Chapter 107: Revival
When the jade box was opened, a rose like flower with seven distinct colored petals lay quietly inside. Even the faintest whiff of its fragrance invigorated the soul.
"Not bad. This Seven Colored Fantasy Spirit Saliva is quite pure," Xiao Yan nodded approvingly.
This rare treasure for nourishing the soul was difficult to cultivate, even within the Xiao Clan, where such resources were scarce. Many of their current methods for cultivating soul nourishing treasures had been derived from the Soul Clan's techniques of the past.
"Step back a bit," Xiao Yan said softly as he carefully picked up the Seven Colored Fantasy Spirit Saliva.
"Okay." Nalan Yanran obediently took a few steps back.
Xiao Yan raised his right hand, and a flame of intertwining black and white erupted from his palm.
"Is that a Heavenly Flame?" Nalan Yanran's bright eyes sparkled with curiosity as she gazed at the mystical fire. Besides its oppressive heat, the flame carried a profound natural energy that left her in awe.
"Yes," Xiao Yan replied patiently, willing to explain when faced with a beauty. "This flame is called the Yin Yang Twin Flame."
"How amazing…" Nalan Yanran's gaze flickered with admiration as she blinked. "Xiao Yan gege, are you also an alchemist?"
"Of course." Xiao Yan smiled as he tossed the Seven Colored Fantasy Spirit Saliva into the flames.
As soon as the rose like plant entered the fire, it emitted a radiant glow, attempting to resist the incineration. However, against the Yin Yang Twin Flame, its efforts were futile.
A Shocking Revelation
"Judging by your skill, you must be a high tier alchemist," Nalan Yanran commented softly, her curiosity piqued.
"Just average," Xiao Yan replied nonchalantly, manipulating the flame with ease. "I'm only at the seventh tier."
"Seventh… seventh tier?!" Nalan Yanran's delicate face froze in disbelief.
"That's impossible! How can someone your age be a seventh tier alchemist?" Her mind struggled to process this revelation, leaving her momentarily stunned.
Having spent time among the alchemists in Yunlan Sect, she knew how grueling the path of alchemy was. Cultivating Dou Qi was one thing, but becoming a skilled alchemist required immense effort and years of experience.
"Nothing's impossible. Haven't you seen enough miracles over the past few days?" Xiao Yan chuckled, his tone lighthearted.
"Ugh, this guy loves showing off," Nalan Yanran grumbled, her expression turning slightly despondent.
"It seems like I'll never catch up to you in this lifetime."
"Well, my family has accumulated knowledge and resources for a thousand years. Do you think your ten years of hard work can compete with that?" Xiao Yan smirked, before teasing, "Although... it's not entirely hopeless."
"Really? Is there a way I can close the gap?" Nalan Yanran asked, her curiosity rekindled.
"Of course. You could cultivate with me," Xiao Yan said with a mischievous grin.
"Go to hell!" she retorted, her cheeks flushing red.
"You already annulled the engagement, so why talk about cultivation together?"
"Well, if you can't be the main wife, being a concubine isn't a bad option," Xiao Yan said earnestly. "Even though your cultivation is low, your looks are average, and your chest is small, I'm willing to accept you."
"You !" Nalan Yanran's face turned crimson with anger.
"Listen to yourself! Is that even something a human would say?"
"Alright, alright. I was joking." Xiao Yan laughed, trying to ease her frustration. "Actually, you're quite beautiful. I did feel a bit regretful when the engagement was called off."
His attempt to console her brought a faint smile to her face, though a deeper sadness lingered in her heart.
What kind of background does the girl who replaced me have? she wondered, feeling an inexplicable pang of jealousy.
Alchemy at Work
Xiao Yan's attention returned to the task at hand. The Seven Colored Fantasy Spirit Saliva was gradually reduced to a vibrant, multicolored liquid under the intense flames.
Just then, the door to the main bedroom opened. Ya Fei, now refreshed and dressed in clean clothes, stepped out.
"Awake?" Xiao Yan glanced at her casually.
"Awake." Ya Fei sauntered over, her enticing figure highlighted by her pristine white cheongsam.
Stretching lazily, her graceful curves were on full display. Nalan Yanran couldn't help but feel a twinge of envy.
"Yanran meimei is here," Ya Fei greeted with a charming smile, her voice carrying a sleepy, catlike allure.
"Yes. Good morning, Ya Fei jie." Nalan Yanran greeted her politely, casting a quick glance at Ya Fei before looking down at herself.
Maybe they are a bit small… she thought, suddenly feeling a pang of self consciousness.
"Ya Fei jie, what's your current cultivation level?" Nalan Yanran asked hesitantly, sensing the sharp increase in Ya Fei's Dou Qi since the last time they met.
"Four Star Dou Shi, I believe," Ya Fei replied with a light laugh.
"Four Star Dou Shi…" Nalan Yanran felt another blow to her confidence.
"Yanran, your face doesn't look so good. Are you feeling unwell?" Ya Fei asked, concern evident in her tone.
"No, it's nothing," Nalan Yanran replied, clutching her chest.
"Well then, I'll go make some tea," Ya Fei said with a smile, swaying her hips as she walked away.
Watching her leave, Nalan Yanran sighed inwardly. Life is so unfair…
Revival of a Soul
Xiao Yan, now holding the refined Seven Colored Fantasy Spirit Saliva, retrieved a faint white soul orb from his storage ring.
Though still dim, the orb was noticeably brighter than it had been three days ago when it was first extracted from the Soul Confining Stone.
"Little girl, thank you," a weak, elderly voice sounded in Nalan Yanran's mind. She turned to see Xiao Yan toss the soul orb into the Yin Yang Twin Flame.
The flames split into two one black and one white forming the shapes of two yin yang fish.
The black fish swallowed the soul orb, while the white fish consumed the purified spirit liquid. The two then began to swirl in a peculiar rhythm.
When the black fish swam near Nalan Yanran, she felt an icy chill envelop her heart, making her gaze at Xiao Yan turn cold and analytical.
When the white fish approached, warmth spread through her, as if spring had arrived. Strangely, her mind was filled with vivid scenes of her and Xiao Yan together.
"This flame is so bizarre!" she exclaimed, stepping back to avoid further influence.
"All Heavenly Flames have their unique effects," Xiao Yan said with a faint smile as the yin yang fish continued their dance.
Gradually, the unique properties of the Seven Colored Fantasy Spirit Saliva merged into the white soul orb.
The Ancestor Revives
As the sun set, an overwhelming surge of soul energy radiated from the swirling flames. Moments later, a translucent, elderly figure emerged, floating above the lake.
"Thank you, young friend, for saving my life," the elder said gratefully, cupping his hands toward Xiao Yan in respect.
