That essentially alluded to abandonment. Eugene had wondered if Arthur was talking about himself, but at that time, he was immediately drowned in his own emotions, so he quickly forgot the matter.
Being posed with the question, however, he couldn't help but be vexed. Was she trying to pit his and Arthur's situation? Was it to make him feel pity for Arthur?
Biting harshly into the last of his white chocolate ice cream and the cone, Eugene replied dryly. "I don't know."
"I think both of them are very cruel," Sophie nodded, admitting that she never intended for it to have an answer. "As a parent, I can't imagine being either one."
