Chapter 172 - Chunin Exams # 31

Konohagakure No Sato: Forest Of Death (Exit)

The heavy steel gates of the Forest of Death groaned as they swung open, letting out the surviving Genin squads and their proctors. The tense atmosphere of the battleground immediately gave way to a chaotic logistics operation.

( .....finally Out )

Naruto stood by the exit, watching as Tsunade-nee took charge, heading straight toward the Konoha Hospital with a massive, trailing caravan of the wounded following right in her wake.

( ....so many Injured )

This wasn't just a handful of injured Genin; it felt like a walking casualty ward. Team 8 was tightly grouped behind Tsunade, with Shino carrying Kiba on his back. Even though their immediate field injuries had been stabilized, they were a long way from fully healed.

The situation was just as bleak for Team 10. Choji was pale, completely out of commission on a stretcher, while Shikamaru looked practically hollowed out from extreme exhaustion and the wound on his thigh , Both of them clearly needed to be admitted into serious, long-term care immediately.

Right alongside them was Team Guy. Tenten was a walking map of bandages like some Mummy , dealing with non-serious but incredibly numerous lacerations and heavy blood loss. Meanwhile, Lee was in a completely shattered & Unconsious state after forcing his body through the 5th Gate. Both of them required constant, round-the-clock observation.

( .....that's why 8 gates is forbidden Technique )

Thinking back to the brutal state Shizuka and Gian were in, Naruto let his gaze wander over his own squad. A dark, ironic thought drifted through his mind.

(....To think Team 7 is actually the least physically broken team from Konoha right now.)

The second that thought registered, the reality of their own situation caught up to him. His own shoulder bone was cracked, and Sasuke was carrying a literal ticking time bomb of a Curse Seal on his neck—a mark that flared with agonizing pain the moment he even tried to cycle his chakra.

Then there was the third member of Team 7. Naruto glanced over at Sakura, who was "injured" in an entirely different, psychological way. Her head was hanging as low as it could go, her eyes completely vacant.

She was moving like a literal walking zombie. Ever since she'd re-joined the group, she hadn't uttered a single word or shown a spark of life. Sasuke, true to form, completely ignored the pink-haired girl's existence.

( actually , I think Sasuke likes this version Of Sakura more )

Naruto also kept his mouth shut, considering the absolute circus of a show , he had just pulled with Ino during the matches.

Even Kakashi seemed entirely buried in his own thoughts. Aside from speaking out standard, functional orders to the squad, he hadn't made any attempt to pull Sakura aside or speak to her on a personal level.

(....Maybe Kakashi is just trying to give Sakura some breathing room before the inevitable 'Talk',) Naruto mused.

Suddenly, Naruto felt a sharp prickle of awareness like someone watching him . He looked off to the side and caught Team Sand moving in a tight, formation, quickly disappearing into the civilian streets. Just before they vanished, Temari's eyes locked onto his through the crowd.

(Yeah, Team Sand is definitely the least injured squad out of the whole bunch.)

Shaking his head to clear the clutter, Naruto decided it was time to head home. He cracked his neck, looked over at his sensei, and broke the silence. "Should we head to hospital too ?"

Kakashi snapped out of his internal calculations, his lone visible eye shifting down to Naruto. After a brief pause, he gave a slow nod. "Hmm. Except for Sasuke, Team 7 is officially dismissed."

Hearing his name singled out, Sasuke's head snapped up, his dark eyes fixing Kakashi with a , questioning glare.

Kakashi didn't flinch. He simply tapped his own neck, subtly pointing to where the dark mark was burned into Sasuke's skin. "For now, you're staying in the hospital for some mandatory check-ups. The Hokage-sama is exceptionally interested in that little souvenir."

Sasuke's hand instinctively flew to his neck. His jaw tightened, and he opened his mouth to grumble, ready to bark out that a stupid bruise wasn't going to stop him. But before the words could leave his throat, a sudden, violent flux of chakra pain ripped through his nervous system, freezing him in his tracks. Still, Sasuke was an avenger. His mind wasn't occupied by medical safety; it was hyper-focused on power.

"But I need to prepare for the finals," Sasuke growled, his voice low and competitive. "Especially against Gaara."

