Konohagakure no Sato :
The Hokage Office :
The Hokage's office was suffocatingly tight, packed not just with paper, but with the heaviest hitters in the village. The Chunin Exams always brought a mountain of administrative nightmares, but with the influx of foreign shinobi, the tension in the room was palpable.
( Ugh , So much Paperwork .....My Back )
Hiruzen Sarutobi sat at his desk, methodically signing off on intelligence reports. To manage the chaos, he wasn't alone. His old teammates, the elders Homura and Koharu, were present. Tsunade was leaning over her Hokage, helping her old sensei sift through the mess, while Shikaku Nara, the Jonin Commander, was buried in deployment logistics.
( .......Yeah , All should suffer from paperwork )
Homura was muttering over merchant disputes, Koharu was cross-referencing Police Force patrols, and Shikaku was trying to figure out how to stretch their active Jonin roster without leaving the borders exposed.
( ...So Troublesome )
In the middle of this tense, low-whisper environment, a sharp knock broke the rhythm.
"…Come in," Hiruzen called out, not looking up.
The heavy wooden door creaked open, and Hatake Kakashi stepped inside. He had his usual lazy slouch, his hands buried deep in his pockets, but every veteran in the room instantly noticed the difference in the air around him. The posture was a lie. The man wasTensed .
Tsunade narrowed her eyes, immediately spotting the biggest anomaly.
( Where the hell is his stupid orange book?)
Kakashi stopped in front of the desk, his visible eye sweeping over the assembled leadership.
"Hokage-sama. Elders. Tsuna—"
"Enough," Tsunade cut him off, her voice sharp. "What's the matter, Kakashi? "
Kakashi didn't argue. He reached into his pouch and pulled out a small, unsealed scroll. He stepped forward and placed it directly onto the Hokage's desk, right over the paperwork Hiruzen was currently signing.
Hiruzen finally looked up, setting his pen down. He picked up the scroll, his old eyes tired but curious. "And this is?"
"…After the written exam today, Naruto tracked me down," Kakashi said, his voice completely stripped of its usual drawl. "He handed me this. He asked me to deliver it to you… personally and immediately."
The scratching of pens and the shuffling of papers in the room stopped entirely.
"Uzumaki Naruto…?" Koharu asked, her brow furrowing.
"…You mean the Jinchu—" Homura started.
"Cough. It's Naruto, Homura," Hiruzen corrected sharply, giving the elder a warning glare.
"What is the brat up to now?" Tsunade asked, pushing off the wall and walking closer. "Did he mention anything to you about what's in it, Kakashi?"
" Yeah , Did he tell you what he wrote ? "
Kakashi felt the weight of their stares. Koharu's recognition, Homura's outdated prejudices, Hiruzen's protective correction, Tsunade's curiosity, and finally, Shikaku's silent, piercing gaze—a silent demand to know if Kakashi had read his own student's intelligence report.
Kakashi exhaled a slow breath. "I've read it, Shikaku-san. Yes, Naruto told me the contents before he wrote it down. But… it would be better if you all read it yourselves. It's… disturbing."
"..."
"Disturbing?" Shikaku repeated, his lazy demeanor vanishing.
"What could possibly stump you like this, Kakashi?" Tsunade demanded.
"Honestly? Even I was skeptical at first," Kakashi admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. "But once you read his breakdown… you'll understand."
Hiruzen didn't waste another second. He formed a single hand seal.
[ Shadow Shuriken Jutsu ] Divergent variant.
He tapped the scroll, and with a puff of smoke, four perfect copies materialized. He slid them across the desk to the elders, Tsunade, and Shikaku.
They unrolled the scrolls in unison.
The first section was entirely dedicated to Yakushi Kabuto. It detailed his "friendly" approach, his info-cards, and his exact interactions with the Rookies, the Sand, and the Sound Genin.
Homura scoffed quietly. "Is this it? The boy thinks a Genin sharing information makes him a spy? Is Naruto being hasty? Some sort of petty retaliation?"
"The kid isn't like that," Tsunade shot back, her eyes scanning the text. "He won't waste time on nonsense."
