Alice opened the fridge door and, upon seeing what was inside, her eyes widened in shock. "Lowell," she said; "that's the cannibalistic criminal we've been searching for."
"Explain," I asked, and he glanced around as if trying to find a good excuse.
"I want revenge for what he did to my brother!" he explained, but his mannerisms gave him away—his body language was far too easy to read.
"Tell us the truth and we'll spare your life," said Alice before closing the fridge, unable to bear the stench.
BANG!
I fired a shot an inch from his ear, scaring him too much to speak; after a moment, he finally replied. "…I was curious… After seeing Lowell devour my brother with such relish, I became curious about what a human would taste like, so I ate him" he replied, his voice trembling.
I turned to Alice. The criminal we'd been looking for was dead, yet now another cannibal stood before us. "What should we do, Alice?" I asked, making her pause to think for a moment.
Without warning, a hand slammed into my stomach, sending me flying backwards; I was caught off guard because the person in front of me wasn't a Fable. "Red!" Alice screamed, and instantly a blue light appeared, forming a rectangle.
Before it finally faded, a card materialised, bearing the letter 'A' in the centre and Alice's name in the top right and bottom left corners.
The card was flung against the door and stuck there; roots emerged from it, preventing the door from opening. "What on earth?!" he shouted, grabbed an umbrella and smashed the window.
I thought that with roots like that, he'd find it hard to get out, but to my surprise, he managed to get out through the window in a flash. Alice walked closer. "Blue! Where are those amazing reflexes you're always boasting about?!" she asked, seeing me standing on the floor.
"My name's Red, and I wasn't paying attention" I replied; I wouldn't accept being blamed all by myself. "And why didn't you close the window as well?" Hearing that, Alice was at a loss for words.
"I panicked, all right?!" As we were still arguing, we heard the sound of a car engine outside; Alice and I exchanged glances before running towards the exit.
Alice threw another card, and from it a flame burst forth, devouring the roots and the wooden door before finally clearing a path for us to escape.
Once outside, we could no longer see the car. "Judging by the sound of the car just now, it went straight on and turned right," I said before sprinting off as fast as I could, leaving Alice standing there in silence for a moment.
"That's an unbelievable sense of hearing," Alice muttered, producing two cards out of thin air and sticking them to her shoes; she then took flight and followed me from behind.
I spotted the car, but there was no way my speed could match that of a motor vehicle—until I felt something touch my red jacket from behind. I turned and saw one of Alice's cards stuck there.
Without warning, the card released a powerful gust of wind that pushed me forwards; it was too strong, and I couldn't stop myself.
In front of me was a road signpost, and my legs tried as hard as they could to resist the force of the wind until—CRASH—my body crashed into the post and Alice, who was flying above, tried not to laugh, "Sorry—I should have turned the wind down a notch."
After that, I ended up flying through the air with Alice. "Come on, stop sulking—I've already apologised, haven't I...? Oh!" The girl seemed to have just had a brilliant idea.
I didn't respond at all; the sound of a car beneath us immediately caught Alice's attention, and she realised it was Bricky's car, which was still moving. "Just in time!" She flew towards the car, producing two cards and directing them at the buildings far ahead of the car, to the left and right.
From the cards on the left and right, roots emerged, converging in the centre before beginning to merge and form a wall of roots. Bricky tried desperately to brake his car, but—CRASH—it had already crashed into the roots, which immediately brought the car to a halt, and smoke began to billow from it.
As our feet touched the ground, we saw Bricky, terrified inside the car—BANG—I fired at the car door. "Get out with your hands in the air, you pig" I ordered, and he nodded slowly before doing as I'd told him.
"I'm sorry—" Before he could finish speaking, a bullet whizzed past and shattered his skull into pieces.
"No mercy? I hadn't even asked for any yet," said Alice. From her expression, she seemed slightly surprised; the body fell onto the road without putting up a fight.
"That's payback for making me hurt," I said; he'd punched me in the stomach, and he'd also been the reason I'd crashed into that signpost.
"But because you crashed into that sign, I've got an idea of how to stop him—thank you, Orange."
"My name is Red."
