First came the division of labor: Alex and Hale were responsible for the initial preparation of ingredients, such as washing the blueberries and boiling the spaghetti.
Ella took charge of making the spaghetti sauce, while Emily handled the dessert.
Alex started boiling a large pot of water. Hale rummaged through the cabinets and eventually found three different shapes of pasta: long straight strands, spirals, and shell-shaped.
The spiral pasta was immediately rejected by all four kids in unison. "We don't like this one!"
"I like the shell-shaped ones! Each little shell can act like a tiny spoon to scoop up the rich sauce — it's so satisfying!" Ella had loved these uniquely shaped pastas since she was little. She was also a big fan of bow-tie pasta.
"I like the long straight ones!" The other three said in chorus.
In the end, Ella had no choice but to go with the majority. She had Hale put a big pack of the long straight spaghetti into the boiling water.
