Chapter 203 - Fishman Island - 11

The heavy, oppressive atmosphere that had gripped the Sea Forest slowly dissipated.

Jinbe let out a long, shuddering breath, the immense weight of the past finally settling. The tragic history of Fisher Tiger's demise, Queen Otohime's assassination, and Arlong's violent rampage in the East Blue had formed a suffocating knot of hatred and guilt.

But here, looking at Nami's forgiving smile and the swift, decisive justice dealt by the Straw Hats, the Knight of the Sea felt a sense of peace. The cycle of hatred had been broken not by violence, but by truth and grace. He offered a short, deep bow to the crew, his silent gratitude speaking volumes.

King Neptune stood near his wife's grave, leaning heavily on his golden trident. The fury that had consumed him upon learning the truth of Otohime's murder had cooled into a weary, yet profound relief. His kingdom was safe, and the true enemy was in chains.

Neptune turned to face the Straw Hat Pirates, his massive, bearded face softening into a warm, jovial expression.

"Jamjamjam," Neptune laughed, though his eyes were slightly misty. "I do not have the words to express my gratitude properly. You have saved my daughter, uncovered the darkest secret of my kingdom, and neutralized a rebellion. To honor your heroic deeds, I formally invite you all to a grand feast at Ryugu Palace tonight! We shall celebrate with the finest delicacies the ocean depths have to offer!"

"A FEAST?!" Luffy's eyes instantly transformed into massive, sparkling stars. Drool pooled at the corner of his mouth. "MEAT! YOU HAVE SEA MEAT, RIGHT?!"

"The very best, Straw Hat Luffy," Neptune promised with a wide smile.

"Awesome! We accept!" Luffy cheered, pumping his fists in the air. But then, he paused, tapping his chin thoughtfully. "But... the party is tonight, right? We just got here! I wanna see the island first! I wanna go sightseeing!"

"A most reasonable request," Neptune nodded agreeably. "Fish-Man Island has many wonders. You are free to explore the commercial districts and the coral reefs at your leisure."

Behind the King, the colossal form of Princess Shirahoshi fidgeted nervously. She had wiped the tears from her massive blue eyes, and for the first time in a decade, she was looking out at the beautiful, vibrant expanse of her homeland without fear.

"F-Father?" Shirahoshi asked, her voice timid but hopeful. "If... if Luffy-sama and his friends are going to explore the island... may I please go with them? Just for a little while? I want to see the town."

Neptune froze. His fatherly instincts, honed by ten years of absolute paranoia, instantly flared up. He gripped his trident tighter, his eyes darting around the forest. "Shirahoshi... my sweet daughter, it is still incredibly dangerous out there! What if there are more extremists? What if..."

"Your Majesty, there is no need to worry," Ben interjected smoothly, stepping forward and adjusting his glasses. "The primary threat, Vander Decken, was neutralized by Sanji and is currently secured inside my spatial dimension. Hody Jones is in your dungeon. Her immediate enemies are gone."

Ben gestured toward the heavily armed, diverse crew standing around the clearing. "Furthermore, she will be accompanied by us. I assure you, there is no safer place in the world for the Princess than walking alongside the Straw Hat Crew."

Neptune looked at the Magician, then at the confident, relaxed faces of the pirates who had just casually dismantled a coup d'état. He let out a long, defeated sigh, his shoulders slumping.

"You speak the truth, Magician," Neptune relented. He turned to his three massive sons. "Fukaboshi! Ryuboshi! Manboshi! You will escort your sister. You will not let her out of your sight for a single second. Protect her and assist the Straw Hats on their tour."

"Yes, Father!" the three princes saluted sharply, perfectly willing to act as bodyguards for their beloved sister's first real outing in ten years.

Robin, who had been quietly observing the coral formations of the Sea Forest, stepped closer to the King.

"King Neptune," Robin asked politely, her striking blue eyes filled with archaeological curiosity. "If it isn't an imposition, I was wondering if there is a Poneglyph on this island? My studies suggest that a kingdom as ancient as yours would likely possess a stone of history."

Neptune looked at the dark-haired archaeologist, slightly surprised by the request, but he nodded. "There is, Nico Robin. It is located deep within the Sea Forest, heavily guarded by the local fauna. If you wish to see it, I shall personally guide you there."

"Thank you," Robin smiled pleasantly.

As the group began to naturally divide into their respective sightseeing squads, Franky adjusted his sunglasses and cracked his metallic knuckles.

"I've got an errand to run, too," the cyborg announced. "Tom-san's relative should be nearby, I will go look for him."

