Chapter 57 - Chapter 55: Calm before the storm (3)

The headmaster had gathered every student and staff to attend a quick briefing and announcement for both results of the internship then the aftermath of the suspension.

The first year and second year students were excited since they've just submitted their internship to see what options they'll have in the future after the experience although the third year to sixth year students had the same expression since the internship was something that would determine their role in Ethereal.

Sho was explaining that their suspension are halted for now until the internship are over after a month which gave some of them a sense of comfort and relief that they'll be able to go out and will no longer be spending their time either at the dorm or any of the facilities on the campus.

"Students. I believe that everyone is excited for their internship but I must remind you that all of you are representing our academy." Sho stated with a tone of authority that seemed to put every student in their place.

"And as well, I recommend for all of you to remain professional, humble and kind, no matter the situation is. That is the purpose of our academy. To nurture our growth without arrogance and disrespect." Sho said before letting out a deep sigh, proceeding to go on the list as he started to call each student's name and then the internship that they've applied to.

Every student had a small or big luggage depending on the work study that they've applied to. Most were commonly in scouting or office work type internship, completely avoiding the main job of a sorcerer especially with the aspect of their prowess that could affect their studies and flow.

Malcolm was called out as he went to his mentor, an enforcer which brought him more pride but had to hide it since he didn't want to get the headmaster's attention to scolding him immediately.

"Rinka Yamashita. Proceed to the head of the Yamashita family, your internship will be at Japan the same as before." Sho said before proceeding to Eunji, "Eunji Jeong. Proceed to the Ethereal's main sorcerer assault officer for your internship again this year."

The list went on before he started to let out sigh, completely out of himself as he started to list out the names. "Ha-Eun Jeong, Keitaro Sasaki, Sylvie Seraphim and Jinah Sung. Please proceed to the officer who'll be calling at you for your internship at the Ethereal Bureau of Investigation Unit."

His statement had confused Keitaro and Sylvie, especially when the magenta haired girl had talk with Rei before with the internship that they were supposed to attend together.

"There's a mistake… why is he not with us?" Sylvie uttered while Keitaro clenched his fists, angry for not spotting Rei's intention. "Damnit… Is that why he asked about the internship then him?" Keitaro thought to himself as he watched Ha-Eun trying to reassure the magenta haired girl.

...…

Tengen was standing on the corner of the academy, smirking to himself as he was relieved that Rei's name wasn't called out when Sylvie's name was mentioned for the investigation unit internship. "Hmmm… Nice… Looks like I'm getting what I want then ~ How wonderful ~" the male sang playfully in his head, waiting until it was his turn.

"For the honourable internship. Haru Sasaki and Neon Sasaki is invited and offered by Tengen Nagasaki, the number one sorcerer in Ethereal's active unit."

Sho's statement made him confused, after all, Rei would pursue for power and more experience in order to protect Sylvie after the recent events. So, why would the vessel reject his offer?

That was until a chilly atmosphere had flooded the hall, an aura of dread and calamity. A man with black hair who had an undercut, blue eyes scanning the area.

"My sincere apologies for my tardiness. Underground work had me for a while. May I take my side?" He asked as one of the staff had escorted him at the far corner.

...…

Eunji was surprised to see a senior that she had knew of, the one who had showed her the ropes of how sorcerer should work under pressure and stressful situations. "If he's here… then who's his intern?" She thought to herself before realising the only person that could either get his attention was either Jinah or Rei since the recent incident was already brought up in gossips and forums.

"Rei Nishimura has been offered and invited by Jinwoo Sung, Ethereal's number two active sorcerer for underground studies. Young Rei, please proceed to go with Mr. Jinwoo for your internship at Korea."

A large and loud collective gasp of people in the hall upon hearing the words that came out of the headmaster's mouth, after all, a senior who graduated from the academy had came to personally offer someone like Rei for internship.

It was a rare sight and event especially when the Korean male had been rumoured to be ruthless and strict along with a dirty reputation for committing a massacre of an organisation once or thrice in the previous year.

"No way… Is he insane?! No! Headmaster Sho, what are you thinking?!" The strawberry blonde thought to herself as Rinka and her met each other's gaze, both were signalling each other for such disbelief at the situation.

...…

Sylvie had a lot on her mind while settling in the room that she was rooming with Ha-eun, utterly defeated and confused with Rei's lie and sudden turn of events. The magenta haired girl wanted to be with him so that she could support him but why did he had to push her away when she could've gone along with him?

"Want to talk about it?" Ha-eun asked as the magenta haired girl could only nod her head weakly, "I know it hurts but let's see things on his perspective. Alright?"

Sylvie nodded her head as Ha-eun started to talk, listing out every incident that Rei and the magenta haired girl had went through then trying her best to explain what could be happening with the male's thinking process.

"I don't know why but how could he? I've gave him space then continued to support him so why did he have to push me away this time?" Sylvie questioned but instead of Ha-eun answering him, if was Keitaro who just arrived in front of the open door.

"Because he felt soft." He said before explaining more to what he thought of Rei's actions, "He wanted to grow strong with a stronger mindset but if you were there with him at the same time, then he would have a strong difficulty of managing two things at once."

It made sense to her, after all, Rei was always passionate at things when he wanted to pursue but the way he does it was hurtful although she still felt betrayed and angered by it.

"I see… Should I call him or text him?" Sylvie asked as Keitaro responded immediately, "Text him. Only reply or call if he says so. With his internship, I highly doubt he'll be able to text or call during his break time since senior Jinwoo might put him on duty most of the time."

Sylvie felt a bit uneasy although the sudden ringing of her phone had startled them, the two sensing her aura as they left her alone; giving space to the magenta hair girl to talk to Rei.

"I'm sorry."

Sylvie gritted her teeth as she shouted back, "Sorry?! You better be sorry! I just wanted to be there with you! How could you?!"

She could hear Rei breathing heavily although could also understand that he was trying to calm himself down. "I-I wanted to keep you safe… If I had tagged you with me, I would be on duty while you're stuck with doing paperwork without me being able look after you due to your condition… Making you do all the paperwork and office related stuff alone."

His reasoning calmed her for a bit, although she was still made at him. "Fine. I'll forgive you. Just text me if you're available or not then a call if possible. Take care of yourself there." Sylvie said while Rei chuckled softly which made her heart start beating quickly, "I will. Although, you should look after yourself first. I don't wanna go back to see you beaten up. See you soon." Rei said before they both said their goodbyes to each other.

The magenta haired girl feeling much better while Keitaro and Ha-Eun then a couple of officers were wondering when to get in since they'll be having a short briefing although it was awkward especially with how their moment went through.

"Are students like this nowadays?" One of them asked while Keitaro immediately responded with a no.

"Looks like this year would be the most interesting year in Ethereal…" The mentor muttered to themselves before adjusting themselves to gather everyone to have a quick briefing and introduction to Sylvie since the headmaster had personally called them for the internship.

...…

Meanwhile, Rei had just boarded the private plane that Jinwoo had before they took off. Their atmosphere intense as the man had asked him for his reasoning of the internship.

"To become strong. To go forth without hesitation."

His answer made the man smile, "Nice answer. We'll have a lot of underground work studies for you once we arrive in Korea."
