Chapter 94: The Spirit Transmitter Is a Noble Profession—I Won't Let You Disgrace It!

"Since the birth of spirit souls ten thousand years ago, humans and soul beasts have coexisted peacefully, driving civilization forward. Today, our lives are forever intertwined with soul beasts!"

"Now, once again, it's time for the annual Spirit-Soul Tournament! Let us celebrate this great bond of friendship between humanity and soul beasts—welcome our Spirit Transmitters!"

"Spirit Transmitters!"

"Spirit Transmitters!"

"Spirit Transmitters!"

The referee raised his voice solemnly. "We'll begin Round One, Match One of the Spirit-Soul Tournament!"

"On stage—Gu Yue of Eastsea Academy's Class Zero versus Xu Xian of Tianhai Academy's First Division!"

Mu Xi had insisted on bringing Tang Wulin to see the match.

"Well, if you're going to join the Spirit Pagoda one day," she'd said, "you should at least know what a Spirit Transmitter is!"

Indeed—how could anyone call themselves a soul master if they didn't understand spirit souls?

At the stadium, the crowd was enormous, far larger than for any blacksmithing event. Countless onlookers had spirit companions floating or crouching by their sides—living proof of how deeply the practice had spread.

Officially, the Spirit Pagoda maintained that Spirit Transmitters were simply private individuals who owned spirit orbs and fought alongside their soul partners—independent of the Pagoda's influence.

But the reality? The transmitters might not belong to the Pagoda… but their souls did.

By that logic, nearly everyone involved still served the Pagoda's reach.

As a result, at least four-fifths of the massive audience were either Spirit Transmitters or aspiring ones.

"Huh? Isn't that Gu Yue? I thought she didn't sign up for this competition," someone in the stands whispered. "How did she even get approved?"

Everyone was curious.

Meanwhile, on stage, Gu Yue stood calmly, cradling her "Holy Light White Tiger" in her arms—gently stroking its soft fur.

The "Holy Light White Tiger" ground its fangs silently before letting out a low growl through telepathic speech.

"Stop touching my tail."

Gu Yue nodded obediently. Then, without hesitation, gave its tail one last stroke—just as Jiang Chen's patience snapped.

Before he could roar in protest, she tossed him straight onto the battlefield.

"You…"

Oh, she was so dead later. Tonight, vengeance would be served.

Across the stage stood Xu Xian of Tianhai Academy—tall, smug, and brimming with self-importance.

Pointing to the silver badge on his uniform, he sneered, "Woman, where's your Spirit Pagoda insignia?"

Gu Yue shook her head slightly. "I'm not a certified transmitter yet."

He burst out laughing. "So, a reject who couldn't even pass the transmitter exam dares to compete? Hah! You're insulting the entire bond between humans and spirit souls!"

His eyes narrowed, voice filled with disdain.

"You must have bought that creature—or worse, borrowed it. Some self-proclaimed strong soul rented or stolen, and now here you are, parading it in a tournament you don't understand."

"This... is the behavior of trash!"

"You know nothing about what it means to be a Spirit Transmitter! You don't understand soul companions at all!"

"Fine—I'll show you what a true transmitter looks like! What it means to have a partnership built on trust and devotion!"

With exaggerated flair, Xu Xian plucked a pink spirit orb tied with a bow from his chest pocket and pressed a kiss against it.

Then he shouted dramatically, "Go—my soul companion, Frost-Soul White-Scaled Serpent!"

Jiang Chen, lying on the floor of the arena in his current form, twitched.

Brother, you're laying it on too thick.

Since the Spirit Pagoda had legalized the "Spirit Transmitter" profession, they'd apparently attracted an entire cult of overzealous fans.

A blast of chilling air swept across the arena as white frost crystallized over the floor. Suddenly, a thunderous dragon's roar split the sky—a massive, ethereal frost dragon surged down from above, circling the stadium in dazzling arcs.

Then with one magnificent dive, the illusion vanished, replaced by a sleek, ten-meter blue serpent shimmering with icy energy.

The display had special effects.

Jiang Chen immediately recognized the expensive trick—exclusive to the Pagoda's latest business venture. They sold ornamental "summon effects" for the wealthy to flaunt—grand illusions to accompany their soul calls.

From flashy lights to full cosmic phenomena—Nine Dragons Drawing the Coffin, Triple Sun Alignment, you name it—each effect could cost tens of millions of Federation credits.

The most popular one by far? The imitation of the great Di Tian himself: the flight of the Golden-Eyed Black Dragon King. People went crazy for it.

Di Tian earned a fortune each year in "licensing fees."

Among the Ten Great Beasts, only the Snow Empress had refused to be commercialized.

This new serpent's display probably cost upwards of several hundred thousand—a "legendary-grade" illusion, purely cosmetic, worth nothing in combat.

It was glamour, nothing more.

But flashy or not, the crowd loved it. Cheers erupted as the shimmering frost dragon roared, fans chanting Xu Xian's name.

Xu Xian smiled arrogantly and turned to Gu Yue.

"Woman, surrender now. You're no match for me."

As he preened proudly, Gu Yue's expression remained calm—but Jiang Chen felt the killing intent rise.

Of all things that could provoke her, this was the worst.

Parading false "dragons" for show? A human circus mocking dragon-kind's majesty?

This was sacrilege.

Fortunately, she didn't yet know whose idea the "illusion business" had been...

Jiang Chen tried to look anywhere else, but his gut twisted in dread as Gu Yue quietly pulled out her communicator.

Oh, no.

A message blinked open.

[Soul Beast Renaissance]: Di Tian, who came up with the idea to sell dragon-summon effects?

[For the Revival of Soul Beasts I Walk on Thin Ice]: My lord, that was Jiang Chen's suggestion! Brilliant idea, wasn't it? Humans are such fools—they pay exorbitant prices for meaningless illusions! That boy's a genius!

He had written it hoping to earn Jiang Chen some goodwill—after all, they had once been allies.

But instead, Gu Yue's eyes darkened. Her fingers clenched around the device, spiritual pressure spilling out so intensely that even the parasitic Evil Eye within it shivered.

My lord… terrifying!

"Good," she said with a chilling smile. "Very good."

Her gaze turned sharply toward the fluffy white tiger standing before her.

This wasn't the time to confront him, though—not here, on stage.

Xu Xian raised his hand dramatically again.

"Frost-Soul White-Scaled Serpent! Bite him! Use Constriction!"

Gu Yue snapped her fingers. "Go, Xiao Bai! Claw attack!"

Jiang Chen froze.

What?!

Wait a second!

This woman—the same one who'd been all gentle while stroking his fur?

And now she wanted to send him headfirst into a python's mouth?

He glanced down at himself—barely half a meter tall—then back up at his ten‑meter‑long opponent.

Was this… offering him up as a snack?

Would he choke the damn snake—or just die digesting in style?

Internally, Jiang Chen wept.

But trapped as her summoned soul, he had no choice. With all the dignity a fluffy white cat could muster, he crouched, scraped his claws against the floor, and charged forward.

Xu Xian sneered. "Pathetic! You can't even command properly."

"Allow me—the true Spirit Transmitter—to show you how it's done! Witness the art of partnership!"
