Chapter 78: Escalation and Reveal
[[[ Ok so before we start i am putting a warning of at least 16 and up here. There is no explicit content but it is a jump so be warned there will be some scenes ]]]]
A few days after leaving town, they set down camp in a quiet stretch of forest again just off the main road.
Things between them had shifted since that night at the inn. The cake, the kiss, the way she had pressed against him, none of it had been walked back in intensity. If anything, Lumni had only grown more open about touching him, ordering him around, and taking what she wanted, when she wanted it. Varion had noticed the slow change. The playful edge was still there, but underneath it something more commanding had started showing through. She carried herself differently now, like someone who expected the world to move when she spoke. He didn't confront her about it, but he noted it.
After Varion finished setting up the tent and went to wash off in the stream while there was still light out. Lumni stayed behind, sitting on a blanket as she calmly ran a comb through her hair making sure it looked smooth. As he walked away she smirked like she had just had a great idea.
He had only been gone a few minutes when a soft set of footsteps approached the waters edge.
Varion looked up and there stood Lumni at the edge of the stream, eyes moving slowly over him without any attempt at subtlety. She didn't flush or look away. Instead, she bit her lower lip lightly, eyes lingering over him with open interest. They stayed locked like that for a minute before Varion eventually had enough of the silence.
Varion raised an eyebrow and asked. "Like what you see?"
"Most definitely," she answered earnestly without a drop of hesitation.
The blunt honesty caught him off guard for half a second. Before he could say anything else, she turned and walked back toward camp as if nothing unusual had happened.
Leaving Varion there stunned, staring at her as she left.
When he returned, still slightly damp and pulling his shirt back on, Lumni was waiting for him. The moment he sat down, she climbed straight into his lap, straddling him. Her hands slid up his chest, and she kissed him without warning it was deep and hungry, like the restraint she had been keeping since the inn had finally snapped.
Varion's hands settled on her waist as she pressed closer, the kiss growing hotter by the second.
They didn't stop for a long while.
That night, the tension from earlier still sat between them.
Lumni had changed into her night clothes she usually slept in and joined Varion who was lying on his back, one arm folded behind his head. She settled against his side at first, she sat there quiet for a while.
Then she shifted.
She moved until she was half on top of him, one leg sliding between his. Her hand rested on his chest, fingers idly tracing along the fabric of his shirt. After a moment she leaned down and kissed him, it was slow at first, then it grew deeper and more intimate.
Varion's hand found her waist. She made a small sound of approval and pressed closer, rolling her hips against him just enough to make her intention clear. The friction drew a quiet breath from him.
Lumni smiled against his mouth.
She kept control of the pace, kissing him thoroughly while her hand slipped under his shirt, palm sliding over warm skin. Every time he responded she seemed even more pleased. The more affected he became, the more she leaned into it.
It was working on her too. Her breathing had grown uneven, and the way she kept pressing herself against him made it obvious she was enjoying the friction as much as the control.
Still, she never let it go further than she wanted.
After a while she pulled back just enough to look at him, lips slightly swollen, eyes dark with satisfaction. Then instead of continuing, she simply stopped and settled back down against his chest.
Varion let out a low, frustrated groan, the sound slipping out before he could stop it.
Lumni's lips curved into a smug little smirk.
She tucked her head under his chin like nothing had happened, clearly pleased with herself.
Neither of them said anything else.
They fell asleep like that, the air between them still charged. Although it took Varion much, much longer to do so than Lumni
Over the next few days, this pattern of teasing then pulling back continued.
Every night Lumni climbed into the tent like it belonged to her, kissed him until his thoughts scattered, and did things to him just long enough to leave him frustrated before settling down with that same satisfied smirk.
Varion noticed slips in her personality more and more clearly everyday.
The way she spoke sometimes carried a weight that didn't match who she claimed to be. The casual commands. The way she looked at people, like she was deciding whether they were worth her attention. These new little things added up more and more over the weeks.
One afternoon, while he sat at their camp cleaning his sword, he finally put it together or more like confirmed it to himself.
'She wasn't who she said she was.'
The realization should have put him on edge. Instead, he felt a different kind of certainty. Whatever her real name or status, whoever she might really be, the way she touched him, the way she kissed him, the way she looked at him when she thought he wasn't paying attention, none of it had been fake. The feelings were real. That intense instinctive pull between them was real.
