"Happy birthday!"
Something popped around her, something that spewed colorful papers, ribbons, and glitter. Amidst the colorful outburst, Hannah saw her daddy, her aunt Sophie, and then her Toby in Uncle Allen's arms. Her heart beat wildly at the loud popping sound and the happy birthday.
"Daddy?" she looked at her daddy, who was holding one of the party poppers, and then behind her. "Papa?"
Eugene grinned. "Are you surprised?"
Hannah nodded slowly, hands still curled at the front of her dress.
"I'm sorry, but Daddy is actually busy preparing for your birthday party with Aunt Sophie," Eugene leaned down and explained. "Do you like it?"
Hannah turned toward the surprise party committee, who were grinning widely at her. An archway made of pastel-colored balloons, with 'Happy 6th Birthday Hannah' making the arch, stood at the end of the hallway.
"Birthday party?" the green eyes widened in astonishment. "For Hannah?"
"Yep."
