Ella sighed, turned off the tablet, and placed it face-down on the table. With an expression that clearly said "this isn't over," she bit into her toast and chewed it with resentment. "Dad, are you free today or something?"
"Today is a rest day and our family day," Ned replied.
Ella didn't argue further. She lowered her head, finished her toast, and tapped her fingers lightly on the table twice without reopening the tablet.
Sophie held her coffee, the corners of her mouth curved upward as she looked at the children around her. This was the happiest moment of her life.
Suddenly, she felt a wave of nausea. Something in her stomach gently churned, so she raised the back of her hand to cover her mouth lightly.
"What's wrong?" Ned immediately put down his toast, looking at her with concern.
She took a deep breath. "It's nothing. My stomach just feels a bit uncomfortable."