'Great Sage, what do you think,..... am I right?'
«Analysis supports that conclusion. Her emotional responses and physiological reactions have been consistent with genuine attachment. Deception regarding identity does not appear to extend to her feelings toward you from what observed.»
Varion accepted it, then frowned down at the blade in his hands.
'Then why hide it?'
A few possibilities quickly crossed his mind. Maybe she was running from something. Maybe her real identity would put a target on anyone close to her. Maybe she simply wanted to be treated as a normal person for a while. He didn't have enough to narrow it down.
He was still thinking about it when a sharp scream cut through the trees from the direction of the river where Lumni went.
"Varion!!!"
He was on his feet and moving before the second syllable finished, and shooting towards where she was. He broke through the trees at a lightning speed and hit the water without slowing down.
Before he fully registered what he was doing, his arm was already around her, hand braced under her thigh as he pulled her naked body firmly off the ground and against his side. He held her there, his eyes sharpened into slits scanning the surrounding forest in sharp, controlled sweeps, every sense stretched for a threat. His sword in hand ready to cut down whatever was there.
Seconds passed.
Nothing moved.
The only sound was the soft rush of the river from it being disturbed and their breathing.
He looked down.
Lumni was watching him with a clear, satisfied smirk, completely unbothered by her state of undress or the way he was holding her.
The realization hit all at once, her bare body against him, the placement of his hand, the fact that there had never been any danger. He carefully set her back on her feet and stepped away, a light flush rising to his face.
He turned and climbed back onto the bank.
He barely had time to take a single breath before she was standing in front of him. Her arms slid around his neck and she pulled him into a deep, hungry kiss. The force of it sent them both down into the grass.
She stayed on top of him kissing him hungrily and dominant. It took Varion a few seconds to realise what was happening and he wasn't going to give in that easily.
They rolled, kissing hard, hands gripping and pushing as each tried to gain the upper hand. Varion put real effort into it, refusing to simply let her win. For a short stretch it was even.
Then she twisted, used her weight and leverage, and pinned both of his wrists to the ground above his head.
Varion froze, genuinely surprised.
He had been actually trying using more and more of his strength.
Yet she had still won.
Lumni looked down at him, silver hair falling around their faces, her red and blue eyes bright with triumph and something far hotter.
She leaned in until her lips just brushed his.
"By now I'm sure you've figured out that I'm not really just a simple girl."
Varion nodded once.
"I figured that, I didn't care much tho."
That made her pause. A flicker of genuine surprise crossed her face before she could hide it.
"I can feel that you actually like me," he continued, voice steady even with her weight on him. "This isn't some game to you. And considering I couldn't break free right now if I wanted to… you're someone strong."
Her lips curved into a slow, pleased smirk. She released his wrists and sat up a little straighter, deliberately pushing her bare chest out with open pride. The movement drew his eyes whether he wanted it to or not. The confident look on her face combined with the way her body shifted above him was, frankly, extremely hot.
She noticed causing her smirk to grow wider.
"My name," she said clearly, "is Luminous Valentine."
Varion went still.
The Demon Lord he had been traveling to meet the one whose territory he had been heading toward this entire time, was currently naked and mounted on top of him.
She watched the realization settle in his eyes and continued without giving him time to recover.
"There are quite a few reasons I took a liking to you." Her voice dropped, softer but no less certain. "But none of that really matters right now."
She leaned down again, lips nearly touching his, and licked them slowly.
"I know you have a portal skill. I want you to take me to my bedroom." Heat burned openly in her golden eyes. "I'm done playing these games, I'm done waiting. I'm not going to let you sleep tonight.~" she said towards the end her voice came out with a purr
To drive the point home she rolled her hips, pressing harder against the obvious strain in his pants.
A moment later a clear image and set of spatial coordinates bloomed in his mind through thought communication along with the image of an opulent bedroom of dark colors and deep red silk.
Varion stared up at her for one long second.
Then the last of his hesitation snapped.
'Fuck it. I'll worry about everything else later.'
He was going to wipe that smug look off her face.
Silver light flared beneath them. The forest floor vanished. They dropped straight onto a massive bed piled with dark covers and silken sheets. A second, smaller portal opened beside the bed and his sword clattered harmlessly onto the stone floor.
Luminous Valentine looked down at him from her position astride his hips, completely at home, and smiled like she had already won.