Hiruzen remained silent. Forty years in the seat of Hokage had taught him to read the whole report before speaking.
As they read further, the skepticism in the room evaporated, replaced by a chilling realization.
Naruto hadn't just made a guess. He had provided a forensic, anatomical, and psychological deconstruction of Kabuto. He detailed the emotional Intent of Chakra sensed through Kagura's Mind Eye.
He broke down Kabuto's center of gravity, the hidden weights, the microscopic callouses, and the physiological signs of advanced Yang Release. He deduced that Kabuto possessed a Jonin-level physique masquerading as a four-time Chunin Exam failure.
The elders shifted uncomfortably in their seats.
(The more I read, the more impressed—and terrified—I become,) Homura thought, gripping the edges of the scroll.
(As expected of the Fourth's legacy,) Koharu noted grimly.
Tsunade's eyes were wide and she was impressed ,She had performed countless autopsies, but to use medical jutsu theory to strip a living spy bare from meters away?
(To use medical knowledge like this… as a weapon of observation? That brat…!)
Shikaku, however, was focused on the tactical implications. He read the final hypothesis Naruto had written at the bottom of the Kabuto section:
[Target actively approached Clan Heirs and hostile foreign shinobi. Deduction: Gaining trust/Establishing contact? Furthermore, Target tracked Team 7 from the building entrance to the exam room. Kagura's Mind Eye confirms Target was specifically focusing on Uchiha Sasuke prior to engagement.......even before entering the building ]
Shikaku let out a heavy sigh, rubbing his temples with his one good hand.
(Why are Chunin Exams always such a massive headache? A four-year failure who is actually a Jonin-level spy, actively targeting the Uchiha and the Clan Heirs...)
Just as Shikaku was about to speak, a sharp, ragged intake of breath echoed through the room.
It was the Hokage.
Hiruzen had lowered his scroll, his face entirely drained of color. He looked up at Kakashi, his voice trembling slightly. "…Kakashi. Is this true?"
"Naruto wrote exactly what he sensed," Kakashi replied, his tone grave. "And if there is anyone in this village who can recognize that specific signature... it's him."
Hiruzen closed his eyes. Slowly, with slow hands, he opened his desk drawer, pulled out his tobacco pipe, and began packing it.
The room froze. Tsunade had explicitly threatened to demolish the Hokage Tower if Hiruzen smoked in her presence, and he hadn't touched the pipe in weeks. For him to light it now, right in front of her, meant something was wrong.
"Sensei…?" Tsunade asked, her voice tight with sudden worry.
(What the hell could make him react like this? A Jonin spy is bad, but not 'Third Hokage panicking' bad.)
Hiruzen struck a match, the flare illuminating the deep lines on his face. "Keep reading," he ordered softly. "And you will understand."
The others scrambled to unroll the rest of the scroll. They hit the second heading.
[Possible Jinchuriki: Gaara of the Sand]
Homura violently shoved his chair back, standing up. Tsunade sucked in a sharp breath. Koharu's face went ashen, and Shikaku simply dropped the scroll from his only remainning hand .
"Absurd!" Homura snapped, his voice echoing off the walls. "
Does the Sand Village have any idea what it means to send a Jinchuriki into another Great Village?!"
"Maybe it's just the boy's speculation!" Koharu offered, though she sounded desperate.
"Keep reading," Hiruzen commanded again, blowing a thick cloud of smoke toward the ceiling.
They read the rest. Naruto detailed the dense, suffocating, and distinctly bijuu-laced chakra signature radiating from the red-haired boy. The evidence was overwhelming.
For twenty minutes, the only sound in the office was the rustle of paper and the heavy, ragged breathing of the village leadership. When they finally finished, all eyes turned to the Hokage. Hiruzen was staring out the window at the village below. The midday sun was shining, but his eyes were dark as storm clouds.
When he finally turned back, the exhaustion was gone, replaced by cold, hardened steel.
"Maybe Naruto was mistaken," Homura tried again, though he didn't believe it. "No one is stupid enough to send their ultimate weapon into an allied village for an exam."