"Don't worry, the evaluations won't take more than two or three days," Kakashi replied smoothly, his tone leaving zero room for argument. "Trust me, that thing on your neck is a much bigger deal than a final match."

Sasuke let out a frustrated grunt, clearly hating the restriction. Seeing the broody Uchiha thoroughly shut down, Naruto decided to check out. "Then I'm heading home. I'll drop by and visit you tomorrow, Sasuke."

Sasuke gave a curt grunt and a sharp nod, acknowledging the blonde. Kakashi gave an appreciative nod of his own as he guided Sasuke forward, falling into the long line of patients marching toward the medical wing.

It didn't take long for Kakashi to notice something tracking them. He tilted his head slightly, his eye scanning the perimeter. There she was. The third Genin of Team 7 was actively ignoring the direct dispersal order, silently trailing Sasuke toward the hospital like a shadow.

Kakashi's eye twitched, a heavy wave of worry settling deep in his chest.

(It's exactly like Naruto said.... She's completely obsessed over Sasuke.)

He studied Sakura's hollow expression again. It hadn't even been six hours since her brutal reality check against Yamanaka Ino, yet here she was, subconsciously operating on pure, unadulterated instinct—entirely consumed by her fixation on the Uchiha.

Kakashi looked back ahead at Sasuke. The boy was walking with a rigid, cold posture, completely filtering Sakura out of his reality as if she were a ghost. If Kakashi were a normal, naive shinobi or Captain , he might have been happy to see a teammate showing so much care, and he might have told Sasuke to cherish the girl's devotion.

But after hearing Naruto's breakdown earlier today, and watching the actual toxic dynamic play out between them, Kakashi was deeply unsettled.

He vividly remembered the moment they were preparing to leave the central tower. When he had gone to fetch Sakura, she was completely unresponsive. She barely spoke. But the absolute second he mentioned that Naruto and Sasuke were waiting for her, a sudden jolt of energy had reanimated her body.

(.....In her ears, she only heard that Sasuke was waiting for her. Nothing else mattered.)

The sheer weight of the impending team drama was already giving Kakashi a massive headache. But at least they were heading to a hospital and he can also fetch any medicine useful forthis headache .

Attempting to distract himself, Kakashi shifted his gaze to the other presence walking right beside them—or rather, the person closely flanking Sasuke.

(....Anko.)

Walking in lockstep with them was the Special Jonin, Mitarashi Anko. Tsunade had explicitly ordered her to pull 24/7 guard duty on Uchiha Sasuke. She wasn't just there as a shield in case Orochimaru tried to slide back into the village or focus on Sasuke

No , Anko was there to help the kid cope with the agonizing mechanics of the Cursed seal. In this specific, dark field, Anko was Sasuke's ultimate senpai.

The towering white facade of the Konoha Hospital finally came into view. Stepping through the sliding doors, the group walked straight into the bustling administration area, where Tsunade herself was already standing, reviewing charts.

Seeing Kakashi arrive with his small entourage, Tsunade's amber eyes locked onto Sasuke. She didn't waste any words on pleasantries.

"Shizune, take Uchiha Sasuke to the VIP ward and get the isolation arrangements sorted immediately," Tsunade commanded.

Sasuke's eyes narrowed. He opened his mouth, fully planning to question the legendary Sannin about the exact medical timeline and why he was being locked away. But just as the words formed, a vivid memory flashed in his mind—specifically, the memory of the terrifying Slug Sannin effortlessly slugging him into the dirt just yesterday.

(Forget it. I'll just ask through Kakashi.) Choosing survival over pride, Sasuke kept his mouth shut and silently followed Shizune, with Anko trailing right behind them like a lethal, trench-coat-wearing shadow.

As Sasuke disappeared down the corridor, Tsunade turned her gaze back to Kakashi and the lingering pink-haired girl. Tsunade didn't bother saying a single word to Sakura. To a legendary medic and warrior like her, the girl was just a kid. The responsibility of correcting a Genin's mentality fell entirely on the team's Jonin leader, not her. Making critical comments right in front of Kakashi would be unprofessional.

Breaking the heavy silence, Kakashi stepped forward. "Tsunade-sama."

"Hm?"

"How much time is Sasuke's treatment actually going to take?" Kakashi asked, getting straight to the point.

