Backed by the "all-knowing Lord Roy," Subaru felt invincible. "Lord Roy, who is that woman?"
Roy recalled, "Her name is Elsa Granhiert, known as the 'Bowel Hunter.' She was hired to steal the insignia."
"Bowel Hunter? What a terrifying name," Subaru shuddered.
Roy replied, "Don't worry about the employer yet. Just think about how to deal with her."
Subaru began to understand Roy's temperament; he wouldn't discuss high-level secrets to keep Subaru focused. Having died three times, Subaru was now quite efficient. He ran to the slums, traded with Felt for the insignia using his phone's camera as a "metia," and they met at Old Man Rom's loot cellar.
Confirming the phone's value at 20 holy coins, Subaru cheered. "It's settled then! Let's all go out for a drink and end this!" He moved toward the door, acting as if the matter was closed.
"Wait, why are you in such a hurry?" As expected, his rush sparked suspicion in Felt and Rom. They wanted to wait for the original buyer to get a better price. Subaru froze. He knew the crazy woman could appear any second. He tried to explain, but his words failed him. Roy shook his head; at the end of the day, Subaru was just a seventeen-year-old high schooler with zero experience.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
The sound struck Subaru's heart. He clutched his stomach as the memory of being disemboweled flashed back. "Lord Roy, what do I do?"
Roy laughed. "Relax. The girl of your dreams is at the door."
The door opened to reveal the silver-haired half-elf with violet eyes. "Give it back!" Emilia summoned several sharp ice spears, aiming at Subaru and the others.
Subaru was about to explain when Roy's voice rang out: "She's inside the house!" Subaru broke into a cold sweat. The Bowel Hunter was here!
"I'll lend you a portion of my power. Kill her. Don't hesitate; she's a cold-blooded killer," Roy said. He initiated the transfer, giving Subaru roughly 10% of his Ability Points.
To Subaru, this was an unimaginable surge of power. A wave of heat flooded his body, and he felt a source of infinite strength. "Praise be to Lord Roy!"
Whoosh!
A shadow lunged from the darkness toward Emilia. Guided by Roy, Subaru's reaction was faster than anyone's. He grabbed a massive wooden crate and smashed it toward Elsa. Elsa was forced to stop and slash, her blade shredding the crate to splinters. Emilia retreated in shock.
The woman was beautiful, with waist-length hair and pale skin, her eyes carrying a quiet but deadly grace. "How curious," Elsa said, looking at Subaru. "In an instant, you became strong. The sense of danger you give off has multiplied."
"Hmph!" Subaru stood tall. With Roy's power, he felt invincible.
Felt recognized Elsa and demanded, "Buyer, what is the meaning of this?"
Elsa glanced at her dismissively. "Spoken like a typical slum-dweller. You were so sloppy you led the owner right to us. Now, I have no choice but to silence you all." She sounded regretful, but the bloodthirsty excitement on her face was unmistakable.
"I can't ignore a threat to my daughter," a fluffy, cute cat emerged from the crystal at Emilia's chest—Puck, the Great Spirit.
Subaru, Emilia, Puck, Rom, and Felt—five against one. Elsa showed no fear, only cold killing intent. Puck fired a barrage of ice spears, forcing Elsa to dodge around the room.
Roy taught Subaru a basic adventurer formation. Subaru shouted, "Puck, keep up the pressure! Old Man Rom and I will take the front! Silver-haired lady, get your healing magic ready!"
Subaru shared Elsa's combat patterns, which Roy had pointed out. Realizing the threat, the group quickly formed a united front. The battle exploded. Against the coordinated team, Elsa was forced onto the defensive. She shot a glance at Subaru, her eyes filled with disbelief. This boy's movements and habits didn't look like an experienced warrior's—and yet, his power was undeniable. It was truly incomprehensible to Elsa; how could this boy always act with such decisive precision at every critical moment? It felt as if an ancient monster was living inside his body.
And she was right to suspect. Roy had effectively stripped her bare of all secrets. "Elsa has a half-vampire constitution, allowing her to revive multiple times. Her cloak is also enchanted to resist magical attacks."
"What a troublesome opponent!" Subaru's face darkened upon hearing this.
"Use fire to burn her out," Roy instructed. "Isn't that little girl doing nothing? Have her find gasoline or any flammable materials." Roy knew that "Resurrection" sounded grand, but as long as it wasn't a conceptual-level power, it was just extraordinary vitality and recovery. No carbon-based lifeform is immune to fire.
"Felt! Hurry! Find gas, diesel—I don't care what it is, just get some oil!"
Guided by Roy, Subaru possessed a complete dossier on Elsa's weaknesses. The battle had shifted from a desperate struggle into a calculated hunt. However, as time ticked on, Subaru's side suffered a major loss: Puck's "shift" was over.
"Ha~ so sleepy..." "Rest now, I'll handle it," Emilia whispered. "Lia, if anything happens, I will fulfill our contract and destroy the world. If it's an emergency, summon me even if it costs my soul power," Puck said, his tiny body fading until he vanished.
Without Puck's main firepower, their strength plummeted. Elsa seized the chance to counterattack. Her lethal silhouette lunged like a leopard, her short blades flashing with cold light. Subaru and Rom were driven back step by step. Elsa was cunning; she kept her position aligned with the two men, preventing Emilia from using her magic for fear of hitting her allies.
