Just as Loren was still troubled about what to eat for dinner, the doorbell rang.
Android 18 glanced at the monitor by the door.
"It's Gohan."
Loren was a little surprised.
"That kid… isn't he in high school now? How does he have time to come over?"
Loren lazily stood up and opened the door.
Standing outside was a young man wearing a green tracksuit and black-rimmed glasses.
It was a grown-up Gohan.
He carried the awkwardness and shyness unique to teenagers.
"Teacher Loren. Sister Android 18."
Gohan bowed respectfully.
"Come in."
Loren stepped aside to let him enter.
"What do you want to drink? Cola or juice?"
"No—no need, Teacher."
Gohan waved his hands nervously, sat on the sofa, and straightened his back, looking like a student at an interview.
Android 18 glanced at him but still went to the fridge and handed him a can of cola.
"Thank you, Sister Android 18."
Gohan accepted it but didn't drink, only holding it carefully.
Loren leaned back on the sofa, crossing his legs.
"Alright, speak. You didn't come here for no reason. What trouble did you run into?"
Gohan's face instantly turned red.
"N-no trouble…"
He hesitated for a long moment, then pulled out a flyer and placed it neatly on the coffee table.
"That… the World Martial Arts Tournament is being held again."
On the flyer was Mr. Satan's iconic afro and exaggerated grin.
Loren glanced at it and lost interest immediately.
"Oh. And?"
"The prize money is much higher this time."
Gohan sounded a little excited.
"And Dad is participating."
"Uncle Vegeta signed up too."
He looked up, eyes filled with expectation and a hint of pleading.
"So… Teacher Loren, do you want to—"
"No."
Loren interrupted decisively.
"Not interested."
Gohan's shoulders visibly slumped.
With Teacher Loren around, could this tournament even be called a competition for the strongest?
"But… why not?"
"The prize money is really high!"
"And you could fight Dad, Uncle Vegeta, and—"
"Fight?"
Loren looked at him calmly.
"Gohan, do you really think that kind of tournament has any meaning for me?"
"I go up there, flick everyone off the ring with one finger, and then what?"
"Listen to that afro-haired guy brag to the whole world?"
"No thanks."
He waved his hand dismissively.
Gohan opened his mouth, then closed it again.
He knew Loren was telling the truth.
Seven years ago, after the Cell Games, Loren had practically vanished.
Aside from the Z Fighters, almost no one on Earth even knew he existed.
The strongest man alive… yet perfectly content with an ordinary life.
"But…"
Gohan still didn't want to give up.
"Videl… she's also participating."
"She wants to see the heroes who defeated Cell back then."
"Videl?"
Loren raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile appearing.
"Mr. Satan's daughter?"
"You're doing pretty well, kid."
Gohan's face turned bright red.
"We're… just classmates."
"Alright, alright."
Loren waved him off impatiently.
"If you want to go, then go. Don't drag me into it."
"I've finally had seven peaceful years."
After speaking, he closed his eyes, clearly signaling conversation over.
Just then—
A cold, mechanical voice echoed in Loren's mind.
[Ding! Major event detected: the future fate of Earth is approaching — the Majin Buu Saga is about to begin!]
[God-level choice triggered. Please choose, Host!]
Two light screens appeared before his eyes.
[Choice One: Of the Thirty-Six Stratagems, running away is best! Majin Buu's threat far surpasses Cell. Earth is about to fall into purgatory.
Immediately persuade Android 18, flee Earth in a Capsule Corporation luxury spaceship, and find a new home.
Reward: Capsule Corporation luxury spaceship (fully automated, ecological circulation system).]
[Choice Two: Let nature take its course. Participate in or observe the World Martial Arts Tournament and wait for the event to unfold.
Reward: Host's normal combat power increases to 300 million.]
Run away?
Forget it.
Loren glanced at Android 18 beside him.
Then he thought of Gohan, Goku, and Vegeta.
How could he leave?
Besides—out of all the planets in the universe, none were as comfortable as Earth.
Majin Buu?
Not a big deal.
Compared to fleeing into space, staying put was the better choice.
And a 300 million base combat power increase?
That alone raised his ceiling by a massive margin.
Back during the Cell Games, his base power was only 150 million.
Now it had doubled.
With Super Saiyan Three and Kaio-ken, what could Majin Buu really do?
"System," Loren said calmly in his mind, "I choose option two."
[Ding! Choice successful! Reward issued!]
Boom!
A warm current surged through Loren's body.
Every cell seemed to cheer silently.
The change was subtle.
Neither Gohan nor Android 18 noticed anything unusual.
"Teacher?" Gohan asked hesitantly. "What are you thinking about?"
Loren came back to his senses and cleared his throat.
"I thought about it."
"I won't participate."
"But going as a spectator… that's fine."
"I can cheer you on."
"Really?!" Gohan's face instantly lit up.
"That's great!"
"Mm." Loren nodded.
"Coincidentally, Android 18 and I haven't gone out for a stroll in a long time."
He had found the perfect excuse.