Tsunade paused, pondering the question. As she did, she couldn't help but notice Sakura staring up at her, her eyes suddenly filled with a bizarre, desperate intensity.

(...This one is really something else,) Tsunade thought, mentally sighing at the sheer emotional baggage radiating off the kid.

Shaking her head to dismiss the thoughts, Tsunade looked Kakashi dead in the eye. "The real issue is the mark itself. But don't worry, it won't take more than three days. After all, the village has been actively researching that exact seal through Anko for years, and we still haven't figured out a damn thing about its true core."

Kakashi gave a respectful bow. "Understood. Thank you, Tsunade-sama."

"Hmm. Oh, and make sure you go report the full details to the Old Man, IMMEDIATELY " Tsunade added casually, waving a hand over her shoulder as she turned and walked away to tend to the other casualties.

( ....After this , I will question that Brat )

Kakashi watched the Sannin's retreating back for a brief moment, letting the technical data sink in. Then, he slowly turned his head toward his remaining student. His expression was serious.

"Sakura."

"...Yes, Sensei?" she replied, her voice barely a whisper.

"Go home and rest."

"....But Sasuke-kun—"

Hearing the immediate deflection, Kakashi's face hardened noticeably. The soft, easy-going persona vanished, replaced by the firm authority of a veteran captain. He cut her off cleanly.

"Sakura."

".....Yes."

"You can visit Sasuke later." Kakashi ordered, punctuating each word with absolute finality. "Go home..... and... rest "

Sakura flinched slightly under the weight of his gaze. her shoulders slumped as she replied while looking down "Yes, Sensei."

" hm "

---------------------------------------------------------------

Konoha Streets :

Naruto walked down the familiar streets of Konoha with slow, heavy steps. Those three days spent inside the Forest of Death for the second phase of the exams had honestly felt like three damn months.

Navigating a lethal Death-match against a legendary freak like Orochimaru had drained his mental battery more than he cared to admit, putting his stress levels through the roof.

( ...At last I pulled through )

Even now, as Naruto strolled through the village, his MindHub was still firing on all cylinders, already drawing up blueprints and contingencies for the Chunin Exam finals. But the second the outer walls of his home came into view, the knot in his chest finally loosened

( ....hope they are all doing well )

Naruto pushed the gate open, stepping into his own personal sanctuary, and instantly felt the tension bleed out of his shoulders.

The first one to greet him wasn't Simba or the ravens, but actually Sadako, which caught him a bit off guard.

The black owl swooped down from her perch, landing squarely on top of Naruto's head. She dug her sharp claws just a little deeper than necessary into his scalp, making her presence very known.

(.....*sigh*... What a total tsundere,) Naruto thought, wincing slightly.

( Is she seriously punishing me for making her worry with those talons? )

As Naruto walked further into the house, Simba and his twin ravens, Rem and Ram, rushed over to welcome him back. Naruto scooped up Simba and let the two ravens claim their usual perches on his shoulders while letting out a little hiss .

( its good they are light )

naruto smoothly activated his Avian Link, sending out a wave of calm, reassuring mental feedback to let his Avian beasts know that their master was back in good health , even if his shoulder was still giving him a dull throb.

The physical touch and the quiet atmosphere of his home made him genuinely happy. With their anxiety settled, the avians took flight, scattering across the living room to claim their favorite high-up spots.

Waiting for him in the living room were three of his Shadow Clones. He'd left them behind to keep the house secure and running in his absence. Seeing the main body walk through the door, the clones looked up, ready to dump their accumulated memories.

Naruto waved a hand, cutting them off before the mental feedback could hit his tired brain. "Not now. Disperse at night."

The clones nodded in sync, understanding the play. One of them gestured toward the kitchen. "Hmm. Food?"

"A massive portion, please. Thanks," Naruto replied, his stomach rumbling on cue.

"Alright, on it."

Naruto moved through hall and headed up towards his bedroom, stripping off his grime-covered, blood-stained clothes and tossing them straight into the laundry bin. Grabbing a clean towel, he bypassed his standard bathroom and headed toward his private hot spring instead.

( A good relaxation in my personal Hot-springs....Here I come )

The hot spring was an underground feature built right into the ground floor of his house, accessible through a specific, door in the living room. Descending the stone steps into the steamy oasis, Naruto followed proper etiquette, thoroughly washing and scrubbing the dirt of the Forest of Death off his skin before even thinking about taking a dip.

