Her voice became softer. "I know you must be very tired… so why don't you rest for a while? And while you're resting, I promise I will take good care of my Calen."
The moment Roxanna said that, the shadow monster trembled. It looked like it wanted to walk closer to her, but its legs suddenly dissolved as more of her blood soaked into the ground. The shadow monster let out a painful cry, like a child crying because they couldn't reach someone they loved.
Without hesitation, Roxanna stepped forward again. She didn't even care when the shadow monster began to wrap around her whole body. She simply closed her eyes and let her blood drip onto it.
"R-Roxanna…" the shadow monster suddenly called her name. Its voice was hoarse and unclear, as if many voices were speaking at once. "I-I'm s-sorry."
With that apology, it felt as if every broken piece of Calen was trying to say sorry to her.