"Den-san is usually at his workshop near the Sea Forest perimeter," Jinbe offered helpfully. "He is an eccentric man, but his coating skills are unmatched."

"SUPER!" Franky struck a pose. "I'll go track him down! Leave the ship's maintenance to the Iron General!"

While the crew organized themselves, a sudden, horrifying realization struck Sanji.

The blonde cook had finally, fully calmed down from his white-hot rage toward Jinbe over the Arlong incident. He took a long drag from his cigarette, exhaling a cloud of smoke as he turned around to rejoin the group.

His visible eye landed squarely on the colossal, beautiful figure of Princess Shirahoshi.

Sanji's brain completely stopped functioning.

He saw the flowing pink hair, the flawless, angelic face, the massive, shimmering mermaid tail, and the incredibly generous, barely-contained proportions of the giant princess.

A mermaid... a literal mermaid princess... Sanji's internal monologue short-circuited. She is the pinnacle of aquatic beauty... the goddess of the sea...

"MELLORIIIIINE!"

Sanji didn't even have time to swoop or spin. The sheer, concentrated volume of romantic shock bypassed his nervous system entirely. His skin turned a dull, slate gray. His limbs locked into place. With a soft, scraping sound, Sanji completely calcified, turning into a solid, crumbling stone statue right in the middle of the grass.

"SANJI!" Chopper shrieked, instantly dropping his cotton candy.

The little reindeer entered full medical panic mode. He scrambled over to the petrified cook, waving his hooves wildly in the air.

"HE TURNED TO STONE! HE'S DEAD! SOMEONE CALL A DOCTOR! WE NEED A DOCTOR RIGHT NOW!" Chopper screamed, tears streaming down his furry face.

Usopp walked over and tapped Chopper on the shoulder. "Chopper. You are the doctor."

Chopper froze mid-panic. He blinked twice. "Oh! Right! I'm a doctor!"

Chopper instantly shifted from a hysterical pet into a highly focused medical professional. He pulled out his stethoscope and pressed it against the stone chest of the cook.

"His heartbeat is incredibly faint, and his epidermal layer has undergone spontaneous calcification due to extreme psychological shock!" Chopper diagnosed rapidly, pulling out a notepad and scribbling furiously. "I've read about this in my magical studies with Ben! I need to synthesize a cure! A restorative potion infused with anti-petrification enchantments! I'll head back to the Sunny's lab immediately!"

Chopper hoisted the stone statue of Sanji over his shoulder with surprising strength and sprinted toward the ship, fully intent on brewing a magical cure for extreme perversion.

Ben watched the reindeer run off, shaking his head with a faint smile. He turned his attention back to Shirahoshi.

The Princess was looking down at the town below, a mixture of awe and trepidation on her face. "It is so crowded," Shirahoshi whispered. "And I am so large... I will be very noticeable. I do not want to cause a panic."

"You won't," Ben said, stepping toward her.

Shirahoshi looked down at the Magician. "But... my size,...."

"Size is just a matter of perspective," Ben replied smoothly. He raised his right hand, his eyes glowing with the violet light.

"Command T: Shrink."

Ben snapped his fingers.

A wave of magical energy washed over the colossal mermaid. Shirahoshi let out a surprised, high-pitched gasp as the world around her suddenly expanded rapidly. The towering coral trees seemed to shoot into the sky, and the human-sized pirates were suddenly eye-level with her.

In a fraction of a second, the fifty-foot-tall princess had been compressed down to a perfectly normal, five-foot-eight human height.

"W-What happened?!" Shirahoshi gasped, looking at her tiny hands. "I am so small!"

Neptune, Fukaboshi, Ryuboshi, Manboshi, and the surrounding Royal Guards simultaneously dropped their jaws. Their eyes bugged out of their heads, completely incapable of processing the casual, physics-defying magic that had just transformed their giant princess into a pocket-sized mermaid.

"S-S-She shrank!" Fukaboshi stammered, rubbing his eyes violently.

"What kind of devilry is this?!" Neptune boomed, though he looked more amazed than angry.

For the Straw Hat crew, however, it was just Tuesday.

"Cool," Luffy noted, picking his nose. "Now she can fit in the restaurants."

"Much more convenient for stealth," Usopp agreed, adjusting his goggles.

Ben wasn't finished. He looked at Shirahoshi's shimmering, pink mermaid tail. While beautiful, a tail was incredibly impractical for walking through a bustling commercial district, even at human size.

Ben drew the Elder Wand from his sleeve.

He pointed the tip of the wand at her tail. "Mutatio Corporis."