While he was soaping up, he decided it was the perfect time to activate his daily sign-in.

--------------------------------------------

Sign-in

[System Notification: Rejuvenation Buff Activated]

Duration: 5 hours 58 minutes remaining

-------------------------------------------------

Yes, this was his repeatable sign-in buff skill. Even though he had already claimed the major, unique one-time location reward for his house in the past, the System still allowed him to clock in at the hot spring for a recurring physical boost.

(...I swear, there are probably quite a few of hidden mechanics to this System that I haven't fully figured out yet,) Naruto mused, rinsing off the soap.

With his body clean, he finally stepped into the steaming water. Naruto let out a long, blissful groan as the heat enveloped his aching muscles, sinking down until the water hit his chest. He closed his eyes, letting his internal clock and tactical mind crunch the healing numbers.

(If I abuse this sign-in buff on a daily basis, I can probably accelerate my natural recovery rate by about 30% to 40%,) he calculated. (That means my body will be back at 100% in 7 to 9 days instead of the usual 10 to 14.)

Thanks to his inherently monstrous constitution and Tsunade nee's care , his muscles and nerve pathways were actually already mostly repaired by yesterday. The only real bottleneck left was his cracked shoulder bone, which just needed a bit of quiet time to properly knit back together.

Shaking his head to clear out the lingering thoughts of war and exams, Naruto grabbed a small, damp towel, folded it neatly over his eyes, and leaned his head back against the smooth stone, completely surrendering himself to the relaxation.

(Let's see how my tenant is doing.)

Naruto let his mind and body completely relax, sinking beneath the surface of his consciousness. Within moments, he opened his eyes inside his mental space. But unlike the canon Naruto's mindscape—which was basically a depressing, damp sewer with a rusty cage—this place had undergone a serious, high-end renovation.

( Thanks to my efforts from the last months )

Stepping out of a cave-like entry structure , Naruto walked out into his newly remodeled mental real estate as the sky brigtened .

The sky above was a brilliant, crystal blue with few clouds flowing here and there . Underfoot, the ground was plush with vibrant green grass that stretched out toward a majestic range of mountains in the distance there were also some Sakura and other flower trees planted on the Mountaneous Mental Space .

A clear, peaceful river flowed straight from those peaks right down to Naruto's feet in small streams .

Naruto had figured out how to access his mindscape about two years ago. Back then, even though he saw the Kyuubi, he never actually said a word. He'd just look at the giant fox, take in the view, and leave.

But once he acquired the Spirit Transformation Technique and started pushing its boundaries, he realized he could exert direct control over his mental space. By mastering Yin Release through that technique, he was able to slowly but surely rewrite the scenery. The core seal itself was exactly the same; he had just completely reskinned or painted the appearance of the cage.

(Technically, it's all just a high-tier Genjutsu.... but then again, a mindscape isn't exactly real to begin with,) Naruto walked forward as he thought.

He moved until he reached the massive IIron bars. They looked like colossal, towering pillars that shot straight up into the clouds without an end in sight. A gate was also the same with a paper attached with SEAL written on it , And resting right behind those bars was his eternal tenant.

The Kyuubi

The Strongest Tail Beast On this Planet .

As Naruto approached, the Kyuubi stared back down at him. Interestingly, his eyes didn't hold pure, blinding hatred anymore; it was something entirely different. Naruto willed the ground to shift, raising a comfortable chair made of earth right in front of the cage.

He sat down, shifting his gaze to the side. Now, both the legendary demon fox and the boy were looking in the exact same direction—not at each other, but at the open sky beside them.

With a thought, Naruto manifested a massive, big-ass theater screen right across the sky. The screen flickered to life, a gold lion roared, and the show officially began.

Seeing the lion, the Kyuubi let out a low, rumbling roar of genuine excitement. He shifted his massive posture, settling in as the screen began rolling a classic, timeless masterpiece pulled straight from Naruto's previous life memories:

TOM & JERRY

Naruto kicked back as the cartoon played. He had started this about ten months ago since the moment he started practicing Spirit Transformation Technique.

( Somehow Training in that Technique also made my previous life memoried cleared and cleared ....is this because this Technique also trains soul ??)

