His answer surprised Lucien. Out of all the things he could be thinking about, this was not what he expected. But what surprised him even more was the fact that Kenneth had admitted his true feelings.
Lucien's mouth opened, then closed. For the first time ever, he was at a loss for words.
Kenneth noticed his loss for words and smothered the urge to roll his eyes. How was it that the one time he decided to be honest, this was the reaction he was getting from his honesty?
What a load of shit.
And as if reading his thoughts, Lucien's face broke into a lazy, one-sided smirk. "Sorry. Your words left me speechless," he said.
"Yeah, no doubt."
He leaned back into the bench as silence enveloped them like a warm and slightly scratchy blanket. The weather was gloomy, the clouds hiding the sun, matching his internal mood to a cup of tea.
Kenneth puffed out a breath, a wisp of smoke disappearing into the gusty wind.
