Chapter 94: Prom Preparation - Part 2

POV: Sam Barton

Three days before prom, Rebekah Mikaelson ambushes me at my estate with research that splits the alliance's focus at the worst possible time.

"I've been investigating the cure independently," Rebekah announces, spreading documents across my kitchen table. "If it exists and we find it before Shane does, we can use it as leverage. He wants Silas awake, presumably to access the cure for himself or offer it to Silas. Control the cure, control Shane's motivation."

Klaus, who followed his sister, is furious. "You want mortality? After a thousand years of immortality, you'd throw it away?"

Rebekah's expression carries desperation I've seen building since her awakening. "I want the choice, Nik. A thousand years is enough. I've watched humans live and die with more meaning in decades than I've found in centuries. If the cure exists, I want it."

Elena, overhearing from the living room where she'd been helping Caroline, looks equally intrigued. She never wanted to be vampire—the cure represents everything she's lost.

The alliance meeting that evening divides predictably: Rebekah, Stefan, and Elena advocating for immediate cure pursuit; Klaus, Bonnie, Caroline, and I prioritizing prom defense.

"We can multitask," Stefan argues. "Small team investigates cure location while majority handles prom preparation."

"Splitting focus gets people killed," I counter. "Three days until potential massacre. We need everyone coordinated on one objective."

Elijah mediates with diplomatic skill. "Compromise: minimal team researches cure locations using existing intelligence while majority maintains prom focus. Sam's correct that dividing forces risks both objectives."

I reluctantly agree, assigning Rebekah, Stefan, and Connor (recovered enough for research but not combat) to cure investigation while the rest of us finalize prom defenses.

[ALLIANCE FOCUS: DIVIDED]

[CURE RESEARCH TEAM: FORMED]

[EXPERIENCE GAINED: +400]

[LEVEL 37: 2,200/5,400 TO LEVEL 38]

That night, the vision hits without warning.

I'm coordinating final defensive positions with my Sensory clone when reality fractures like broken mirror. Suddenly I'm standing on an island—tropical, surrounded by ocean, with ancient ruins that radiate power making my teeth ache.

Silas's tomb.

I know it instinctively, the same way I knew Esther's coffin was dangerous. The tomb is stone covered in mystical symbols, and when the vision shows me Silas's face, it's Stefan—doppelgänger connection making them identical.

But then the face shifts. Becomes mine.

A woman's voice echoes through the vision—Qetsiyah, the witch who created immortality and imprisoned Silas when he betrayed her. "System-wielder. Balance against immortals who break natural order. Find the truth before he wakes."

The vision ends with my nose bleeding, Caroline catching me before I collapse.

"Sam! What happened?"

Bonnie examines me with magical senses, her expression growing concerned. "Someone sent you that vision deliberately. Qetsiyah herself, maybe. Sam, you're connected to Silas somehow through your system."

I remember Shane's words from our confrontation: my parents found evidence of another system-wielder two thousand years ago. Someone who helped imprison Silas.

What if that ancient wielder was connected to Qetsiyah? What if the System itself has history with Silas that I'm inheriting?

[MYSTICAL CONNECTION: SILAS]

[VISION SOURCE: QETSIYAH]

[SENSORY ENHANCEMENT MASTERY: 82%]

[MAGIC ABSORPTION MASTERY: 88%]

[NEW QUEST: THE CURE ISLAND - LOCATE SILAS'S TOMB]

"The vision showed an island," I explain to the assembled alliance. "Tropical, ocean-surrounded, with ruins containing Silas's tomb. Qetsiyah's spirit is there, watching, waiting for something."

"Waiting for you," Bonnie realizes. "She sent the vision specifically to you because you're system-wielder like the ancient one who helped her imprison Silas originally."

Klaus looks thoughtful. "If Qetsiyah wants you involved, that's leverage. She created true immortality—her magic might counter Shane's Expression."

Three days until prom. Shane planning massacre. Silas waiting in a tomb that may or may not contain the cure. And I'm apparently mystically connected to two-thousand-year-old conflicts through systems and powers I barely understand.

That night, Caroline holds me while I process everything.

"The vision scared you," she observes. "I've seen you face Klaus, Esther, and Katherine without flinching. But Silas terrifies you."

"He looks like Stefan," I admit. "Doppelgänger thing. But in my vision, he had my face too. What if I'm connected to him in ways I don't understand? What if waking him wakes something in me?"

Caroline kisses my forehead with fierce tenderness. "Then we figure it out together. After we save prom. One catastrophe at a time."

Simple comfort, but I cling to it like lifeline.

Three days until prom.

Three days to finalize defenses, integrate new intelligence, and prepare for battle against Expression-powered witch who's spent years planning this moment.

And somewhere on a tropical island, Silas waits in his tomb, connected to me through mysteries I'm only beginning to understand.

The Clone Sovereign versus forces that predate vampirism itself.

Whatever happens at prom will reshape everything.