Regardless , The moment his Yin Release mastery gave him the power to project his own memories into the mindscape. It wasn't just about changing the wallpaper; it was a highly calculated plan on how to interact with the strongest Tailed Beast in the world. The legendary creation of the Sage of Six Paths.

KURAMA

Honestly, Naruto had mapped out this entire strategy within the first six months of awakening his memories. At first, he'd considered just being entirely blunt—confessing his knowledge of the future to secure Kurama's immediate backup. That idea felt especially tempting once he realized he could literally broadcast his memories like a movie.

But after sleeping on it, he threw that plan in the trash. Reincarnation was his absolute, ultimate secret. Letting the fox watch some classic cartoons and telling him, "Hey, I'm actually a ghost from another universe" were two completely different things , Naruto simply couldn't risk anyone—even a sealed deity—knowing that truth.

Plus, since he wasn't the original Naruto, there was a massive chance Kurama wouldn't even buy it. The canon Uzumaki Naruto was an absolute anomaly—idiotic, completely pure, and optimistic to a borderline limitless degree.

(Maybe that absurd, unshakeable purity was the exact reason he managed to win over all the Tailed Beasts in the end,) Naruto thought, shaking his head.

He glanced over at the giant fox. Kurama was completely glued to the screen, occasionally letting out chuckles and deep laughs. It was a massive contrast to ten months ago, back when the fox would pretend to be asleep and sneakily watch the screen through a tiny slit in his eyelids.

(At least the baseline plan is completely on track.)

Becoming perfect partners with Kurama—becoming a Perfect Jinchuriki—was something that Naruto refused to miss out on. Just because he lacked the canon Naruto's naive personality didn't mean he couldn't achieve perfect synchronization and become Perfect Jinchuriki .

Killer Bee did it with the Eight Tails.

Han did it with the Four Tails.

They all found their own unique paths to harmony with their beasts.

And Naruto had found his own bridge or decided on one . A bridge built out of a shared , brutal understanding:

Loneliness.

While Naruto had tasted a bitter flavor of isolation during the first nine years of his life, what the Kyuubi had endured was a completely different brand of psychological horror.

For over fifty years—passed from Uzumaki Mito, to Uzumaki Kushina, and finally down to Naruto—Kurama had been subjected to an absolute, unyielding Despair of pure loneliness.

Think about it.

It wasn't just a regular prison; it was a Pure cosmic sensory deprivation chamber. The Fox was shoved into a dark, suffocating box with absolutely nothing to interact with.

No people.

No voices.

No wind to feel on his fur or even breathe

no light to see .

no food to taste

No entertainment

No Freedom

and not even a drop of water to quench a phantom, burning throat even as an Illusion .

Just a Tool caged because of selfish Whims of Humans , With sole reason being who he actually is , not what he had done or anything .

Just For being born

Just For Living

Just For surviving

Or Just by BEing Himself

Kurama was caged & Punished more cruelly than any human criminal in history.

And That is without any criminal Records , sin or even Mistake .

( Even with criminal background this kind of punishment is ...Ridiculous )

In a total, dead void where sound literally went to die, an immortal Sentient Individual of nature was left entirely alone with nothing but his own thoughts looping for half a century.

Any sane mind would have shattered into a million pieces within a year.

And To endure that nightmare for decades? Turning into an incarnation of pure malice wasn't just natural—it was an inevitable psychological defense mechanism against complete and utter madness.

( .... at Least he hasn't got mad totally ....*sigh*)

When Naruto analyzed the original timeline closely, he realized the canon Naruto didn't even get Kurama's genuine, unforced cooperation until the fox literally witnessed the revival of Madara and the Ten-Tails.

Before that rand calamity event, things were never a happy-go-lucky friendship. Even with the Cloud Village's training methods, Kurama had only given a passive, quiet acquiescence because of canon Naruto's unique nature—he didn't fully throw down for him until his own pride as a Tailed Beast was pushed to the brink especially after seeing Ten-tails and Madara .

( ...or maybe when Kurama met with four tails son goku and was also affected with Naruto's mouth escape ?? )

Or maybe because it was because Naruto was Asura's reincarnation or something else ??

