Chapter — The Balance between Twin-Heart
The Tokyo skyline was a jagged crown of silver and blue, shivering under the last vestiges of a brutal winter. With only two days remaining until February 14th, the city was transforming. Shop windows were suddenly flooded with crimson ribbons, heart-shaped boxes, and the sweet, cloying scent of high-grade chocolate. For the rest of the world, it was a day of romance. For Luke, it was a tactical nightmare that made the prospect of fighting a High Demon seem like a relaxing afternoon.
Luke stood in his usual training clearing, the air humming with the residue of his latest shield practice. He felt like a man trapped in a hall of mirrors. On one side, he was Luke, the childhood friend whom Marin had asked to a cafe with a trembling voice. On the other, he was Auron, the legendary hero whom Zoya had extracted a "promise" from for the very same day.
"My life is a puzzle," Luke whispered, his voice sounding hollow inside the silver mask. "First the Aura Earth Shield, then the ten nodes, ... and now this."
He looked at Zoya, who was sitting nearby, swinging her legs and humming a soft tune. She looked happier than he had ever seen her.
I have to try, he thought. Maybe I can move one of them.
Auron dissipated his shield and walked toward her. "Zoya... about the 14th. About our 'go-around.' Is it possible to move it to the 15th? If you're okay with that."
The humming stopped instantly. Zoya's radiant expression crumbled, her shoulders slumping as she looked at the ground. "No, Auron..." she whispered, her voice thick with disappointment. "I mean, yes, we could go the next day. But that day—the 14th—is special to me. Do you understand? I would be so happy if you came with me then."
Auron felt a pang of guilt sharp enough to pierce his armor. He had expected the rejection, but seeing the genuine sadness in her violet aura was worse. "I understand," he said quickly. "If you say so, then I will clear my schedule. I'll see you then."
Zoya's face lit up like a sunrise. "Really? Thank you, Auron!"
"So Zoya I have to go today to clear my schedule early as possible."
Auron lied for his free space.
Zoya agreed and greeted Auron.
Auron also greeted her and then he turned away, flying a short distance before landing in a secluded grove. He felt like a failure. "Plan A: Deboard Zoya... failed."
"Now try for Marin," Auru suggested, in his mind . "Maybe she's more flexible."
"She's my best friend," Luke muttered, pulling out his phone. "She'll understand if I have 'guild business.' She probably just wants to talk about strategy anyway."
He dialed Marin.
"Hello? Luke?" Marin's voice was high and hopeful.
"Hey, Marin. Listen, about the 14th... can we delay our meetup by a day? I might be stuck with some... uh... library research."
There was a long, heavy silence on the other end. Then, Luke heard a small, shaky breath. "Oh. I see. We can move it, Luke. But that day is important, which is why I asked. If you're too busy, then forget it. We'll plan for another time."
Luke's heart sank. He could hear the clear, biting sadness in her voice. It wasn't the voice of a guild leader; it was the voice of the girl who had shared her school notes with him ten years ago.
"No! Wait!" Luke blurted out. "If it's that important, I'll clear my schedule. I'll be there, Marin. I promise."
"Is that so?" Marin's voice leaped an octave, her excitement practically radiating through the phone. "That would be great! Thank you, Luke! I'll talk to you later!"
She hung up before he could say another word.
Auron stood in the quiet grove, staring at his phone. "Plan B: Deboard Marin... also failed. They both gave me the same excuse. They both think the day is 'special.'"
"So," Auru asked, "what will you do? You can't be in two places at once, and the distance between Tokyo and the South Asian sectors is too great to flip back and forth."
"I have to use my oldest backup," Auron said, his gaze turning toward the mountains of Bhutan. "But before I set the plan, I need to know the truth. My biggest fear isn't Zoya—it's Marin. I've known her since childhood. Does she really love me, or am I just projecting? I need an expert."
"Who?"
"The only Auramaster who has actually succeeded in love," Auron said. He Unified and dashed toward the Himalayas.
Auron arrived in Bhutan in record time, hovering over the terraced fields until he spotted Tashi. The Auramaster of Bhutan was in the middle of a field, waving his hand toward the silver streak in the sky.
Auron descended, landing softly in the grass.
"Auron! What brings you here?" Tashi asked, grinning. "I heard we're down to five nodes. Great progress!"
Auron didn't answer immediately. His eyes fell on the simple engagement ring on Tashi's finger. "Yes its true but what about you. You finally got your girl, Tashi. I'm happy for you."
Tashi blushed, rubbing the back of his neck. "I never thanked you properly for that day. If it weren't for you, I would have lost her to the darkness."
"No worries," Auron said. He looked at the villagers watching them from a distance. "Can we talk somewhere... silent?"
They walked to a quiet ridge overlooking the valley. Auron took a deep breath. "Tashi, I need help. Personal help."
Tashi looked surprised. "The Unique Auramaster needs advice from me?"
Auron explained the situation—the "childhood friend" who had asked for a Valentine's shopping trip. "I need to know if she likes me or if it's just my imagination. I don't want to make a mistake."
Tashi laughed, a warm, knowing sound. "Auron, let me tell you. A girl calling you to a cafe to talk about childhood memories, followed by a specific request for Valentine's Day? That's already a 50% confirmation. But if you want to be 100% sure, look for the clues during the day."
"What clues?"
"Does she behave unusually?" Tashi explained. "Does she steer the conversation away from work or the guild? If you're shopping, does she suggest buying things couples use? If she insists on romantic places, like a specific movie or a view of the sunset... that is the heart speaking, not the guild leader."
"But she might just be being friendly," Luke argued through Auron.
"Maybe," Tashi said, a mysterious smile crossing his face. "But the 'Magic of the Day' usually forces the conclusion. You'll know by the time the sun sets."
"What is the magic of the day?" Auron asked, frustrated.
"You'll find out soon enough," Tashi said, refusing to say more.
Auron flew back toward Japan, his mind a whirlwind of possibilities.
"What are you feeling now, Luke?" Auru asked.
"It feels like a storm," Luke replied. "If I handle it right, it's harmless. If I mess it up, I lose everyone I care about."
He landed in his room and De-Unified. He sat at his desk and closed his eyes, summoning his illusion
A perfect replica of Luke appeared in the center of the room. It breathed, it blinked, and it carried a fragment of Luke's own consciousness.
"You know why I've made you," Luke said to his double.
"Of course," the illusionary Luke replied. "You want me to handle Zoya side while you handle the other."
"Wait," Auru interrupted. "I assumed the real Luke would go with Zoya as Auronand the illusion would be go with Marin. Is that right?"
"Actually, no," the illusion said, mirroring Luke's own smirk.
"Correct," the real Luke said. "The situation with Zoya is a matter of the hero. But the situation with Marin... that's my life. I need to be there in person to see the clues Tashi talked about. I need to know truth myself. My illusion will go with Zoya as Auron. He is me, so he knows how to behave like to him. But I will deal with Marin."
The illusion nodded. "I'm ready."
Luke looked at his double, then out the window at the city. Two days left. After February 14th, Luke's life would either remain normal—or it would take a turn from which there was no going back.
"Let's hope the magic is on our side," Luke whispered.
