Chapter song: Cry - Cigarettes After Sex
Lucien was a man of reason and principle.
He didn't involve himself with things that were beyond his control and sure as hell didn't start battles he knew he couldn't win.
It was precisely why he didn't feel the least bit perturbed by his pseudo or quasi confession.
He was a confident man who trusted in himself first and foremost. Yet standing there, receiving Kenneth's heart-wrenching words left him speechless.
Lucien's mind went blank, and he could hear and feel a faint, almost staticky sound throbbing inside his mind.
Amid this silence, a thought crept in, one he'd never dare voice. What if everything he believed was just an illusion?
A wave of emotions invaded him all at once, but anger surged above the rest like a burning flame. It was a bewildering surge.
Was it targeted at Kenneth, the bearer of unexpected news, or at himself, for not foreseeing it?