Shaking His head , Naruto fell in the past as Naruto vividly remembered the day it all changed for him in this life. It was the night of his first date with Ino, right after he realized how masterfully Sarutobi Hiruzen was manipulating every single piece of his life for the "Greater Good."

While Naruto hadn't let a single emotion slip on the outside, his insides were absolutely boiling.

He was seething with a cold, terrifying malice.

And that exact wave of malice was the homing beacon that finally unlocked the door to the Kyuubi. That night, almost 3 years ago, Naruto went to sleep with hatred buried deep in his chest, only to wake up for the very first time inside that damp, sewer-like mindscape.

In that memory, the mindscape was exactly what he remembered from his past life's canon data. A dark, echoing sewer with ankle-deep water coating the floor, surrounded by cold, oppressive stone walls that led straight to a gargantuan set of iron bars.

And behind those bars, a massive, terrifying shape was grinning, its razor-sharp teeth gleaming in the dark, radiating waves of pure, suffocating pressure.

The Kyuubi's eyes back then were bloodshot to an insane degree, laced with jagged red veins that hinted at the centuries of agonizing despair locked within his hellish prison. The BEast wanted nothing more than to tear the entire World apart in sheer, unadulterated hatred.

Massive, deadly fangs dripped with thick saliva as the beast ground his teeth together, his entire focus locked onto brand-new jailer .

That was the exact moment Naruto personally met the beast. The fox's voice had thundered through the dark, dripping with venom:

"HEY KID..... COME CLOSER...!!"

Knowing the absolute security of the cage and the Tetragram Seal, Naruto played his part flawlessly. He masked his expression, putting on the face of a terrified, naive child, and took a hesitant step toward the darkness.

But suddenly

BANG!

CLANG!

The entire mindscape rattled violently as the Kyuubi slammed his massive, razor-sharp claws against the iron gate with everything he had. Naruto "fearfully" stumbled backward, stumbling through the water, as the fox let out a deafening roar.

"I WANT TO EAT YOU.... KILL YOU.... BUT WHY .....WHY DOES THIS DARN GATE WON'T OPEN!.....WHY ..!!! "

The beast bellowed, his voice laced with pure, unfiltered malice. As the Kyuubi stood up in his towering rage, Naruto got his first full look at the sheer scale of the creature—the colossal, shifting fox-like frame and the massive, heavy tails thrashing wildly behind him.

The Kyuubi lowered his massive head, his bloodshot eyes burning into the tiny kid who had been cursed to be his new living cage for the next few decades, just like his mother Kushina and that damn Mito before her.

Suddenly A dense, toxic red chakra began to bleed out from beneath the cage doors, rolling across the water toward Naruto's feet like a burning tide.

"THE BLOODY SPELL THAT SEALS..... ROARRRRRR....!"

The fox lost himself to his own fury, unleashing a world-shaking roar that echoed off the sewer walls.

Naruto had stood his ground, maintaining his scared-kid act on the outside, but his Mind was working overtime. Looking past the terrifying display of power, he had truly seen the staggering, heartbreaking depth of what Kurama actually was.

(...So much hatred. So much malice... and such an unbelievable, crushing loneliness.)

But before Naruto could even formulate a thought, the Kyuubi had leaned down, his voice dropping to a low, seductive hiss that vibrated through the water.

" I feel your hatred, kid. That pure, dark hatred and malice..... it's just like mine. Tell me.... do you want revenge? Because if you want it, I can—"

" YOU CAN TALK..?! " Naruto blurted out in the middle , completely cutting him off with a look of wide-eyed, childish wonder.

The Kyuubi instantly froze, the grand speech dying in his throat.

"..."

Author's notes :

Actually I have a lots to write about Kyuubi and related stuff , but the chapter already got quite long so I decided write the rest in next chapter .

If you actually notice , then you will see that Naruto's past is actually almost near best when compared to other Jinchuriki's past . But

In Anime , whether It was sasuke's trauma or Kyubis circumstances or other peoples history and Trauma , they were washed over and never gone to detail , so I decided to write a little more realistically . or semi-realistically ?? .

why did Kyuubi hates Humans ?? Madara , Hashirama and everyone equally ??just Taking a different take from the usual Fan-fic Mc's , you know .

Also Loneliness alone won't be that bridge , there will be something more ,can you guess ?? .
