The Red Comet, like a perpetual scar in the sky, hung over the Riverlands forest, trickling blood, mocking the self-slaughtering humans.
Whispering Woods became a cruel battlefield; slaughter was one of the pains humans had to face: either kill or be killed.
Echoes reverberated through the valley, with the crackle of breaking Longspears, the clang of clashing swords, and the roar of charging soldiers.
"Long live the warhammer!" "Long live the stag!" "Long live the liberator!"
"Long live the crabfeeders men!"
"Long live The Eyrie."
"Fight for Seaguard, Long live House Tully!" These shouts grew louder and louder.
"Follow me!" Gendry shouted, raising his warhammer. The tall, handsome young Knight sat astride a black steed. His golden cloak was stained with blood and dust, the blood turning the gold a rich, dark red, yet his black scale plate armor showed few scratches or dents from the war. His speed was too great, his strength immense, and the most elite Gold Cloaks cut through the formations like an arrowhead, with Ser Barristan guarding him on all sides.
Ser Barristan and the Gold Cloaks kept pace with him, the golden cavalry sweeping back and forth like a whirlwind, their hooves pounding through shallow water, causing a landslide wherever they went.
longswords hacked at oak shields, steel grated against steel, arrows whistled, and war drums thundered. The truth of tactics was simply the strong preying on the weak, taking advantage of the situation; even if the overall force was at a disadvantage, one must maintain numerical superiority in an annihilation battle.
The shouts of "Long live Lannister!" grew softer and softer, and the curses completely died out. The lion banners of House Lannister fell one by one, dropping into the leaves, into the mud, trampled by countless people. The courage of the Red Cloaks cavalry shattered before the overwhelming power and slaughter; they were outnumbered, and the enemy's formation was extremely seasoned and solid, impossible to break through.
The Gold Cloaks from Across the Narrow Sea, the fierce crabfeeders men from Claw Peninsula, the Vale cavalry, and the taxi soldiers from Seaguard—apart from the slightly weaker taxi soldiers from Seaguard, all the other soldiers possessed an irresistible momentum and were renowned, fierce warriors known throughout the world.
"Surrender and live!" Gendry raised the spiked warhammer in his hand. The forest was extremely dark, but Gendry's iron voice chilled the hearts of men. The Red Cloaks knelt one by one, dropping their weapons.
The battlefield became a sum of chaos. Gendry's taxi soldiers killed, suppressed captives, and controlled the situation. In the chaos, they held all the advantages; Gendry had won a great victory.
However, at this moment, many of Gendry's Gold Cloaks had also dispersed. This was a victor's mistake, as the unique terrain of the valley had caused many to scatter. Most people had rushed into the valley, pursuing the fleeing, and the narrow valley became congested due to the fighting, which ironically negated their numerical advantage.
Gendry saw large numbers of dead or kneeling Red Cloaks. The once invincible Kingslayer Jaime Lannister, the proud Knight, was like an island in the ocean, his loyal subordinates still trying their best to find a way out for Jaime. Gendry charged back and forth, heading towards Jaime at the front of the valley.
"Am I going to lose?" Ser Jaime gave a desolate smile, gripping his gilded sword in a backhand grip, wanting to charge at Gendry. Black, red, gold—these three colors deeply stung him. Targaryen, Baratheon—could he still see their banners now?
"My Lord, if you die here, the Westerlands will have no heir. How would that help the situation? Let us accompany you, and we'll fight our way out together." The loyal Knights around Jaime pleaded. Although Jaime had a bad reputation elsewhere, as the handsome and dashing eldest son of House Lannister, and one of the strongest Knights of his time, the people of the Westerlands still loved him dearly. Even in this situation, some were willing to die for him.