A brilliant, swirling golden light enveloped Shirahoshi's lower half. The princess gasped again, feeling a strange, tingling sensation where her scales used to be. The massive, powerful tail split seamlessly down the middle, the scales dissolving and shifting into smooth, pale skin. Bones rearranged themselves flawlessly, joints forming without a single ounce of pain.

When the light faded, Shirahoshi didn't have a tail. She had two perfectly formed, human legs.

But Ben didn't stop there. With a secondary flick of his wand, he cast a clothing charm. A beautiful, stylish, and highly practical outfit materialized over her new legs—a flowing, light-pink sundress that matched her hair, paired with comfortable, white strappy sandals.

Shirahoshi stood on her own two feet for the very first time in her life. She wobbled slightly, her new center of gravity throwing her off balance.

"Oh my!" Shirahoshi gasped, looking down at her legs, wiggling her toes in the sandals. "I have... I have human legs! And shoes! It feels so strange!"

Neptune and the Princes were completely paralyzed. The King dropped his trident again, clutching his chest. "Legs?! He gave a mermaid legs?! That is a biological impossibility!"

"He's a wizard," Nami sighed, patting the King on the arm. "Just don't ask how it works. It saves time."

Ben offered a polite, gentlemanly bow to the stunned princess. "Enjoy your time outside, Princess Shirahoshi. You have legs, and you have your freedom. Go see your kingdom."

Shirahoshi looked at Ben, tears of joy welling in her eyes. Without hesitation, she lunged forward and threw her arms around Ben in a tight, overwhelming hug.

"Thank you, Magician-sama!" Shirahoshi wept happily. "Thank you so much! This is a miracle!"

Before Ben could politely return the hug, the loud, scraping sound of stone grinding against stone echoed from the direction of the Thousand Sunny.

Sanji, who had apparently broken out of his petrified state through sheer, unadulterated willpower and jealousy before Chopper could even administer a cure, came sprinting across the grass. He was half-covered in cracked stone flakes, his eye burning with a demonic fire.

"MAGICIAN!" Sanji roared, lunging forward and grabbing Ben by the collar of his shirt. "YOU BASTARD! WHAT DID YOU DO?!"

"I gave her legs so she could walk," Ben replied calmly, entirely unfazed by the cook's rage.

"SHE WAS A MERMAID!" Sanji screamed, shaking Ben violently. "A PERFECT, FLAWLESS MERMAID! THE ULTIMATE ROMANCE OF THE SEA! AND YOU TURNED HER INTO A REGULAR HUMAN?! YOU DESTROYED THE DREAM! YOU RUINED THE AESTHETIC! I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU!"

WHACK!

Nami's Clima-Tact connected squarely with the back of Sanji's head, sending the cook crashing face-first into the dirt.

"Shut up, you pervert!" Nami barked, grabbing Sanji by his collar and dragging his unconscious body toward the town path. "He did her a favor! Now come on, we have shopping to do!"

With the chaos settling, the groups officially split up.

Luffy, Bonney, Usopp, Sunny, and Mini Merry formed a highly energetic, chaotic pod. They dragged Shirahoshi into the center of their group, followed closely by the three overly-protective Princes.

"Let's go find the meat market!" Luffy cheered, grabbing Shirahoshi's hand.

"And the candy shops!" Bonney added, her mouth already watering.

Shirahoshi stumbled slightly on her new legs, but she laughed—a bright, genuine sound—as Luffy pulled her along, taking her first real steps into the vibrant world of Coral Hill.

The Depths of the Sea Forest

Far from the bustling commercial districts, the Sea Forest grew dense, dark, and utterly silent.

Ben, Robin, and King Neptune walked along a narrow, overgrown path. The towering coral formations cast long, eerie shadows across the ocean floor. Neptune moved slowly, a heavy, contemplative silence hanging over the massive monarch.

"We are here," Neptune announced, coming to a halt before a massive, thick grove of sea-ferns. He pushed the foliage aside with his trident.

Resting in a quiet, undisturbed clearing was a massive, indestructible block of dark blue stone. The surface was meticulously carved with the ancient, blocky script of the Void Century.

A Poneglyph.

Robin's eyes lit up. The scholar within her took over completely. She approached the stone with quiet reverence, pulling a small notebook and a pen from her jacket pocket. She ran her pale fingers over the grooves, her eyes scanning the text rapidly.

"Fascinating," Robin murmured, her voice barely a whisper in the quiet clearing. She read in silence for several minutes, translating the ancient words with practiced ease.

Ben stood a respectful distance away, his hands tucked casually into his pockets, allowing her the moment of discovery. Neptune watched her with guarded eyes.

