The laser began whipping around uncontrollably, striking the walls and ceiling before she managed to drag it back toward the target.
"Stop!" Ethan shouted, rushing forward and steadying her from behind before she stumbled.
"Try once more," he said gently, keeping his hands on her shoulders to anchor her. "It's like firing a gun—brace yourself before releasing the shot."
"I can't stop it!" Sharon hissed, forcing her body into balance with Ethan's help, the beams still shaking with excess power.
"Alright, then just release it all into the sphere," he said.
She gritted her teeth and redirected the unstable beam toward the target. After a few seconds, the last of the energy poured out and the light finally faded.
"Phew…" Sharon exhaled, shoulders dropping as the strain disappeared. "That was intense."
Ethan let go of her shoulders and stepped around to face her.
"That was better," he said. "You held the beam longer this time."
Sharon wiped the sweat from her forehead. "Yeah, but I still can't control the direction well. My head moves too much when it fires."
"That's normal for now," Ethan replied. "Your body isn't used to the recoil. We'll work on neck and upper-back control later."
She nodded, breathing steady again.
"So… how much energy did that thing store?" she asked, pointing at the sphere.
Ethan checked his tablet and raised an eyebrow. "Enough to power a small building for a week. And that was just one release."
Sharon blinked. "Seriously?"
"Seriously." He put the tablet away and stretched his arms. "But that also means you need to learn control fast. If you fire like that in public, someone's getting hurt."
Sharon looked down at her hands, then at the sphere. "Yeah. I get it."
Ethan gave her a small nod. "We'll train again tomorrow after court. For now, get some rest. Your eyes need a break."
She rubbed her eyes gently. "They feel warm, not painful… just tired."
"Good. That means no damage," Ethan said. "Go wash up and sleep. I'll shut this place down."
Sharon started walking toward the exit, then paused and looked back at him.
"By the way… should I dye my hair? I doubt I can hide it like this now," she asked, brushing a strand of purple hair behind her ear.
They are no longer glowing now that she have released all her stored energy.
Ethan looked at her and nodded slowly. "Yeah, we'll need a cover story. Let's say I was working on my plasma gun and accidentally did this to you."
He added quietly, "And don't mention the infusion chamber."
"So I'll say you were working on your plasma gun, it went haywire, and that's how I got these powers?" Sharon repeated.
Ethan nodded. "Exactly. And I already have a plasma gun to back up the story."
He opened a drawer in the side cabinet and pulled out a compact device. He aimed it at the energy sphere and fired. A burst of purple plasma shot out and was absorbed instantly.
Sharon nodded, satisfied. "Yeah… with that gun, the story sounds a lot more believable."
"If anyone asks, stick to that line. And I'll show them the gun to prove it," Ethan said as she nodded once more and headed toward the door.
"Fortunately, Slaughterspine plasma is naturally purple," Ethan muttered under his breath as Sharon left. He put the plasma gun—built from Slaughterspine tech—back into the drawer, closed it, yawned once, and finally went to bed as well.
Next morning
Ethan woke up early, washed up, and got ready for court.
When he went to the dining room for breakfast, he saw Sharon already there. He nodded at her and sat down on the chair.
"I already prepared the documents that say you're speaking on Tony's behalf," Sharon told him.
Ethan nodded as a maid placed his breakfast on the table. He began eating.
Storm joined them soon after and started eating as well.
Aria stood nearby, looking over some documents for Sharon.
Being an android, she didn't need to eat—so she simply waited while the others finished.
After everyone was done, they headed out.
They reached the courthouse as the last group to arrive, but still on time. Almost everyone was already seated, except for the main senator in charge of the hearing—who walked in five minutes later.
A staff member guided them to their seats. Ethan sat beside Sharon, with Storm and Aria sitting just behind them.
The room slowly quieted down as the senator took his place at the center.
He adjusted his glasses and looked around the courtroom.
"Alright," he said in a firm voice. "Let's begin. Today we are discussing the issue of Stark technology." He glanced toward Tony Stark, who was seated in the front row with his lawyers.
"The Iron Man technology, as Mr. Stark refers to it," the senator continued, tapping his pen lightly against the desk, " We will review whether such technology should remain in a single person's hands or be made available to the U.S. military."
The senator gestured toward the front. "Mr. Hammer, you will present first. Your argument is in favor of releasing the technology to the U.S. military?"
Justin Hammer rose, adjusting his suit. "Yes, Senator. Stark's technology is revolutionary. Keeping it in one individual's hands is risky. With proper oversight, the military could use it to protect the nation and prevent future threats."
"Actually, we do not doubt that Mr. Stark will use his technology responsibly, but can we be certain of that?" he added, looking toward the senator and nodding confidently.
"Hammer Tech has the resources to ensure this is done safely and efficiently," Justin continued. "We can mass-produce the suits and equip the U.S. military, aiding in keeping our nation safe and prosperous."
"That's a good mindset, Mr. Hammer," the senator said, nodding.
The senator then turned slightly. "Mr. Ethan Cliff, Miss Sharon Carter, you will present your position on why such technology should not be released to the U.S. military and remain under the control of a single individual."