"Homura, don't be a fool," Koharu snapped. "Naruto possesses the same Kagura's Mind Eye as Mito-sama did. And he is a Jinchuriki. If he says the Sand boy is carrying a beast, it is a ninety percent certainty."
"And if Gaara really is a Jinchuriki," Shikaku interjected, his mind already spinning through worst-case scenarios, "the real question is: why did the Sand explicitly hide this from us?"
"Without Naruto's sensory abilities," Kakashi added grimly, "I don't think anyone in the village would have realized what Gaara was until it was too late."
Tsunade slammed her the scroll on the desk. "The kid doesn't talk nonsense. The Sand is up to something. And considering they snuck a Jinchuriki past our gates..."
Hiruzen finished the thought, speaking the one word no one wanted to hear.
"War."
The office went graveyard silent. In the shadows, the hidden ANBU guards instinctively tightened their grips on their weapons. The implications were devastating.
Shikaku broke the silence, his voice tight.
"Let's compartmentalize. We handle the spy first. As for the hostile Jinchuriki... we need to convene a full Jonin Council tonight."
The room nodded in grim agreement.
"Bring me Yakushi Kabuto's file," Hiruzen ordered the shadows.
An ANBU flickered into existence, dropped a file on the desk, and vanished. They tore through Kabuto's history.
"An orphan picked up after the Battle of Kikyo Pass," Shikaku read, his eyes scanning the timelines.
"There are gaps here. Months missing from his service record," Koharu pointed out.
"His file says he was posted at the border, but there are no corresponding supply requisitions," Homura noted.
" Surname Yakushi .......and a spy "
"Is he related to the wandering miko, Nonou Yakushi?"
"This reeks of Danzo-sama's handiwork," Kakashi whispered from the rafters.
"Four failed Chunin Exams," Tsunade scoffed. "If we hadn't read Naruto's Report , we'd never look twice at this kid."
"He's specifically targeting the Uchiha, and now the Clan Heirs," Shikaku said. "And sharing intel with foreign Genin. He's a massive liability."
"Shikaku," Hiruzen said, his voice cutting through the chatter.
"Yes, Hokage-sama."
"Summon the Clan Leaders immediately. Specifically, the ones whose children are currently in the Forest of Death. This concerns their heirs directly."
"Understood." Shikaku immediately began drafting summons.
"Wait," Tsunade interjected, pacing the floor. "What if Kabuto's target isn't Sasuke at all? What if Sasuke is just a smokescreen?"
"What are you getting at, Tsuna?" Koharu asked.
"What if the Sand and Kabuto are connected?" Kakashi looked at Hiruzen.
Shikaku continued "What if the real target is our Jinchuriki? They might be going after Naruto."
"Should we pull Team 7 out? Or increase his guard detail?" Homura asked anxiously.
"The village's forces are already stretched thin," Shikaku argued. "If we mobilize a massive guard for Naruto now, the Sand will know we're onto them."
"Besides," Tsunade added, "Naruto has already mastered the Hiraishin. If real trouble hits, he can teleport himself and his team to safety instantly."
" Tsunade sama is right," Shikakau agreed. " Naruto Invites his Guards to dinner time to time , so Knowing Naruto ,Sending extra guards might just be a burden "
"That's just his Will of Fire," Hiruzen said, a faint, sad smile touching his lips.
"What if he stays behind to cover Sasuke and Sakura's retreat?" Homura argued. "With his personality, he might get himself killed playing the hero."
"No. Naruto is rational," Shikaku countered. "He will retreat "
Kakashi spoke " But he won't leave his team. We need a compromise."
"Hokage-sama, let me enter the forest," Kakashi requested, stepping forward. "Let me act as Team 7's shadow guard."
"No, Kakashi," Hiruzen rejected the idea instantly. "With the Sand mobilizing and the threat of war looming, I need you out here. I need my best men preparing the village defenses."
"The Hokage is right," Tsunade agreed. "Believe in your brat a little, Kakashi. He'll keep his team safe. We need you here for the storm that's coming."
Kakashi clenched his jaw, but nodded. "…Understood, Hokage-sama."