Finally, Robin lowered her notebook. She turned to face King Neptune, her expression shifting from scholarly curiosity to profound confusion.

"Your Majesty," Robin began, her voice steady. "I have read dozens of Poneglyphs across the Grand Line. Most of them contain fragmented histories of the Void Century, or coordinates leading to the Ancient Weapons."

She pointed to the stone behind her.

"But this one... this is not a history text. It is a letter. A deeply personal apology, written directly to the Mermaid Princess of the time." Robin narrowed her eyes, studying the King. "Who is Joy Boy?"

Neptune let out a long, heavy sigh. He leaned against his trident, looking at the stone as if it were a heavy burden.

"Joy Boy was a human," Neptune explained, his voice low, filled with the weight of centuries-old lore. "A man who lived during the Void Century. Eight hundred years ago, he made a grand promise to the Mermaid Princess of our island. A promise to bring our people to the surface, to live under the real sun."

Neptune gestured vaguely toward the deeper, unseen regions of the Fish-Man District. "He tasked our ancestors with building the massive ship, Noah, to carry our people to the surface. But... he failed. He was defeated in the great war, and the promise was broken."

Neptune looked down at the Poneglyph. "The stone you just read is his apology. He inscribed his sorrow for failing to keep his word. However, while I do not know the full details of his failure, a legend was passed down through the Ryugu Royal Family. Joy Boy prophesied that one day, someone would appear on his behalf to finally fulfill that ancient promise. That is why we guard this stone, and why we protect the Ark Noah. We wait for the 'Promised Day'."

Neptune turned his head, his gaze locking onto Ben. The King's eyes were sharp, carrying the wisdom of a ruler who had just connected a massive, terrifying dot.

"You already knew this," Neptune stated, pointing a massive finger at the Magician. "Earlier, when my ministers were panicking over the prophecy of destruction... you told me that a long-lost promise might finally be fulfilled. You were speaking of Joy Boy."

"I was," Ben nodded smoothly, entirely unbothered by the accusation.

"And you said," Neptune pressed, stepping closer, "that the promise will be fulfilled in the near future. How can you be so certain? How can you speak of an eight-hundred-year-old myth as if it is a guaranteed fact?"

"I told you, Your Majesty," Ben replied, his golden eyes glinting in the dim light. "I am a Magician. My arts are not limited to physical transfiguration or combat. Sometimes, I can see glimpses. Fragments of the past, and the rippling currents of the future."

Neptune stared at him, unnerved by the absolute certainty in the young man's voice.

Robin, processing the conversation, stepped forward. She looked at Neptune, connecting her own vast historical knowledge to the current situation.

"King Neptune," Robin interjected smoothly. "When I was in Skypiea, I found a Poneglyph on the golden belfry of Shandora. It detailed the location of the Ancient Weapons."

Robin watched the King's reaction carefully. "The stone explicitly stated that the Ancient Weapon, Poseidon, was located here. On Fish-Man Island."

Neptune flinched violently. The massive King physically stepped backward, a look of pure, unadulterated panic washing over his face. He gripped his trident so hard his knuckles cracked, sweat immediately beading on his forehead.

"Poseidon..." Neptune stammered, his eyes darting back and forth nervously. "I... I do not know what you mean. A weapon? Here? Impossible."

Robin narrowed her eyes, sensing the blatant lie.

Neptune looked desperately at Ben. He remembered the Magician's uncanny knowledge of the world. "You... you know, don't you?" Neptune whispered, pleading with his eyes.

Ben simply smiled and nodded.

Robin caught the silent exchange. She turned to Ben, her brow furrowing in genuine confusion. "Ben? What does he mean? What is the weapon?"

Ben didn't answer immediately. He walked over to Robin, stepping up right behind her. He gently wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her back flush against his chest in a comforting, protective back-hug.

Robin stiffened slightly at the unexpected contact, but quickly relaxed, leaning into his warmth as he rested his chin lightly near her shoulder.

"My dear Robin," Ben murmured softly, his voice a low, smooth baritone right by her ear. "You are looking for a battleship, or a cannon, or a machine. But the Ancient Weapons are not all constructed of steel and wood."

Ben looked over her shoulder at the terrified King.

"The princess you just saw," Ben revealed, his voice calm and steady. "The sweet, crying girl who is currently eating cotton candy with our captain... she has inherited another name. Her true name is Poseidon."

Robin froze. Her breath caught in her throat. She looked at Ben, then immediately snapped her gaze to King Neptune, her eyes wide with shock.

