Chapter 96 - Chapter 95 - War of Raventree Hal

"Crazy bastard!" That was the only thing Stregobor could shout in the face of the gigantic fire tornado. What wizard would spend that amount of magic in a fight? Wasn't he afraid of running out of magical energy? Crazy, this guy is crazy!!!

Cadmus didn't care about the old wizard and attacked him with full force. Fire tentacles erupted from the tornado and advanced against Stregobor's hundreds of illusions; each tentacle was extremely fast and tore through the air with a loud hum.

At the same moment, the gigantic fire tornado transformed into a wave of fire and spread everywhere. Cadmus was sure that Stregobor was in the vicinity. Since the man could create as many illusions as he wanted, he would just increase the area of the magic's impact.

Suddenly, Cadmus looked north and saw a figure quickly moving away; it was Stregobor, his true body. "Found you." The Royal Mage said with a calm tone, his green eyes fixed on the old wizard's body.

As for the other wizards around, Cadmus noticed that most used shield spells to protect themselves, but if it were so easy to escape a spell of that degree, it wouldn't be considered a dangerous feat. Firestorm was not just any fire spell, and as Cadmus imagined, these wizards' shields crumbled like the black stones before Balerion's black fire.

"ARHGGG!!!"

"ARGHGGG!!!"

"AERGHHH!!!"

Twenty of the twenty-five wizards turned into human torches, the terrible heat melting their skin, flesh, and eyes; it looked like a scene worthy of a horror movie with extreme gore. Even Cadmus felt his stomach churn at such a disgusting and grotesque scene.

"The Protego Diabolica is much more elegant than this." Cadmus murmured, feeling that the blue flames were infinitely more elegant and killed painlessly. Grindelwald had another reason to use this spell besides ensuring loyalty.

However, five wizards still escaped the attack, which surprised Cadmus somewhat, although their conditions were not the best. Especially the middle-aged man, who had half of his body charred and his skin falling to the ground.

Cadmus no longer cared about the low-ranking wizards and looked at Stregobor, who was fleeing with his tail between his legs, like a dog. The Grand Master had his noble robe burned, and his long beard could no longer be called a long beard, just a tuft of burnt and blackened hair.

The wizard apparated before Stregobor and showed a cold gaze. "You dare come to my territory and plan to kill my wife and then want to flee as if nothing happened? Things don't work that way, my dear Grand Master."

"Your wife is a demon; I saw it in the prophecies; she is destined to burn the world." Stregobor said with a calm tone, and despite the critical situation, the man was calmer than ever. He was a wizard hundreds of years old; it would take many more things for him to truly panic.

"Prophecies, prophecies, prophecies." Cadmus repeated the word with a touch of sarcasm; he looked at the old wizard and asked with a cold tone. "Do you know the theory of self-fulfilling prophecy?"

"It's nothing too complicated; this theory explains that prophecy influences behavior in such a way that the person's own action makes the prediction true." Cadmus explained with a calm tone. "Do you understand what I mean?"

Stregobor, being a wizard and an intelligent mind, naturally understood the implications of Cadmus's words, but he refused. He refused to accept that his studies of hundreds of years, tens of thousands of sleepless nights, were useless.

He refused to accept that he himself was the greatest cause of the prophecy, because that meant crushing his own pride, ego, and achievements, which shaped who he was today. Faced with such a situation, Stregobor did what every arrogant person does.

He ignored the words of advice and refused to accept that he was walking down the wrong road. And usually, the end of such a road is death.

"I understand." Cadmus looked into the green eyes of the wizard before him and spoke with a chilling tone. "Then, you die knowing that you were ignorant and that your quest is nothing more than the delusions of a mind held captive by its own flesh and prejudices."

The light in Stregobor's staff shone as never before; he no longer cared about saving magical energy, and with all the fury, resentment, and anger bubbling in his chest, his will distorted reality itself and manifested the illusion before him.

Before Cadmus, a gigantic metal Golem emerged; it was as tall as a hundred meters, fifty wide. It looked like a completely silver humanoid being without a face or gender characteristics, just a gigantic genderless silver being.

"Illusion magic is interesting." Cadmus murmured to himself with a tone full of interest; even his coldness softened for a moment.

He never thought of turning the false into real. Of course, the biggest reason for this was that even he, a being with a large amount of magical energy, couldn't really manifest such a thing for long, so it was totally useless in a fight.

If Cadmus couldn't make an illusion real for long, neither could Stregobor, not with the old wizard's amount of magical energy. Cadmus's eyes quickly swept over the Grand Master's robes, fingers, and hands.

Cadmus's eyes fixed on the jewel of Stregobor's staff, and he said with a calm tone. "You accumulated magical energy for decades in the jewel. I must say, it's very clever; it completely removes the limitation of low magical energy. However, this only works once every decade."

"It's enough to kill you!!!" Stregobor said, feeling a pain in his heart. It was the magical energy he had accumulated for almost ninety years; it was a price he really didn't want to pay except in a desperate situation.

With his words, the gigantic steel Golem moved; the ground trembled with its steps; it looked like an earthquake of great magnitude. A magic capable of destroying a city without any difficulty.

Cadmus could understand why Grand Masters of Magic were truly weapons of mass destruction and why the Free Cities didn't dare to have many dangerous thoughts regarding Aretuza and Ban Ard. After all, even Braavos didn't want to casually offend these two organizations.

Suddenly, the gigantic arm of the gigantic Golem transformed into a liquid, and enormous spears made of pure steel advanced against Cadmus!!! Each spear could exceed the speed of sound; the sonic booms could be heard tens of kilometers away.

The Court Mage apparated away, but soon discovered that the spears seemed to follow his magical trail, meaning they couldn't really be dodged. Cadmus appeared in several parts of the battlefield, but the spears tenaciously followed him.

Dodging a spear that passed centimeters from his face, leaving a trail of blood on his cheek, Cadmus narrowed his eyes and continued to apparate without delay. He used Repel to repel some of the spears, but there were tens of thousands of attacks. And being human, he was not a god.

When Cadmus was ready to intercept all the spears, gigantic wooden roots emerged from the ground and advanced against him in a mere instant. Faced with a situation where he had to dodge attacks from all sides, Cadmus showed no panic, only a solemn expression.

"Fiendfyre." With a murmur, a gigantic amount of blue flames swept the environment around him, forming a fireball around him.

Whether it was the roots or even the fire spears, everything that came into contact with the demonic blue fire turned to ashes. At that moment, Cadmus didn't care about trying to control the fire; he let the fire cause the destruction and horror it so desired.

The blue flames, which took the forms of animals, cadaverous dragons, manticores, and basilisks, all advanced towards the strongest enemy present – Stregobor!

"Damn it!!!" Seeing the demonic flames, Stregobor's face changed drastically. Even without knowing such a spell, as an experienced wizard, he could see that Cadmus had opened a portal to another world to summon such flames.

Which meant there were infinite flames as long as the portal was open!

Stregobor cursed the wizard who created such a crazy spell, after all, the spell seemed totally uncontrollable, and the flames seemed to have a mind of their own!!!
