Not only Ultear and Cana emerged, but several onlookers joined them. Among them were Erza and Kagura, who had said they didn't want to learn.
Though they weren't learning the spell, that didn't stop them from watching the show.
Ultear and Cana stood side by side, facing the sea. Mavis brought her index and middle fingers together, golden light gathering at her fingertips.
Accompanied by the movement of her arm, the golden light traced a complex seal in the air.
The golden seal split into two in mid-air before attaching itself to Ultear and Cana's right forearms.
It was nine o'clock, hardly bright enough outside, but under the moonlight, the reddish marks on their skin were clearly visible.
Ultear closed her eyes to feel the powerful magical energy faintly emanating from the mark, then opened them and asked.
"What is this?"
Cana pricked up her ears, looking curious.
"That's right, this is the seal of Fairy Glitter!" Mavis smiled proudly. "But without the help of the Tenrou Tree, this is a weakened version."
Mavis could only use the full-power Fairy Glitter on Tenrou Island.
Her stone tomb there gathered much of the light from the sun, moon, and stars.
But just for learning the basics, there was no need to go to Tenrou Island—the weakened version followed the exact same principles.
Ultear shook her head in awe. "Even in its weakened form, I can feel the vastness of its magical power."
"Exactly," Cana nodded vigorously, sharing the same sentiment.
"First, feel the flow of the light from the sun, moon, and stars within your bodies, then unleash it against the sea. Oh, and here's the incantation." Mavis transmitted the chant to Ultear and Cana through telepathy.
After receiving it, Cana and Ultear raised their arms to feel the starlight.
Looking at Ultear and Cana, Mavis suddenly realized the two had something in common: Cana's father, Gildarts, and Ultear's mother, Ur.
Both parents possessed devastating magical power even before giving birth to them.
When they were born, both girls already carried enormous latent magical power within them.
Especially Ultear, who had even developed life-threatening fevers because her physical constitution couldn't keep up with her excessive magic.
Cana had it too, but unlike Ultear, her magical power needed to be unearthed. If Ultear's was apparent, then Cana's was latent.
There was no superiority or inferiority—both were pure, potent forms of magical power.
Ultear was the first to open her eyes, turning to look at Cana, who still had her eyes closed in concentration.
Without saying a word, Ultear stepped forward, closer to the cliff edge. She raised her right hand high and chanted softly:
"Gather! O river of light that's guided by the fairies! Shine! In order to perish the fangs of evil! Fairy Glitter!"
The reddish Fairy Glitter seal shone with brilliant golden light, gradually peeling from her skin, enlarging, and hovering above her head.
It then transformed into a massive golden ring, composed purely of magical power yet substantial in appearance.
Erza and Kagura looked up at this golden ring, feeling the condensed light of the sun, moon, and stars within it.
This was a merciless light that permitted no enemy to survive, a radiance capable of annihilating all foes. The halo was immense, its brilliance oppressive. Though clearly enormous enough to be uncontainable by any adversary, it appeared capable of tightly constricting enemies before delivering a final judgment.
At this moment, the two swordswomen felt a slight twinge of regret.
'I never imagined this technique would be so magnificent...' They exchanged a glance.
But it only lasted a second before they shook their heads to dispel the distracting thoughts.
'My sword alone is sufficient,' they thought in unison.
There was no time for further contemplation as the golden halo spin violently toward the sea, following the direction of Ultear's arm.
The already condensed golden halo carrying immense magical power continued to actively compress further during its downward trajectory.
Until it finally plunged into the ocean.
BOOM!
A thunderous explosion testified to its tremendous power. The previously calm sea surface violently erupted, sending massive sprays soaring skyward.
Though the hill where Fairy Hills stood was already high, the thick water column surged upward relentlessly, exhibiting an almost cloud-piercing momentum.
"Excellent, excellent! You managed magical compression on your first attempt!" Mavis was highly pleased with Ultear.
Fairy Glitter could be directly chanted and released.
It could continuously expand for wide area attacks, or it could be compressed to concentrate at a single point, unifying form and spirit to strike one specific target.
What Mavis had imprinted was the base, directly chanted version. She hadn't explained that the subsequent compression was an option, it was Ultear's own initiative.
Meaning Ultear had instinctively sensed this magical power could be further compressed.
In other words, this showcased Ultear's innate talent.
Mavis had already recognized this talent when teaching Ultear the Arc of Time.
Mastering both Arc of Time and Ice-Make Magic simultaneously—this undoubtedly marked her as a genius.
"You're putting too much pressure on me..." Cana opened her eyes, casting a mock-resentful look at Ultear.
Ultear merely smiled.
"You haven't tried yet, have you? Give it a shot." Ultear stepped back, making space for Cana on the cliff edge.
Cana didn't mind, having only been joking.
'Compression? What about the exact opposite? Let's try it—I can always adjust if it fails.'
After gazing into the distance and taking several deep breaths, Cana quickly reached her decision.
Since Ultear had already demonstrated compression, Cana saw no need to repeat it.
She began her chant, the crimson markings on her arm gradually shimmering with golden light. An identical golden halo hovered overhead as Cana silently observed it, mentally manipulating its raw form.
Erza and Kagura couldn't tell if it was their imagination.
They seemed to see pristine moonlight and scattered starlight drifting down, gradually sprinkling over the golden ring.
'It doesn't seem to be an illusion...' They exchanged another glance.
The golden ring visibly expanded before their eyes, growing from its initial three-person height with an accelerating expansion rate, until it became large enough to envelop the entire Fairy Hills dormitory.
Had Raizel been present, he would have undoubtedly exclaimed, "Bigger! Bigger! Even bigger!"
Manipulating such an enormous golden ring left Cana drenched in sweat and panting heavily.
'That should be enough,' Cana thought to herself.
Then she pointed her arm toward the sea, and the colossal golden ring smashed into the ocean along the direction of her arm.
Yes, it was a smash.
As soon as the golden ring entered the water, Erza and Kagura felt as if the earth was shaking and the mountains were trembling.
The resulting splash wasn't high, but it was enormous, displacing massive amounts of water that continuously crashed against the cliff walls.
The sound of the waves hitting the cliffs was deafening!
Mavis watched Cana's success and jumped up with great excitement.
"Excellent, excellent! Cana has also comprehended it perfectly!"
