Sylvie wasn't having the best time of her life after a week had passed by, while she did understand Rei's intention however she felt a part of her that was missing deep in her void. The presence of Rei's comfort and laughter was the only thing that she wanted aside from wanting to pursue her career so that she can catch up to her elder sister and mother.
"Seraphim! We need your help! Can you print us some documents? I'll send you the files to print." One of the officers said as the magenta haired girl had immediately responded, pushing her negative feelings away as she had to focus on her internship.
Downloading the documents on the computer before printing then printing them out as she took them and filed them neatly and properly into the folder before handing it to them.
"Thanks. Quite skilled as well. Appreciate the neat work!" They complimented her before Keitaro called out for her to oversee some documents.
Despite her inexperience in the investigation unit, Sylvie still managed to impress them with her professionalism and determination to keep up with their work environment. Her skills in handling documents and files was the best thing that the investigation unit had ever witnessed nor to have with their field since most people struggled to arrange their files except for Keitaro and Ha-Eun who had already adapted to their environment since their second and third year with the internship.
"Keitaro. I got one or two files that I've managed to get out of the archives that could be useful for the investigation that you are filing and writing the report for." The magenta haired girl said before giving him the files, making the male surprised with how quick and efficient she is especially when they just started five minutes ago.
"Is there anything else?" She asked while Keitaro thought for a moment before responding back, "Handle a couple of paperwork that needs to be signed or looked over then maybe help a couple of our co-workers if help is needed. Nothing else."
"Alright." The magenta haired girl had left the investigation room before heading over to Ha-Eun's office to help when she found herself having difficulties searching through the long list of files on her computer to conclude the report.
"Thanks!" Ha-Eun said as her bright personality made Sylvie squinted her eyes.
"No wonder why this guy is calm…" The magenta haired girl thought to herself before leaving Ha-Eun's office, venturing on her own to help anyone that needed her assistance but found herself to get back at her office before working on the paperwork that she had to do.
Sylvie wasn't having any troubles when handling her own paperwork despite how much the amount was the same as everyone else, although the magenta haired girl still proved herself to be different from them.
She used to this workload since she used to be an overachiever before meeting Rei, the magenta haired girl had always pushed herself beyond her own limits despite how much her mother and elder sister had tried to help her out or to get her to have a break.
"Alright. Everyone, lunch break! Have time to relax for an hour unless our chief is informed of any emergency that we need to do." One of the female workers said as everyone in the unit seemed to relax, a couple of friends or two went out to either go eat their lunch outside or order a takeout then eat it at the office.
Sylvie was about to do at least a few more before eating a quick lunch then train later with the remaining time until she was disturbed what seemed to be a puppy. It was a husky to be exact although the shadow-like feature that seemed to fog from it made her intrigued.
"Well, look at you little fella. Immediately running away from Jinah?" She asked while giving it a head pat after noticing the unique marking on the head.
Jinah had entered Sylvie's office, breathing heavily as she apologised for her summon. "Sorry! I swear to god, ever since we met, these guardian dogs have been dying to get out of my shadows to visit you." She said which made Sylvie chuckled, dismissing it as she enjoyed the presence of the summon.
The two had headed out to join Keitaro and Ha-Eun at the cafeteria. The meal looked simple and bland however the nutrients that they needed were there to sustain their physical well being.
"Never knew that training without using prowess would be that difficult." Jinah uttered while they were discussing while Keitaro argued with his own, "It's not that difficult. People tend to forget the basic fundamentals of working out physically the moment they awaken their prowess."
Ha-Eun chuckled while Sylvie watched in amusement at how Keitaro was cool-headed while replying back to Jinah's antics and arguments.
"Why is it important for some people to focus on training with their prowess rather than improving their physical attributes?" The magenta haired girl asked which Ha-Eun started to explain everything.