"Is this true?" Robin asked, her voice trembling slightly with the sheer magnitude of the revelation. "The Mermaid Princess is an Ancient Weapon?"

Neptune, seeing that the secret was completely out, slumped forward in defeat. He nodded heavily.

"Yes," Neptune confessed, his voice thick with sorrow and fear. "She is one of the three legendary weapons, alongside Pluton and Uranus. She can communicate with and command the Sea Kings. A power capable of sinking the world into the ocean. It is a curse passed down through the royal bloodline."

Neptune looked at them with desperate, pleading eyes. "If the World Government, or the Yonko, were to find out about her true nature... they would tear this island apart to take her. They would use her as a tool of annihilation. You must not tell anyone."

"Don't worry, Your Majesty," Ben said softly, keeping his arms wrapped securely around Robin. "The secret is safe with us. We have no interest in ruling the world. We only want to be free."

Robin leaned back against Ben, processing the terrifying reality that the sweet, timid girl they had just rescued was a living weapon of mass destruction.

Neptune sighed, rubbing his forehead. The King looked older, the weight of the crown heavy on his brow.

"There is one more thing," Neptune said, looking at Ben. "Madam Shyarly's prophecy. She is never wrong. She saw Straw Hat Luffy destroying Fish-Man Island. Tell me, Magician... with your glimpses of the future... will my kingdom truly be destroyed?"

Ben looked at the King, his expression turning thoughtful.

"Let me ask you a question, Your Majesty," Ben replied cryptically. "What exactly is Fish-Man Island? Is it the coral? Is it the bubble of air? Is it the dirt and the stone?"

Neptune frowned. "It is our home."

"If the land is destroyed," Ben said softly, "then yes, Fish-Man Island will fall. But if the island is the people... the citizens, the children, your family... then the island will be perfectly safe."

Ben offered a small, reassuring smile. "It all depends on how you define your kingdom, Neptune. But I can promise you one thing with certainty. In the future... the people of Fish-Man Island will live under the real sun."

Neptune stared at the Magician. The riddle hung in the air. The King processed the words, the fear of destruction slowly morphing into an enlightened realization. If the bubble popped, but the people were led to the surface... it wasn't a tragedy. It was a liberation.

Neptune let out a long, shuddering breath, a small, hopeful smile breaking through his beard.

"I understand," Neptune nodded deeply. "Thank you, Magician."

"Now, if you'll excuse us," Ben said, unwrapping his arms from Robin and taking her hand gently in his. "We have a bit of sightseeing to do in the market area before the shops close. We will return to Ryugu Palace for the party tonight."

"Of course," Neptune bowed slightly. "Enjoy the island. I shall return to the palace to prepare the banquet."

As Neptune departed, Ben and Robin walked hand in hand out of the Sea Forest, leaving the heavy history of the world behind them.

The rest of the afternoon was a whirlwind of vibrant, joyous chaos for the Straw Hat Pirates.

In the bustling commercial district of Coral Hill, Luffy and Shirahoshi were an absolute spectacle. The princess, experiencing the freedom of walking on two human legs for the first time, was delightfully clumsy. She stumbled over uneven cobblestones, laughing brightly as Luffy caught her arm to steady her.

"Look at this!" Bonney cheered, emerging from a local bakery carrying a massive box of deep-sea kelp pastries and sweet coral-candies. She handed one to Shirahoshi, who took a bite, her eyes lighting up at the burst of sugary flavor.

Usopp stood on a fountain edge, surrounded by the three massive Princes, aggressively exaggerating his role in the fall of Enies Lobby, acting out his sniper poses while the Princes watched in sheer awe.

Meanwhile, at the edge of the Sea Forest, Franky had successfully tracked down Den, the eccentric merman shipwright. The two of them were currently deep in a highly technical, incredibly loud argument about the specific viscosity of Yar Yarman resin required to properly coat the Thousand Sunny's massive hull for the turbulent currents of the New World.

And wandering through the vibrant, bustling open-air market, Ben and Robin enjoyed a quiet, peaceful date. They browsed through stalls selling exotic sea-glass jewelry and ancient sunken trinkets, completely unbothered by the chaos of the world above. Robin laughed softly as Ben expertly haggled with a merchant using a flawless, deadpan face, securing a beautiful, iridescent pearl necklace that he promptly clasped around her neck.

For one perfect afternoon, ten thousand meters below the surface of the sea, the Straw Hat crew wasn't fighting a war. They were just a family, enjoying the wonders of the deep blue, completely oblivious to the grand, raucous banquet waiting for them at the palace that night.
