Ameila's hand trembled violently as the shard of glass sank into flesh.
Both Abigails froze.
The air itself seemed to go still, as if the world was holding its breath in shock.
Ameila's chest rose and fell unevenly, her fingers tightening around the jagged glass. Her mind screamed at her, What have you done? but her body refused to move.
Then, the first Abigail moved.
Her hand reached down and gripped the shard embedded in her body. For a split second, her face remained blank.
Then she pulled it out, a wet sound followed as blood spilled. Then, a scream tore through the room.
It was sharp. Piercing. Warped into something unnatural, like the shrill cry of a bird echoing through a hollow space.
Ameila flinched, her ears ringing as fear shot through her spine.
"What… are you—?!"
Before she could finish, the creature turned. Its eyes locked onto her.
And then, it struck.
