Ameila screamed as the figure crashed down on top of her.
The impact knocked the air out of her lungs, her back slamming hard against the cold kitchen floor. For a split second, her mind went blank, only the weight on her chest registered.
A man or… at least, it felt like one.
Her hands trembled as she shoved against his body, panic surging through her veins. He wasn't moving. Was he attacking her? Was he—
"Get off… get off me!" she gasped, struggling harder.
With one desperate push, the body rolled off her and hit the ground with a dull, lifeless thud.
Silence followed.
Ameila stayed frozen for a moment, chest rising and falling rapidly as she fought to catch her breath. Then slowly… hesitantly… she turned her head.
The man lay sprawled on the floor.
Her stomach dropped.
A sharp breath escaped her lips as she scrambled backward, her hands slipping slightly against something wet. She glanced down and her heart nearly stopped.