"We will allow the Clan Leaders to dispatch their own covert guards for their heirs inside the forest," Koharu suggested. "That frees up village resources."
"Agreed," Hiruzen said. "But strict rules apply. They are only there to observe and protect their specific heir in the event of a Jonin-level threat. They are not to interfere in the Genin-level exam under any circumstances."
A knock came at the door. "Hokage-sama, the Clan Leaders have arrived."
Hiruzen took a deep drag from his pipe, the embers burning bright red. "Bring them in. We have a long night ahead of us."
That night, the Hokage Tower did not sleep. A full Jonin Council was convened later at night , and Konoha quietly began preparing for the possibility of a war they hadn't seen coming.

The Next Day :
Forest Of Death :
[ RESTRICTED AREA: DO NOT ENTER ]
The crisp October morning wind blew across the clearing, rustling the tall grass, but none of the Genin gathered outside the massive metal fencing were in the mood to appreciate the weather. The sheer scale of the forest behind the chain-link barrier was suffocating. The trees weren't just taller; their trunks were unnaturally wide, the bark thick like armored plating, and the canopy above was so dense it choked out the sunlight. The ambient chakra radiating from the flora and fauna inside felt heavy, wild, and openly hostile.
Standing before the imposing gates, the applicants listened to their chaotic new proctor.
"This is the site of the second exam, the 44th Training Ground," Anko announced, a wicked grin stretching across her face.
"Also known as... the Forest of Death!"
Naruto stood near the back, utilizing his MindHub skill. He let one thread of his Mind Partition listen to Anko's speech about the consent forms, while the rest of his focus swept the environment. The vegetation inside the fence was aggressively overgrown, likely mutated by generations of specialized chakra exposure.
( Now where are you ?? )
As his eyes flickered over the other applicants, his passive sensory skills suddenly spiked.
*Swish!*
A kunai blurred through the air, aimed squarely at his face from the front. While Sasuke and Sakura flinched, instantly going on high alert, Naruto didn't even blink. , he casually tilted his head a fraction of an inch.
The blade whistled past his ear, cutting a few stray blonde hairs. Without looking back, Naruto took two precise steps to the right and one step back, slipping perfectly into the blind spot of the proctor who had just materialized behind him.
"Huh?" Anko blinked, suddenly finding her target standing casually at her back. "...Not bad, kid."
"Thank you, Sis," Naruto replied dryly.
Anko snorted, turning around to look him dead in the eye. "Hmph. Is my explanation boring, kiddo? Or are there other interesting things around here instead of the Chunin Exams?"
"...Signing consent forms, right? No problem," Naruto said, keeping his expression flat.
"Don't get distracted and die out there, kid," Anko warned with a dangerous smirk. She spun on her heel, marching back to the front to resume her lecture.
Naruto loistened as Anko broke down the mechanics of the test: the Heaven and Earth scrolls, the all-out battle royale, the brutal survival conditions, the poisonous bugs, and the lethal predators that called the forest home.
"Except for collecting the scrolls for qualification, moving on to the conditions for disqualification," Anko shouted, raising her fingers.
"Number one: If all three members of the team can't make it to the central tower. Number two: If a team loses a member, or if a member becomes incapacitated. And most importantly... you absolutely do not look at the contents of the scrolls until you have reached the tower!"
A heavy silence fell over the Genin.
" why ?? "
" Is this test ?? "
"There are times when a Chunin has to deal with super-secret text or intelligence. This is also a test of your reliability. That's all. Now, exchange your three signed consent forms for one of the scrolls at that hut over there." She pointed to a reinforced booth where several examiners were waiting.
"After that, pick your entrance gate. All the gates will open thirty minutes from now, simultaneously. Just so you guys know." Anko took a breath, her eyes sweeping the tense crowd.
"Finally, a word of advice... DON'T DIE."
As Anko headed toward the hut, the Genin dispersed to regroup with their squads. Naruto scanned the competition. The age range was wild—Most were around twelve to eighteen, making up about 70% of the crowd, while others looked like bitter, middle-aged veterans. But regardless of age or apparent strength, the atmosphere had shifted. The hesitation from the written exam was gone.
