Arthur took Eugene to the clinic's backyard, where a calm little zen garden with a pond offered them a bit of privacy. Before he could say anything, however, Eugene had already beaten him to it.
"I'm doing it," Eugene said, turning himself toward the pond.
"Gin, you heard her," Arthur frowned. "It will be painful no matter what—"
"No—didn't you hear her?" Eugene interjected. "It's this alpha hormone that suppresses my sensitivity. If...if we do this...I might be able to smell your pheromones, even when I'm not in heat."
"You can't just decide with that," Arthur frowned. "Even if you can't smell me—"
"Are you saying that if you find a cure for your face blindness, you're not going to take it?" Eugene asked rather sharply.
Arthur widened his eyes, losing whatever words he wanted to use when he saw the look in Eugene's eyes. There was a hope that was sprinkled with desperation, something he was familiar with.
