Could people become a family just because they were lovers and had a child together?
Well, normally, they should be able to. How many people in this world form a family without marriage? They just lived together and had children together, and it seemed like their life was just as fine as the other family deemed normal by society.

Eugene and Arthur also didn't live together. Even if they wanted to, it was impossible.
Arthur's apartment was an open space with one bedroom that didn't even have a proper 'wall' and wasn't exactly child-friendly. Eugene's place had a 'guest room', but it was originally meant to be a storage room, so it was small and didn't have good air circulation. Not to mention, there was no soundproofed room for Arthur to work in.