( Strong or not , Ibiki's exam make sure that all presnet now are determined ,) Naruto thought, observing the tight grips on kunai pouches and the shifting stances.
( This also means .....Once they're inside, they'll all go for the kill with all that resolve , The two-scroll system practically forces them to.)
Suddenly, his eyes locked onto a strange kunoichi from the Grass Village, identifiable by the thick purple rope ribbon tied around her waist. Naruto didn't stare for long, letting his gaze drift past her naturally, but beneath the surface, his Kagura's Mind Eye and Hound Senses flared to maximum output, logging her signature.
(...No smell. None at all. And this chakra... it's not snaky or explicitly poisonous, but... it's slimy. Disgusting. Like stagnant, rotting water.)
"Naruto, come on! I got the forms."
Sakura's voice broke his concentration. She jogged over, Sasuke trailing close behind her.
"Oh. Thanks, Sakura," Naruto said, taking his copy.
"Hehe, no problem. Let's fill them out now."
"Hm."
Team 7 found a quiet spot under the shade of a large tree and got to work. After quickly signing away his life, Naruto paused, watching his teammates finish theirs.
( 12 year old kids ...ready to stake their life .......what was i doing in my previous life at 12 years age ? )
Shaking his head ,Naruto reached into his gear, tapping a localized unsealing array on a storage scroll, and pulled out two matching black-and-silver tactical knives, both locked in reinforced sheaths.
The brief flare of chakra caught Sasuke and Sakura's attention. They looked up to see Naruto holding the weapons out to them.
"I made a new seal," Naruto explained quietly, his voice pitched so only they could hear. "If you channel a pulse of chakra into the guard, I will receive a directional message over a long distance. Keep it on you, Use it in case we get separated."
He pushed the knives forward. Sasuke and Sakura exchanged a surprised look, but given Naruto's recent track record with sealing, they didn't argue.
They took the blades, sliding them from their sheaths. The metal was matte black to prevent glare, perfectly balanced, with a striking red, burning sun symbol etched directly into the steel near the guard.
"Ohh," Sakura Awed , tracing the sun symbol.
"..." Sasuke tested the grip, finding it perfectly molded for standard tactical strikes.
Seeing their silent approval, Naruto continued, "Shikamaru, Ino, Hinata, and the others in our graduating class have the same blade, too."
Sasuke frowned, looking up. "Eh? Why?"
"..."
"Just because it's an exam, and even if everyone here is competition, it doesn't mean we are enemies," Naruto said firmly. "Don't forget, we are from the same village. We were together in the same class for six years. Fighting or not... we need to remember there are real enemies out there from other villages."
"...Oh," Sakura muttered, looking down at the blade with a new sense of weight.
"But what if we have to fight them for a scroll?" Sasuke challenged, his eyes narrowing.
"Then of course we fight, Sasuke. But not to the death. Especially not with real enemies lurking around."
"Naruto is right," Sakura agreed, tapping her chin. "We might even need to make an alliance later."
"Hmph," Sasuke scoffed, sliding the blade into his hip pouch. "With our team's strength, an alliance will only be a burden."
"Alright, let me tell you the exact way to trigger the seal " Naruto said, ignoring the Uchiha's arrogance.
He spent the next five minutes detailing the mechanical execution of the chakra pulse required to activate the sun marker. Once he was sure they understood, he stood up and jogged over to Team 8.
"Yo, what are you doing here?" Kiba barked, crossing his arms as Naruto approached. Hinata immediately felt her face burning up, staring at the ground, while Shino stood in stoic silence.
"Well, I just came over to remind you about the emergency seal," Naruto said casually.
"...Arrh, you mean the blade." Kiba reached back, drawing the black-and-silver knife from his gear. Hinata nervously touched the hilt of hers through her jacket, and Shino adjusted his glasses.
"Yeah, that," Naruto confirmed. "If real trouble comes, don't hesitate to use it."
"You damn orange!" Kiba flared up, his canine teeth bared. "Do you think we would need your help? Haaa!"
