Gabriel Vale arrived at the main house at six pm with a bottle of wine he hadn't been asked to bring and the expression of a person who knew something was happening and had decided to be useful about it.
He sat down at the table across from Selena. "Tell me what you need," he said.
Selena looked at him.
"I mean it," Gabriel said. The usual ease of him was still there but underneath it was something more substantial. "I know you're all being very professional and handling things in the correct operational way and I respect that. But I also know Voight's name came up today and I know what that programme was, pieces of it, and I want to help."
"How do you know Voight's name."
"Dad mentioned it yesterday. Not directly. But I was in the room." He looked at her steadily. "I'm not as peripheral as you and Roman seem to think I am, Selena."
She studied him for a moment.
