed small. Yet Emperor Yao's expression remained serene.

Unshaken before the collapse of mountains. Unmoved beneath the flood.

Even as a remnant, his presence still stood above heaven and earth—once a supreme being, unfazed by the likes of the Void Devouring Flame.

He struck the massive cauldron before him. A deep, resonant hum filled the air, transforming into rippling sound waves that spread outward like waves upon a sea.

"Steady the Heavens and Earth."

His voice was calm yet mighty. The ripples swept across the battlefield, bending even space to their will. The raging black flames froze midair, bound within the rippling domain.

The waves vibrated violently, shattering the flame tide's internal stability. In moments, the fiery tsunami collapsed, scattering into countless fragments. Even so, each fragment carried devastating heat—enough to incinerate a 4-Star or even 5-Star Dou Saint instantly.

But to Emperor Yao, they were nothing.

As the inferno dispersed, the Void Devouring Flame's body reformed. Between its outstretched arms hovered a massive blood sphere hundreds of zhang wide, pulsing with killing intent and the stench of blood.

For the first time, Emperor Yao's calm face darkened. From that blood sphere, he sensed a familiar resonance—it was his own bloodline. The Void Devouring Flame had devoured his kin, refining their flesh and souls into this vile sphere.

"Beast! How dare you!"

Emperor Yao's voice thundered, the calm in his eyes burning into fury. Even clay could not stay unmoved—how could a former Sovereign of Heaven remain calm while his descendants were desecrated?

The Void Devouring Flame's laughter was harsh and twisted, filled with pleasure at Emperor Yao's wrath.

"So what if you were once a Dou Di? That was long ago! Old fool, your time has long passed. You'll vanish today—by my hand!"

It thrust its palm forward, sending the blood sphere tearing through space toward Emperor Yao. The sphere locked onto him, closing to within ten zhang in a blink.

Within Emperor Yao's eyes burned fury, sorrow, and resolve. His hands moved in a seal, and the colossal cauldron before him opened its lid.

"Cauldron that Devours the World!"

A powerful suction burst forth, twisting even the void. The blood sphere struggled but was dragged helplessly into the cauldron.

Flames surged within, refining the blood sphere. The thick blood energy within was purified and absorbed into Emperor Yao's remnant soul.

The Void Devouring Flame's face flickered in surprise, then curved into a cold sneer.

"So you can still fight back… Let's see how much you can swallow. This is your clan's realm—filled with your descendants. Take your time. I'm in no rush."

"You won't have the chance!"

Emperor Yao's voice turned cold. He knew he was but a remnant—stronger than the Void Devouring Flame, yes, but incapable of fully destroying it.

Rather than bleed away his strength, he would stake everything on one final act.

"To sacrifice oneself to the flame!"

His thousand-zhang spirit form ignited. Wisps of transparent fire rose around him—flames that carried no heat and no blinding light, burning silently and peacefully.

But the Void Devouring Flame's soul trembled. As a divine creature born of heaven and earth, its instinct sensed danger—lethal danger.

It tried to retreat. After all, once this burst was over, Emperor Yao's remnant would vanish, and the rest would be easy prey.

"Too late to run."

Emperor Yao cast one final glance across the battlefield, a trace of longing flickering in his eyes—then he dissolved completely into the transparent flame.

In an instant, the flames erupted outward, boundless and radiant. The black flames couldn't evade them and were immediately entangled.

"Ahhhh!"

A scream tore through the heavens as the Void Devouring Flame's soul burned. That pure fire—capable of igniting the soul itself—devoured a vast portion of its essence.