"Well, prowess is one thing but the implementation of execution and output puts us to creating techniques compared to the innate technique of the basic aspect of our prowess." Ha-Eun said before continuing further which the magenta haired girl still listened and took notes mentally.
"Innate techniques are embedded into the prowess itself upon awakening. For example, Keitaro's blue flames or Foxfire allows him to use the basic aspect of controlling flames which would be flame manipulation of Foxfire."
Sylvie nodded her head while ignoring Keitaro and Jinah who were still arguing in the background.
"For yours, what would be your most basic ability?" Ha-Eun asked before Sylvie responded, "Controlling time."
Ha-Eun nodded her head before she started to assume what her technique would be based on what Sylvie had told her the common usage that she had used.
"Based on what you've told me, I assume your techniques would be Time-Freeze, Time-Deceleration and Temporal Rewind." the black haired girl said while Sylvie took note, although she missed having the feeling of her prowess especially with the passive ability which allowed her to perceive things better in the flow of time while having improved reflexes and reaction time.
"I see… Is that why the headmaster allowed Rei to attend despite his unusual status?" Her question came out of her mouth instead of asking herself in her thoughts.
It was quiet for a bit before Keitaro answered for them, "Probably. That mimicry of his along with that stockpiling is already enough to be on par with senior Eunji's prowess especially with the copy aspect of theirs." He said which brought Sylvie's attention.
"Wait- Mimicry? What's her prowess?" The magenta haired girl asked while Keitaro looked dumbfounded.
"Oh right… You guys are still new… I guess it would explain your reaction and Rei's decision to go with Mr. Sung." Keitaro uttered before continuing, "Senior Eunji's prowess is 'Soul Manipulation'."
Sylvie was surprised, after all, when Sir Ellis Kadoorie High still applied prowess studies. The main topic had always explained about the importance of each awakener's basic function such as spiritual energy then the 'energy flow' that channeled throughout their body along with the two core functions.
The part that allowed them to channel their energy throughout their body, the 'essence core'.
Then the vital part of an awakener, the 'soul' which contains the spiritual energy itself and one that provides every single awakener the ability to manipulate their spiritual energy and awaken the prowess that they inherit from their lineage.
"Soul manipulation?! Does that mean senior Eunji could basically just use any prowess that she desires?" Sylvie asked before Ha-Eun answered for Keitaro, "Nope. She can only attain the innate technique after using her technique to copy it completely then permanently store it into her own. Making her own variation of that copied prowess. Although her prowess is mutated compared to what our parents have."
"I see…" Sylvie uttered before they all went back to their office after lunch break had finished.
...…
All of the staff had gathered later after an hour, instead of hearing that their shift had ended. The chief had informed them that a big investigation was given to them by Jinwoo himself which surprised them all.
Especially when the case had Sylvie involved in it as the chief started to explain what the investigation was gonna be.
"Ladies and gentlemen, this investigation cannot go out in public nor to the authorities unless we have information that is suitable for public opinion. This case is heavily focused on the previous year's trouble that went cold." The male said as every single one of them tense which confuses Sylvie before the chief dropped the bomb.
"The organisation that ambushes mid-tier or high-tier awakeners then leaves them either dead or their prowess being stolen away."
Sylvie tensed up as she suddenly remembers all the events that happened on that day. Every detail of how it all fell down as she suddenly rushed out of the room, Ha-Eun and Jinah running after her as the latter went to the nearest toilet before she suddenly emptied out the contents of what she had eaten.
"Easy there…" Jinah uttered as both girls were trying their best to calm her down.
...…
Keitaro was called in by the chief as they immediately started talking.
"Sir, did Mr. Sung request this?" The blue haired male asked while they immediately responded back, "No. However, his intern did since they've found something related to the cold case which was also linked to Sylvie's condition."
"Anyways, make sure that Sylvie is doing fine before getting her statement and let her take the break first."
"Yes sir." Keitaro said before leaving the office with one thing in his mind.
To keep his promise to Rei.
