The rain drummed steadily on the umbrella above us as we crossed the wet courtyard, the college buildings looming ahead. Aria stayed close to my side, her free hand occasionally brushing against mine, while the weight of whatever Mrs. Claire needed to tell me hung between us in the stormy air.
"Hey, bro," Michael said as he saw me. He was standing near the entrance of the main building, already grinning like he knew something I didn't.
"Hey. What's happening? What's so urgent?" I asked as Michael was still grinning. The rain had soaked the edges of his jacket, but he looked far too amused for someone waiting in this weather.
"You're gonna serve time, bro," Michael said, his smile widening.
"What the hell? What does that even mean?" I asked as we were now inside the main building. We climbed the stairs so we could get to Mrs. Claire's office. The hallway was quieter than usual because of the heavy rain outside, and our footsteps echoed against the polished floors.