" Woof ..!! "
Naruto completely ignored Kiba's outburst, turning his back to him, and looked directly at the Aburame. "I am counting on you, Shino. Kiba is hotheaded, and Hinata is shy and hesitant. If the situation demands it, make sure you trigger it. I will be there as fast as possible."
"...Haaann?! What do you mean?! Ehh, say it to my face, you asshole!" Kiba yelled, waving his arms with Akamaru
"...N-Naruto-kun," Hinata squeaked, her face practically glowing red.
Naruto ignored them both. He looked seriously into Shino's dark lenses. Shino held his gaze for a long moment, reading the absolute seriousness in the blonde's posture.
"...Don't worry," Shino finally replied, his voice a low drone. "If we cannot handle it, I will give the call instantly."
Naruto nodded in satisfaction and walked off toward Team 10. Ino pointedly ignored him, Choji was hyper-focused on inhaling his last bag of BBQ chips before entering the forest, so Naruto relayed the exact same tactical warning to Shikamaru.
After that, he tracked down Team Hattori. Gian was just as loud and aggressive as Kiba, and Shizuka was entirely too pink and silent for Naruto to handle without feeling awkward, so he spoke directly to Karin, ensuring she understood the mechanics of the distress call.
After Hesitating a Little , Naruto headed to Team Guy too , Neji and Ten-Ten became tensed , but Naruto simply focused on his friend Lee , He didn't shy away to tell Team Guy about the seal .
Naruto also made Lee promise to use that seal in emergency , ignoring Neji's scoffing and Ten-Ten's curioisity , Ten-Ten seems impressed about the Blade though , totally forgetting about it's usage .
( Hope everything Goes well )
With his network secure, Naruto headed back to his own squad. Sasuke gave a sharp nod and used standard ANBU hand signals to communicate that he had already secured their team's scroll in a hidden pocket inside his gear.
Naruto pulled a silver pocket watch from his jacket, flipping the lid open.
(Only ten minutes left.)
He snapped the watch shut and let his Kagura's Mind Eye expand outward, sweeping the perimeter of the clearing and the tree lines behind the fences.
(...Hmm. All the Konoha Rookies have one covert guard team positioned in the trees near their assigned gates. Even Team Guy has watchers. It seems the Hokage took my report about Kabuto and Gaara very seriously.)
Naruto felt a grim sense of validation. The effort he had put into formatting that granular, medically accurate intelligence report had paid off. If he had just marched into the Hokage's office and spouted vague warnings like some reckless Reincarnator , claiming "gut feelings," Shikaku and the elders would have doubted and wouldn't have taken it seriously , maybe act on it , but not seriously .
But cold, hard data? That moved armies.
Naruto refined his sensory sweep, locating the specific chakra signatures assigned to his own squad.
(Hmm. Yugao-nee and her usual squad are gone. In their place, they've stationed two incredibly solid veteran Jonin.)
Naruto's mind flashed back to the dead of night, just a few hours ago, when Kakashi had materialized in his apartment window to deliver the village's classified orders.
"When you run into undeniable trouble... you retreat using the Hiraishin," Kakashi had ordered, his visible eye devoid of any warmth.
"The Jonin shadows can take care of themselves. And Naruto... if the situation is catastrophic, and the village's primary asset is threatened....... you are authorized to ditch Sasuke and Sakura to ensure your own survival."
Kakashi was delivering the cold calculus of the Konoha Council. As a Jinchuriki, Naruto was too valuable to lose to a rogue Sand weapon or a hidden Jonin spy. Kakashi, as their sensei, had quietly added his own plea to just "keep them safe," but the official orders were absolute.
Soon Team 7 Headed to their own assigned gate , a Proctor ready to open The gate.
"ALRIGHT...!!!" Anko's voice blasted through the loudspeakers, shattering the tension. "We will now start the second test of the Chunin Exams!"
With a synchronized, deafening groan of ungreased metal, All the entrance gates of the 44th Training Ground swung open. Team 7 stepped through the threshold, plunging into the dark, oppressive canopy.
The Forest of Death had begun.
