Jhin didn't know if the "Angel aura" Gabriel mentioned truly had the effect of preserving items. He suddenly recalled her previous mention of "violating the Angel Treaty and the contract terms."
He couldn't help but be curious about the connection between the two. If there wasn't a connection, Gabriel wouldn't have needed to add the contract terms; mentioning the Angel Treaty alone would have sufficed.
"Vignette, are there any regulations in the Angel Treaty related to contracts?"
"Hmm?" Vignette recalled the content of the Angel Treaty from the Demon Realm exams and actually remembered a relevant clause. "I think there are."
Seeing the situation turn unfavorable, Gabriel wanted to stop Vignette from speaking. Unfortunately, Jhin anticipated her move. He directly pinned her hands behind her back, rendering her immobile, while urging Vignette on.
"Vignette, tell me quickly. Gabriel is definitely hiding something from me."
"I remember. The Angel Treaty states that any contract signed by an angel training in the Human World using their name is regarded as a self-imposed restraint using their True Name. They must execute the terms of the contract. Once violated, they will be forcibly brought back to Heaven."
"Damn it! Why does a demon like you know our Angel regulations so well?!" Gabriel flew into a rage out of humiliation upon seeing Vignette inform Jhin. "Is the Demon Realm planning to go to war with Heaven or something?"
"It's not as serious as you think. It's just that the Angel Treaty is included as mandatory content in the Demon Realm exams, said to serve as reference material when encountering angels." Vignette had a second half of that sentence she didn't finish: It can also be used to prank them based on the Angel Treaty. Many Greater Demons take pride in successfully pranking angels.
Regarding "True Names"—in a world without mystery, it would just be a hidden real name. Knowing it wouldn't be a big deal.
But in a high-mystery world, grasping a dragon's True Name could grant one its talents and abilities. More powerful entities could even directly control the life and death of the True Name's owner.
Although Gabriel's Heaven regulations couldn't go as far as affecting life and death, they could still make her obedient within certain limits. After all, if she really got pissed off, she could still violate the Angel Treaty to beat someone up.
"Oh ho?" Jhin gave a playful smile. He released Gabriel and took out the maid contract he had signed with her. While flipping through it, he pressed Vignette further, "So, that means however long the employment period on the contract is, the angel must abide by it for that long?"
"Theoretically, yes."
Jhin thought of his indefinite mission to bring Gabriel back to the right path. He finally found a thread of direction. He took out a pen and, without hesitation, drew an "∞" symbol in the employment date section. Like this, Gabriel became his maid forever.
In a certain household in Heaven that looked no different from an ordinary home, an angel wearing a kimono closed her eyes and sighed. She did not stop this young man's reckless action. Compared to this slightly special human boy, she needed to conduct a trial for Gabriel more. As for the date... let's wait until matters here in Heaven are finished.
After Jhin added that stroke to the contract, Gabriel felt an inexplicable connection form between her and him. She asked in a rough voice, "Jhin, what strange thing did you add to the contract?"
"Hmm? I just wrote the employment date as infinite. We hadn't filled in a date before anyway."
"Eh?" Vignette hummed softly. In her perception, the aura fluctuations of Gabriel and Jhin now shared a trace of similarity. Although not completely identical, if an angel or demon unfamiliar with them were to judge, there was a high probability they would identify the two as the same person or twins. This confused her greatly.
"Just changing the date to infinite causes this kind of change? How magical."
"Gabriel..." Jhin smiled wickedly and lightly shook the contract, looking like a villain who had caught a beautiful girl's weakness. "Now, Master is giving you an order."
"W-What do you want to do?"
Gabriel stepped back in fear. Knowing the restrictions the Angel Treaty places on me, Jhin wouldn't actually have evil thoughts, right? But Vine is right here; she should be able to stop him.
"I order you to—right now, immediately, at once—go study properly!"
"You guy... you really are suited to be a demon!" Gabriel held back tears, her mouth ceaselessly denouncing Jhin. "Shameless, scum, bastard, demon, baddie!"
"Hey! What did demons do to you?!" As a genuine demon, Vignette didn't want to be used as a derogatory adjective for no reason.
"Hahahaha, keep scolding, continue scolding, scold more... it won't help." Jhin almost blurted out a declaration of being an M. "I'm making you study seriously. It's all for your own good. If your grades improve, you'll have to thank me!"
In a sense, Jhin was indeed very suited to be a demon.
Vignette had to admit that Jhin had huge potential in this area, being able to manipulate Gabriel, an angel, so thoroughly that she would even obediently do as told. It's better not to let Jhin catch hold of any leverage on me in the future.
Jhin laughed rampantly, but midway through, he suddenly remembered something. He stopped the laughter that was making Gabriel fume with rage. "Don't study just yet, Gabriel."
"Do you want me to make tea?" Gabriel thought his conscience had returned and he wouldn't make her study anymore. The dark purple resentment spreading behind her dissipated significantly.
"No." Jhin pointed to the maid outfit and cat ear set on the floor. "Put these on and then go study. You need to look like a maid, at least."
Gabriel's resentment momentarily grew so large that even Vignette, a demon, felt her heart skip a beat. She briefly thought Gabriel would fall out with Jhin right then and there. However, Gabriel actually did as he said. This scene simply caused Vignette's eyes to pop out.
Gab, do you like Jhin to this extent?!
Vignette had no way of knowing that Jhin was paying Gabriel a salary of five thousand a month. She was swallowing her pride for the sake of her whaling, and was even swallowing her pride while harboring thoughts of charging for this kind of extra service.
"How do you install this thing?" Gabriel asked Jhin, holding the cat tail.
As if he hadn't noticed her monstrous resentment, Jhin leaned over and "clicked" the cat tail into the small mechanism on the outside of the maid outfit's skirt, then handed it back to Gabriel. "There, it's installed. Go change quickly."
Once Gabriel changed into the maid outfit, Jhin sat on her bed and ordered without even looking at her, "Don't just stand there, go study quickly."
I am so cute, yet you damn well actually don't even look once!?
Gabriel really wanted to grab Jhin's head and make him take a good look at how beautiful she was in the cat-ear maid outfit. However, she could only think this in her heart. If he really looked over with lecherous eyes, Gabriel probably wouldn't be happy about it either.
What neither Vignette nor Gabriel knew was that the shutter of Jhin's personal terminal was already smoking from being pressed so fast.
