The village was in an uproar as information spread about Elder Daigo's betrayal along with several of his allies in his faction.
News traveled fast through the streets of Sunagakure. People gathered in markets, teahouses, and training grounds to talk about what had happened.
The details shocked everyone. Through interrogation, it was found out that Elder Daigo was accumulating funds as well as support from enemy villages by giving intel about Suna army movements during the Second and Third Great Shinobi War.
This had cost Suna losing many of the battles and thus many shinobi lives. Families who had lost loved ones in those wars felt deep anger and sadness all over again.
This outraged both the general public and the shinobi force. They wanted to know if one elder could do it, then what if another had done the same or would do the same in the future. They did not want to be at the mercy of those who were politically strong.
The people marched in small groups, demanding answers and justice. Shinobi talked among themselves about how they had risked their lives while some elders sold secrets for personal gain. The anger was real and widespread, making the village feel restless for several days.
It took the news of Elder Daigo's death, which happened due to extreme blood loss after being defeated by Elder Chiyo, and the news of a new corruption force of Anbu headed by Shota Aizawa, the Eraserhead of Suna, that people calmed down. Many felt relief knowing that someone strong and trusted was now watching over the village from the inside.
It helped that Shota was the one to uncover Elder Daigo's betrayal and had the support of the Daimyo. His reputation as a hero who fought for the village gave people hope that things would improve.
Hundreds of millions of ryo that were found with Elder Daigo, indicating he took bribes from other nations, were also being given as compensation to the affected people as Shota had given the order to do so since this now came under the corruption unit.
The money was distributed carefully to families who had lost members in the wars due to the leaked information. Widows, orphans, and injured veterans received help that they desperately needed. This act of justice helped calm the public anger even more.
Rasa and many other elders were not happy with this use of money, but they could not do anything as it was not in their authority and purview now. The new division had clear powers given by the Daimyo himself. Rasa watched the events with caution, knowing that Shota now held significant influence in the village.
As for Shota, well, he had taken a good amount already with himself so he was happy.
He had quietly kept a nice portion of the money for personal use, thinking it was only fair after all the work he had done. 'A boy needs some savings for good beds, good food, and maybe some gifts for Pakura-sama fan club activities,' he thought with a smirk.
'Corruption fighting has its perks,' he thought happily.
Anyways, It was found that Elder Daigo mostly allied with Danzo and in some cases even with Iwa. The documents proved many secret deals and betrayals that had hurt Suna deeply over the years. The full extent of the damage was still being calculated, but it was clear that Elder Daigo had caused immense harm to the village for his own power and wealth.
Even more shocking news soon came in. The bounty on Sasori, the genius puppeteer of Suna who was taught by the Third Kazekage and the grandson of Lady Chiyo, was lifted.
It was also revealed that Sasori was framed by Elder Daigo and forced to leave the village and thus turn traitor as he was a hindrance in his plans. People were happy that Sasori was not brought back straight to the village before an investigation.
But when people heard that he was the one who gave proof about Elder Daigo, they came to the streets asking for Sasori to be taken back to the village as a hero of the village. Crowds gathered, chanting his name and demanding his pardon be honored fully.
---
Sasori, who heard all of this from his spies, was shell shocked. He sat in a hidden cave in the desert, reading the reports his informants had brought him. "What the fuck did that brat do?" he mumbled to himself, staring at the paper in disbelief.
"Lifted my bounty by the Daimyo himself?" he continued, his voice filled with surprise. "Hero of Suna? Ugh, now I would have to go back to the village."
"Should I go though? Shota in our previous meeting did say they might fund my research if they knew what I was capable of, so there is that," he thought aloud, weighing his options carefully.
"Damn that annoying little brat giving me headaches upon headaches," Sasori mumbled, shaking his head. He leaned back against the cave wall, a mix of irritation and reluctant admiration on his face.
The boy he once knew as a curious child had grown into someone who could shake the entire village and even pull him back into the fold. Sasori could not help but smile slightly at the thought, even as he complained.
