Chapter 97 - Threads of Command

The halls of the castle were silent, yet the air vibrated with something alive beneath the stone. I stepped lightly, bare feet brushing the cold floors, and the silver water that had gathered in the cracks of the hall rose, forming delicate arcs around my ankles.

Yes, the voice whispered in my mind, calm, patient, like ice sliding over glass. Feel it. Move it.

I hesitated. My fingers twitched, uncertain, and the water responded instantly. It curled, stretched, and followed the smallest motion of my hand, like it anticipated my intent. My pulse thrummed faster, but there was no fear—only a thrilling, cold clarity.

I tried something bolder. With a thought, I directed the threads toward a broken chair in the corner. It lifted slowly, wobbling, then floated steadily above the floor. A shiver ran through me—not from the strain, but from recognition. I can do this. I can move things… control them.

More than objects, the voice murmured, almost coaxing. The city listens. The streets, the stone, the water—they are yours to guide. Do you understand?

I nodded, though the voice did not need my answer. Every step I took left a ripple of power beneath my feet. Tiles straightened, cracks mended slightly, dust swirled back into neat piles as though unseen hands were tidying after me.

I raised my hand again, letting the water spiral upward. It followed instinctively, coiling like a serpent of silver, linking to the cracks in the distant hallway, the faintest veins of the city outside.

Good, the voice said softly. You are learning. Soon, you will move beyond this. Soon, the city will breathe with you, as part of you.

I allowed a small smile to touch my lips. This was different from fear, from survival. It was command. It was presence. And yet… I could feel the system—not fully revealed, not fully awake—lingering, watching, threading through me.

Patience, it whispered again. I am here. Always. But you must claim each step yourself.

I exhaled slowly, letting the crown press heavier on my head. The threads of water and stone bent to my will now—not completely, not perfectly, but enough to prove something vital. I was not just Soraen, the city's heir. I was becoming something more.

Something the city, and the system, had both been waiting for.

And for the first time, I realized I could reach farther than the castle, farther than the streets I had walked so carefully. I could shape the very pulse of the city—and nothing would resist me if I chose to act.

The silver water rose higher, spinning in controlled spirals. My heartbeat matched its rhythm, echoing faintly across the cold stone.

I had begun my reign.
