Chapter 72 - Chapter 71 Kali (Part 2)

Obi-Wan looked through the window at the starships on the outskirts of Kalee and a lucrehulk-class freighter hired from the Trade Federation, which served as a forward operating base for the attack on Kalee.

The entire system was under the illegal colonization of the Yamri people, and some planets, even those registered with the Republic as having other intelligent life forms, were invaded by them.

"Master, does the Republic not know about all of this? They are still attacking now." Obi-Wan watched the arrogant Yamri people.

Qui-Gon looked at the Yamri people's warships. "Perhaps they know, but they won't report it until their interests are involved, because it doesn't concern them."

Obi-Wan was somewhat disappointed. He couldn't believe that many people in the current Republic were like this, completely ignoring those who violated the Galactic Constitution. Was it because the Yamri people had deep ties with the Trade Federation within the Republic?

"Let's go to the ship first and tell them to cease fire. The people shouldn't be sacrifices." Qui-Gon also sighed; even Jedi sometimes felt powerless.

Approaching the lucrehulk-class freighter, the Yamri people sent a real-time communication.

"Welcome, Ambassadors of the Republic. Please park in Hangar Bay One."

Obi-Wan piloted the republic consular-class cruiser into Hangar Bay One, where many Yamri people were inspecting the Vulture Droidss for damage and repairing some Vulture Droidss that had been attacked in their tail rotor sections.

"It seems they just finished an attack," Obi-Wan whispered to Qui-Gon next to him.

"Don't alert them yet. Let's see if they will heed the Republic's demand for a ceasefire, and then we'll investigate how the conflict started." Qui-Gon whispered back to Obi-Wan, as they were in enemy territory.

A Yam'ri receptionist came over. "Ambassadors, please come this way." He led the two towards the reception room.

"Please wait, the Commander will be right there." The Yam'ri receptionist asked them to wait while he went to call the Commander, who was also the Captain of this freighter.

Soon, a nearly three-meter-tall green mantis-like creature walked in from outside. "Welcome, representatives. I am Cassius Hickman, and I am the Captain of this indomitable. I welcome you on behalf of the Yam'ri government. May I ask what brings you here?"

Clearly, Captain Cassius was feigning ignorance, as if unaware of the Council's decision.

"If you haven't received word from your representatives yet, then we will deliver it. The Republic is now ordering the Yam'ri government to cease fire and stop your illegal invasion." Obi-Wan looked at the large monster in front of him.

"Illegal invasion? I think you misunderstand, Ambassadors." Captain Cassius repeated what had been said in the Council meeting earlier, and claimed he had not received notification from his representative.

"Well, now you have! Stop the invasion immediately!" Obi-Wan slammed his hand on the table.

"Don't be impulsive, Obi-Wan. Remember what I told you." Qui-Gon calmed Obi-Wan.

"Captain Cassius, the Republic hopes that you and the Kaili people can sit down and discuss this matter, with the Jedi Order and Council members investigating the conflict. What do you think?" Qui-Gon expressed their purpose, speaking calmly to Cassius.

Seeing that both Jedi spoke this way, Cassius had no choice but to agree to cease the attack and negotiate with the Kaili people.

"Indeed, Captain Cassius, you are a wise leader," Qui-Gon complimented, then took Obi-Wan back to their ship, preparing to head to the Kaili people's tribes to find their most representative chieftain or warlord.

Flying over the western hemisphere of Kalee, they looked down at the various villages, which were mostly emitting black smoke, and no Kaili people were to be seen in the villages, only some Yamri people searching for Kaili people and collecting resources.

With the entire western hemisphere fallen, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon had no choice but to head to the eastern hemisphere to find the strongest tribe there.

In a forest, multiple temples were located, and the ground was entirely populated by Kaili people, with even an airport on top of one of the temples.

"This must be the strongest tribe of the Kaili people. Based on the density of the buildings, it's roughly estimated that tens of millions of Kaili people live here." Obi-Wan looked at the dense population of Kaili people below.

"Let's stop at the outermost layer first. We need to understand the situation here." Qui-Gon made this plan first.

Because they made no attempt to conceal themselves, the Kaili people on the ground saw the Republic cruiser, but they didn't know if it was another Huk people attack, so they hastily began to hide.

Inside the largest temple, Hilar's troops also detected the arrival of the cruiser, but Hilar, who had heard from his great-grandmother about what Republic ships looked like when he was young, knew it was a Republic ship. He figured they must have come to Kalee for something, as the ship showed no signs of being attacked.

"Send a Baltar to find them and bring them here." Hilar, sitting on the throne, ordered Sawyer Rake, one of the Eight Great Khans, to send one of his Baltar to find Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon.

"Yes, Great Khan!" Sawyer Rake took the order and dispatched nearly ten thousand people to search for non-Kaili people in the city.

Qui-Gon led Obi-Wan towards the city. The entire city expanded outwards in layers from the central temples. The people in the outermost layer were undoubtedly recent refugees, driven from their homes by the Yamri people or fleeing here.

Many of them were even starving, looking emaciated. One of the main food sources for the Kaili people was hunting, but the arrival of the Yamri people completely changed all of that. Now, they were lucky to even eat fruit. The Kaili people's level of cultivation could be said to be very poor; it was already good if they could feed a few million people, let alone nearly a hundred million Kaili people.

"There is no civilization here at all." Obi-Wan looked at these Kaili people.

"So we are here to help them, but if we return to the Republic, these people will still die. To solve this problem fundamentally, the Jedi Order alone cannot do it. So we can only rely on Kort and those benevolent planets in the Universe to help them." Qui-Gon was also powerless to change these things; he was just a Jedi Knight.

Obi-Wan even felt that the Jedi Order couldn't change everything. Even if they desperately mediated disputes in the Galaxy, encouraging people towards goodness, there were always countless people doing worse things, turning the Jedi's efforts into waste.

He just felt exhausted. He wished he had stayed on Mandalore; escaping seemed like a good option too.

He should talk to Kort. Let him, though young in age but very mature in mind, guide him. Talking to Great Master Qui-Gon wouldn't do much good; he probably had these worries too, so it was better not to bother him.

(The lowest rank is a warrior, organized into the smallest unit called a Mask, led by an officer identified as a Black Arm. Approximately 100 Masks form a tribe, led by a Takaan. Approximately 100 to 200 tribes form a brigade, commanded by a Baltar. Several brigades are organized into a Khanate, overseen by one of the Eight Khans of Izwoshra.)
