Chapter 2 - Cannibalism

The moonlight shone on the two girls, if anyone saw them, one would immediately notice the contrasting differences in their dressing styles.

The red-eyed girl wore a long red hooded jacket that reached her knees, the hem of the jacket was torn and worn, underneath her jacket she was wearing a simple button up white shirt that was a little too big for her body.

She wore slim-fit cargo pants, high calf combat boots with full laces and thick soles.

Next to her, the girl with diamond blue eyes was wearing a simple blue short-sleeved shirt with a fitting cut on her body, and as her outer she was wearing a white denim overall dress.

She wore white socks higher than her ankles and wore white sneakers.

They both have blonde hair; the only difference is its length, and people would most likely think they are twins—But no, we are not twins and I am sure the girl next to me now would not want to be my twin.

"Lowell..." I was reading the file containing the personal details of the man we were currently looking for, and on that sheet were listed the many criminal acts he had committed: "Rape, robbery, cannibalism... Huh, people certainly do have different ways of spending their time, don't they?"

"Mother said he's targeting the triplets to test whether they all taste the same or not" Alice informed me as she walked beside me. "And now he's already eaten two out of the three"

"I'm baffled as to why he's gone so far as to eat people? There are loads of great restaurants in London."

"Some people just have rubbish taste."

"By the way, what are the triplets' names?" I asked, and at that Alice immediately smiled with amusement as she recalled the names.

"You won't believe it, but the names of the two he's already eaten are Haydon and Timber."

I tilted my head in curiosity—what was so surprising about those names? But when we stopped in front of a brick house, I could see the nameplate on the front of the house: 'Bricky'.

"I'd bet his dad's name is Rocky," I said before walking up to the front door.

"And his mum's name is Wooly," Alice continued with a little laugh as she followed me from behind; my hand reached out towards the door before I knocked on the wooden door.

But there was no answer.

I knocked harder.

Still no answer.

I immediately knocked as hard as I could and was immediately elbowed by Alice to stop. "At least say something, you idiot!" she said, and at that very moment I heard footsteps from inside.

When the door finally opened, a portly man in dirty clothes appeared; he looked us up and down, trying to remember if he recognised us.

"Who are you two?" he asked, and straight away we both took out our fake police IDs and showed them to him.

"We're from the police; there's something we'd like to ask you—may we come in?" Alice asked, trying to make her tone sound like a real police officer.

"You're police?" He examined us again. "You don't look like ones" he said, looking doubtful, and we could tell from the way his hand moved that he was about to close the door.

"Ever heard of going undercover?" Alice replied immediately with a perfectly plausible explanation. "We're posing as ordinary citizens so as not to be spotted by a criminal we're looking for."

"So, please, could you let us in to ask a few questions?" I added, and after a moment Bricky nodded and stepped back to let us in.

"Thank you," said Alice before stepping inside, and I followed behind her. As soon as I entered the house, a foul smell immediately stung my nose.

Was it Bricky who hadn't had a shower? I don't know, but judging by his appearance, it could well be.

"We'd like to ask—have you seen anyone suspicious hanging about around here?" Alice turned to face Bricky.

Hearing this, Bricky shook his head. "No, I haven't seen anyone suspicious hanging around… What's going on, anyway?" he asked.

"Let me ask you again: have you ever seen a criminal hanging around?" Alice pressed, and this seemed to start to rile Bricky.

"I've already told you! I've never seen any criminals or cannibals round here!" he snapped, and at that moment he seemed to realise he'd said something he shouldn't have.

"I never mentioned cannibals, did I?" A sly smile played on Alice's face as she saw her plan succeed. "I wonder why you'd assume such a thing."

Alice stepped aside to make way for me. I sprinted forward and charged at him, immediately knocking him to the floor as he screamed. The muzzle of my shotgun was already aimed straight at his head. "Alice, there's a foul smell coming from the fridge—check it out quickly."

Alice nodded, whilst Bricky started to sweat, his face clearly showing that he was terrified. "Y-You lot… I knew you weren't police!"

"We've no intention of working there either" I replied, and I could see his hands trembling—I already had a hunch as to what was inside that fridge.
