"I'm going to charge one more time." Jaime roared, then tightened his grip on his gilded sword. "Even if I die, I'll take him with me."
"Think of the Duke's orders. Duke Tywin told you to be patient."
Kingslayer Jaime charged forward recklessly, his Knights only able to follow. Jaime saw the triumphant victor; he was so young, like Jaime himself in his youth, like a sharp and bright sword, freshly forged.
Am I finally old? Jaime wondered. To be so mocked by a young man, and even to die here. Gendry's helmet bore a stag and a red dragon standing side-by-side, the symbols Jaime most hated, and that dazzling golden light reminded him of Robert's mockery, 'What a great Knight.'
"I cannot lose." Jaime roared, wanting to cut down Robert's mockery.
Jaime prayed to the warrior, wishing for the warrior to grant him strength one more time. Some cursed loudly, more begged for mercy, but that was not his choice.
"Kill, let me be the Kingslayer one more time." Jaime swung his gilded sword, a longsword that had once tasted the Mad King's blood. His subordinates had no choice but to accompany Jaime on one more charge, though it was likely a futile act of courage.
Those Red Cloaks who had already surrendered saw Jaime's desperate attack; a small portion, emboldened, rose to charge again, while more timid ones buried their heads in the mud, too ashamed to look at Jaime. Anguy, positioned among the tree trunks, directed the archers to fire their longbows, and many of the charging Red Cloaks fell, hitting the ground with dull thuds.
Gendry also galloped forward, gripping the warhammer in his hand, and the two sides were about to meet in the center of the valley. Gendry was accompanied only by Ser Barristan and a few dozen Gold Cloaks, facing a dozen charging Red Cloaks. They had all pushed too far forward, close to the funnel-shaped mouth of the valley. Everyone vaguely saw the performance below, reflecting the silver river water; it was a bloody spectacle.
Just then, the sound of horns blared from the rear of the valley. The rear of the valley was a wider opening, and it was initially thought that all Red Cloaks had been encircled.
Unexpectedly, a new batch of Red Cloaks cavalry charged into the valley. They carried red lion banners, numbering about three hundred, which even left Jaime and his men at a loss, as they had already deployed most of their cavalry. Where could these cavalry in the camp have come from?
"What's going on?" Bronze Yohn was greatly surprised, but then he reconsidered. The number of forces for this war had been accurately scouted, so it was likely that new cavalry reinforcements had arrived at the main camp in the Riverlands, and they had come to support.
"This is bad." Earl Jason and Earl Jak both looked troubled. They were at the rear of the valley, and Gendry had now become the force to first meet the Lannister reinforcements, and Gendry had few Attendants with him.
"Woo woo woo woo..." The armies at the rear of the valley began to move, intending to aid the Commander-in-Chief at the front.
"Lord Lorch has come to save us."
"Lord Lorch is here." People around Jaime shouted.
"More reinforcements? It's the Lorch family banner." Gendry looked to the rear; another group of Red Cloaks Knights charged in. Besides the lion banner, there was also a black manticore on a red field.
It seemed that due to the death of the Mountain, Tywin was worried about his son and had sent additional cavalry. Tywin's 'mad dog' was loyal to Tywin alone, and besides the Mountain, there was Amory, the Knight who had stabbed Rhaegar's daughter dozens of times.
"Hurry, Young Master, this might be another force sent by Lord Tywin." Jaime's Attendants, upon seeing the Red Cloaks cavalry appearing at the rear, felt a glimmer of hope. Although the numbers were considerable, perhaps they could still escape with Jaime, even if the troops who had come with Jaime were all doomed to perish here.
Jaime's Attendants pushed him, and Jaime came to his senses. It seemed his father not only understood his pride but had also specifically sent some reinforcements. Jaime's Attendants charged forward first, trying to block the charge of Gendry's Gold Cloaks soldiers.
"Thud!" Gendry swung his warhammer, and the Red Cloaks Attendant who blocked him head-on was struck in the head. Blood flowed from under his helmet, and he fell directly. Then Ser Barristan wielded his longsword, also killing a charging attacker.
"Hurry!" The Red Cloaks' faces were covered in mud and blood, showing no joy.
"There are too many people here, Your Highness." Ser Barristan said anxiously, the Old Knight also growing worried. It had been a flawless plan; they had accurately calculated the number of Lannister cavalry, and Jaime had fallen into their net, but they hadn't expected reinforcements.
"Follow me and kill!" Gendry laughed loudly, and the Gold Cloaks showed no intention of retreating; instead, they became the true vanguard.
Kingslayer Jaime Lannister, wielding his gilded sword, also arrived before him. Gendry saw his golden hair, a wound on his head, with blood continuously flowing down one side of his face.
The death of his Attendants bought him some time, but the Kingslayer still charged forward, hating the death of his comrades.
"You too, Ser Barristan?" Jaime saw his former idol, his former colleague.
"Clang!" Gendry's warhammer collided with Jaime's gilded sword. The Kingslayer's sword was as swift as a gale, its blade dancing into a blurred shadow of steel; his speed was astonishing.
