My eyes crawl over his posture… his expression.
…The way his fingers tap once against the counter before going still again.
He's composed. But not relaxed.
It seems like he's eagerly waiting, and for the first time, I realise something.
He wants this.
Not in the way a man casually asks a woman out.
…But like there's something behind it. Something I'm not seeing yet.
My chest tightens slightly as my instinct flares.
Why?
Why does this feel like more than just a date?
I could say no.
I've said twice already.
I can smile, brush it off, and tell him I'm busy.
But that would mean walking away from the chance to find out whatever is really going on here.
If I shut him out completely, I lose my chance to understand what kind of game this dashing man may be trying to rope me into. And I don't like not knowing things.
I don't like unanswered questions. Especially when my instincts are whispering that something isn't right.
So instead of declining, I smile.
